I also thought about going rng but then i thought about the money, and ya know..well I asked a rng and he said around his lvl (52 i think it was) its about 25k on arrows per level, what I suggest doing is level crafting skills and make your own ammo, that could save you some gil, oh and btw, yes a lot of people say drg are gimped actually its quite not true throw in thf as a subjob til 50 and you're fine, and I had to help my drk friend get his AF weapon and that NM with the very powerful aoe didnt even knock my wyvern out one hit even tho he put me from 727 to 372 HP, then he did it again and we both died:mad: , anyways I also wanted to lvl drg cuz its a very fun job in my opinion and I have a liking for some expensive jobs (rng, nin) and as im lvling drg im thinking what I would like to switch to once my drg career is over, but I've also considered sam, which would save me some money not just cuz of the unconstant tools and ammo buying but I already have a sniper ring(sadly only one) and I could save that and be more prepared at later sam lvls, also as i progress im finding new money making ideas, I just started BCNM 40's and theyre great, I made about 80k in two of them which is decent money I know not a great load but ive saved up seals since I was lvl one, btw if you're gonna attempt one, get a brd with marys hornthat ISNT galka or mithra and PM me if you want a strat for it

you said a mouth full rog lol
anyways...rng isnt as expensive as people make it to be...all you need is away to make around 30k a day to pay for arrows...wich can be done with about 3 hours in pashow...then get thf to like 25 and rng to 50 rng/thf 50 is one of the best NM hunters so youll be making lots atlater lvls...but yes you will almost always be broke...
DRG is a good job untill you have to fight skeles...but thats not till like 60 and CoP will have diffrent places DRGs can go (we hope)...
if you have the money go RNG because youll always be top damager (other then like blm and a drk/war with berserk and souleater on...)
and i was rogs DRK friend...and yeah the wyvern lived longer then i did...possibly cuz that damn yagudo sleeped me when i had 40 hp left...

Basically this is decision about whether to be the most overpowered job in the game or the most underpowered job in the game? I'll let you guess which is which.
P.S. One of the game's biggest misconceptions is that Ranger is horribly expensive to maintain. More expensive than every other job? Yeah. Is it doable if you play smart? Hell yeah.Just do it.

RNG is THE most exepsensive class to play IMO if you're a min max'er. No other job can come close IMO. Best bow imo costs 3-5MIL depending on servers. Later on when you switch to guns (should you choose as most have the ability to use both) bullets become expensive as are the best arrows.
DRG is only as expensive as the rest of the melee classes. All jobs are expensive to play if you want to be the best you can be, however RNG is by far more expensive.
I do not recommend playing a RNG if making 30k per leveling session seems difficult for you. I was spending at least 50k per leveling session on my RNG and he's only in his 30's.----------------------------------------
For a PvE game, there aren't enough monster skins.

Dragoon is one of the cheaper jobs in the game unless you go absolutely to the max.
But most people cannot do this, so for 99% of dragoons out there, you can safely say that it's a fairly inexpensive job.
If you are one of the lucky few who can afford to max out, then you're looking to shell 5-8 million gil on Scorpion Harness and a similar amount for Peacock Charm.
Lances are not expensive, and they are consumables. A Ranger consumes ammo, a dragoon consumes nothing.Pounce (RETIRED) Mithra Bastok R.7 Titan server

Good, then we agree that it's a function of the sub being overpowered in general and not the class.
Rng pays a heavy price in upkeep cost and defense (poor evasion, no defensive skills) for their abilities. By itself, the job is far from overpowering
