What melee job should I pursue as Tarutaru?

  • What melee job should I pursue as Tarutaru?

    I'm bored, so naturally only destructive, disturbing things come to mind.

    I want to do a melee job with my Taru. Currently, the choices are...

    Warrior- I enjoyed Warrior when I played it as a hume, but it would involve me to level Ninja for a sub for around 30-ish. I hate leveling ninja ><

    Dark Knight- A good job, however, my low HP seems to be more of an issue here. While I could cover up my poor HP with good gear as a Warrior, I will be pulling hate away from the main tank and taking damage. Also, the low strength kinda seems to be an issue, but hey, the INT will help land my ABSORB spells...

    Dragoon- Yeah yeah, "They're gimped!" "DRK>DRG!!!" Whatever. The job just appeals to me, and for some reason, imagining a tarutaru leap fifty feet in the air, it makes me giggle.

    Samurai- See lots of samurai tarus around, seems to be popular. Just gotta unlock the job.

    Finally, Thief- Probably the best option, but the class just doesn't interest me. Maybe it picks up a lot, but I was always bored to tears when doing it.

    These are the options I'm looking into. Also, when dealing with equipment, a question comes to mind. Should I focus on +DEX gear, or +STR? I'll still pick up +Accuracy gear, but I'd imagine that trying to boost our pitiful strength would be an ideal way to go...

      Warrior: You can be a WAR/MNK or WAR/THF to be the backup tank/damage dealer, though with WAR/NIN, you will be perfect for any situation, since people will have WAR tank if neither PLD nor NIN are avaliable.

      Dark Knight: Then you learn not to steal hate? MNK at later lvl do just as much damage as DRK, and we managed not stealing hate and doing the max damage at the same time. And I am sure the good DRK out there has their trick in doing max damage with no hate.

      Dragoon: play it as you wish. Show people that called you sucker your skill, and they will shut up before they can say another word.

      Samurai: Samurai doesn't earn as much hate as DRK, MNK or RNG, since it's damage is about the same as a WAR. SAM doesn't spam skills(only 1 skill to spam, namely Meditate), so they earn little hate, from what I see. May be that's why taru players choose it? Or they just like a heavy armored taru?

      Thief: If it's boring, don't do it? Get it to 37 for sub or whatnot then drop it for better jobs?

      Go for the one you are most interested, since you don't seem like you mind the party waiting, so just do whatever you want with the melee. I can only give you my thoughts on the jobs after what you said, I won't just say "PLAY THIS".

      By the way, taru PLD is also good... at a cost

      As for equips, go for a balance of either, if you think you are doing low damage, then take some accuracy out and add STR, and vice versa. That's how I played my mnk anyway.

        Do you have a mage job already as a Taru?

        I would recommend DRK/RDM.
        I personaly believe that DRK have an awesome power in the form of absorb spells. Make full use of it and you can become an awesome enfeebler + dark magic user!

        DRK has A- in Dark Magic and C in enfeebling magic (same lvl as a white mage). With your INT and MP, you can realy rock the party's damage output!!

        I just worry about ppl not seeing the truth of being able to make more damage by increasing their output rather than being U3ER damage as DRK/THF... "DRK/BLM sucks!"

        You just have to remember that you are going for 80% of your damage dealing when you sub the RDM. You are going to increase everybody else Damage to make up (and make up more) for the -20% you might be missing...

        BTW, just so you know how much MP you will be having:

        Taru DRK/RDM lvl 59:
        HP MP STR DEX VIT AGI INT MND CHR
        833 475 56 56 52 55 68 40 42

        Hume RDM/BLM lvl 59:
        HP MP STR DEX VIT AGI INT MND CHR
        893 445 50 53 47 50 59 55 52

        Close HP, more MP and INT than a MAGE!! (no equip of couse)

        BTW:
        With the DRK you get the following enfeeble spells:
        Poison I
        Bind
        Poisonga I
        Sleep
        Poison II
        Sleep II

        With the /RDM, you add to them:
        Dia I
        Paralyze
        Blind
        Slow
        Diaga I
        Silence
        Gravity
        Dia II
        Dispel

        Not bad!
        Modnar

        Melee:
        43 Monk; 25 Warrior; 20 Theif; 10 Dragoon; 11 Dark Knight; 7 Ninja.

        Mage:
        55 Red Mage; 32 Black Mage; 27 White Mage.

          I guess that means that SAMs deal more damage then DRK since I (WAR) outdamage most DRKs.

                any job you find fun!

                I'm levelling war for SJ and my nin is 52 already, taru tanking is great fun. I always used steamed crab ( on war - on nin I use meat cheifka ) though, fun being hit less than the galkan pld :-]
                55% Skill
                35% Equipment
                10% Race

                White Mage - 75 - Completed
                Ninja - 75 - Completed
                Summoner - 75 - Completed

                  I have. However, spending hours upon hours farming, it just doesn't seem attractive to me. I rather be able to farm for say a week, then be able to afford the gear, and continue on. With ranger, I'll have to constantly farm for gil.

                  Of course. Got Bard to 60, White Mage to 38, Black Mage to 28, Red Mage to 17, and Summoner to 14. That's why I want to pursue a melee job. So sick of the same ol' same ol'.

                  Well, at the same time, it's probably the best job to get for farming purposes, along with BST.

                  Before ya'll ask, I am leveling BST (Currently 10), but I want to get another job that I can play that can join a group.
