  • Damage dealing.

I hit 50, and have been pursuing my AF to write my own guide, and have been caught up in genkai one so I havn't had a lot of time to party. But I have just finished genkai and AF2, and had an unsuccesful run in Eldieme for the coffer key so I thought I try and find an EXP pt.

So, while I'm playing the waiting game FFXI has turned out to be, I start to ask people why they choose the people in their PTs, why they chose them over another class, and occasionally why they didn't choose me if I'm agitated enough from the seeking.

I find a lot of parties choose dark knights because they are the 'strongest' melee, which is true to a certain extent. I also find they choose samurais because they have meditate, but they don't really know why medidate is useful.

So what do the people here look for when searching for the damage dealing melee classes? If you see a war/nin and a drk/war, who do you choose? Does race come into play, do you know these people?

I put a lot of effort into what I can offer to a party, except Utsusemi:Ichi which I feel is totally useless and can be read about on other threads. At level 50, I have dual viking axes, full I.M. gear, swordbelt +1, and various other gear. Would you not invite me with that equipment? What if I were Drk/Nin (not even sure dark knights can use viking axes but play along)?

I'm just really curious right now, and I'm leveling thief for the hell of it. Thanks for reading.

I wouldn't. Full I.M. gear is for tanking. If you want to deal DD you should have.

    Head: valk mask, emp. hairpin.
    Body: Brigandine, R.K.+1
Hands: RSE (for some races), Enkelados's Brc., R.K. Mufflers
    Legs: R.S. Breeches, Replublican Subligar
Feet: w/e, there's nothing good until AF.

Try upgrading your gear and you'll get invites.

(note: I'm currently "set" with a NIN, so when making a party I try to go for Him, Me, DD, RDM/BRD, RDM/SMN/WHM, BLM)

I generally only like DRKs, MNKs, and RNGs. I don't like partying with THFs because our skillchain options are horrible, I've had horrible experiences with DRGs, and the NIN hardly builds up TP for a SAM to show it's true potential. And if a BST is seeking, I'll pick him up before any other class. That's only happened twice, and god damn they are the damage dealers.

Also, what I look for depends on what we're fighting.

If we're fighting bones, I'll pick up a MNK and nothing else.

If we're fighting flies, I'll pick up a RNG.

If it isn't one of those, then it depends on skillchain.

If we need a fusion, I'll pick up a MNK or a RNG (I'd go for a MNK first, since for a RNG to do fusion we would need to do Flaming Arrow > Raging Axe).

If we need distortion or fragmentation, I'll pick up a DRK or a RNG.

If none of those are on, then I go in order of SAM > THF > DRG.

Also search comment. If you don't have one, I normally won't invite you. If it's poorly made, I normally won't invite you. Having "@whatever {I want experience points} JP/EN PT OK" is not a search comment. Have your @, your stat bonuses, if you have expensive spells/equipmnt, ect. ect.

What I look for most importantly is for people I've partied with and were awesome. Player's Skill is everything in this game. Leave a good impression and you'll get many invites.

(In bold so people realize that it is the most important thing)

I'll leave the quoted bit until last.

BST is a very nice DD.

BST has the same axe rating as war so subbing nin and dual axes is same as war. you lose a little in terms of stats, however bst can wear the majority of the heavy armours and nice eq.

Added to that, to make up for the lack of zerk/warcry/agressor they can pull a monster the SAME level as them and basically add a member to the party.

BST is awesome and people should really recognise this.

      Now to the quoted bit.

When I play whm ( ok I dont exp it anymore but still ) my search comment would be

      @xxxx
      japanese/english ok
      please invite me

I dont think anyone would expect me to get this level without erase and equipment isnt that important ( my equipment is nice I just dont see the point of e-penis waving when it isnt that important for my job ).

      On summoner I actively say

      @xxxx
      jp/eng ok
      fenrir+austere+pluto+apollo.

but i still think your being a bit OTT, I express that because people rarely look for summoners unless there is nothing else so I end up making all my own parties, maybe 2-3 invites in my whole summoner career.

@xxx jp/en and some basic info is fine.

While I realize IM is "tank" gear, squabbling over a few points of dex in the pieces won't help too much other than just clutter the inventory.
You'd do better getting some RK gauntlets, a sniper and maybe a valk mask in that order to swap in. The braclets ZQM listed are really nice too (You already have mad acc+ from the vikings, so you shouldn't get hurt too much from the -agi/dex). I'm not sure if you have a greataxe or not, but they're quite helpful for the breaks (just in "case" you happen to be bardless )

As for search comments, as long as you have something useful, you should be fine. @xp, Homepoint, what Gate crystals you have, SJ's etc. I usually don't care too much about these, but I typically ask the lazy bastages with no @xp or search comment last.

Skillchain compatability means a lot on invites too. There is nothing worse than having a full party of people who can't make a good skillchain.

Edit: Well, except having a party of morons, but thats not really at question here..

Don't ask me. Some pts would rather have a PLD & NIN set up rather than invite me ?

          Screw them.

I'm lvling my fishing while I wait for an invite, anyhow. As for DD, when I create a PT, I usually just take whatever melee dmg is available, I'm not too picky. Then again, I spend a lot of time LFG, so I know what it's like to LFG for hours at a time. Maybe I'll lvl a mage job soon so I can be a stuck up little prick, cause people invite me anyhow.

Mages are different from DD though. :p

There are always several DD on. At my current level, the DD to mage ration is about 10:1, 15:1 if you only count people seeking. You need to put yourself apart from the rest.

            EDIT:

While I realize IM is "tank" gear, squabbling over a few points of dex in the pieces won't help too much other than just clutter the inventory.
The +3 DEX is worth it IMO. I currently have +9 DEX total, +13 if I switch to dex rings from str rings, and I crit very often...I'd say 1/7 hits.

EDIT: n/m, pting with fenrir atm. So that's actually +16 DEX.

If you really care what gear someone has before inviting them, just ask them in a tell. Having a search comment up in the first place shows a lot more initiative to find a party than most on Midgardsormr these days. I was in a party once were someone laughed at something I had in my search comment and another guy in the party had no idea what a search comment was... I personally have quite the epenis but I'd never flaunt my gear by putting it up in my search comment... just putting up something worthless in my bazaar. >.>

Yea, I always have a search comment up. Recently I included my SAT scores to see if that would help at all. No luck...

Although I'd like to be seen as a damage dealer, I'm still getting invites asking me to tank. The IM gear really helps out here. It's been a while since I've got an invite to be a DD or trick fodder.

Unfortunately I don't think warriors are taken very seriously because of the early game experiences with them.

While I don't care if someone just has the basics in their search comment, I do like when utilize it to show why you should pick them over others, it sort of about professionalism. As a melee/damage dealer I would think people would want to 'flaunt' their gear because they have SO MUCH competition when it comes to getting parties, nothing wrong with that

To add to this, I tried to PT as my WHM the other day and was working with the PLD through /tell on how we should set up the party. We wanted to invite this DRK but he had no search comment up, just his invite. I told the PLD I was a little wary about inviting him since he didn't even have a search comment at all, but we ended up inviting him anyway.

Everyone met up, we teleported to Altep and got to Kuftal. After about 30 minutes of fighting the DRK just said "I have to go eat dinner" didn't respond to "Could you wait until we find a replcement please?" and just logged.

When I pick melees for my party, I think about the SC possibilities. I always try to pick someone who can start Distortion (as a thief I like to finish those). I don't really look at WAR and think "That WAR probably does crap damage compared to that DRK". I pick the one who I can SC with (in this case DRK because of Vorpal Scythe). When fighting goblins I also like to invite a DRK for Stun.
