Should i be a dragoon or a ranger?

im having the hardest time deciding :dead: also im like 300 tnl from lvl 18 and i was wondering if i should make my sub job a WHM :spin:

I'd go with War/Drg, it will be a better choice, and a Whm will suck ass if u combine it with a Warrior type class (or at least you won't get many PT invites) mainly because the overall TP amount will be decreased due to the Warrior class.

But a Ranger is one of the most High-level damage dealas in the game. It could work well as a Tank with Drg.

um with war/drg is kinda pointless since you cant summon the dragon...

with War/whm you'll get invites (until 30 at least when you get your advanced) Most people like a tank who can help cure (aka paladin)

make you sub mnk. you gain hp and vitality. get mnk to 15 take war to 30. by this time you should have an idea of what job you want to do. ranger is very expensive. if you are always broke and always have average equipment dont even try ranger. dragoon is no where near as expensive.

Rangers in later levels are the lords of damage (riveled only by blm at my present level :p).

HOWEVER ranger is a pretty expensive job, only worth it if you have loads and loads of gil.

DRG are kind of cool... more or less... I don't like them much. I'd say if you can get gil, go ranger.

Yeah, if you have the gil, go ranger.

DRG is good, but have a hard a somewhat hard time getting into partys in later levels.

It's your choice either way.

that's funny... either you have very rich rangers, or you've never run a data parser to compare there damage to mine ^^

at 18 do WAR/MNK until 30. Then at 30 I think DRG/WAR will be good but RNG/WAR is good to. You can also try DRK or things like PLD.

From a cost perspective, both can get pretty pricey.

RNG is expensive of course, because arrows are not cheap. There is also the need to maintain both ranged weapons and a sword. RNG is also forced to keep AGI as high as possible, which often means either camping NM's or spending a lot of gil on equipment.

DRG is expensive in that lances are pretty much a must and, at least on Fenrir, their scarcity makes them expensive. Also, to remain effective, DRGs have to focus a lot on DEX at higher levels. Again, this means camping NM's or spending a lot at the AH.

As you can tell from my sig, I play DRG/WAR. This is an extremely fun combination to me. At my current level I am still doing tremendous damage and having a lot of fun.

If I wasn't playing DRG/WAR and I had the gil, I would be playing RNG/NIN. In fact, that will be a future project for me.

You might consider going DRG your first time through and then going to RNG later on. While you can play RNG whenever you want, I think you might enjoy it more when money is less of an issue.

Other than that, the actual gameplay of DRG and RNG is somewhat similar. The subjob you choose may change your role in battle, but with either of these as a main job, you are there to do damage and avoid generating hate (although as DRG/WAR I occasionally provoke to set up SATA for our tank and THF), if in slightly different ways. The only real difference, other than style is that you are more likely to be asked to pull as a RNG than as a DRG.

Please don't sub whm to war. You will only get a very small mp pool and you'll have to rest between battles to get back your mp.

uhh... Ranger? Don't even think about it unless you have a lvl 75 job and are in a HNM LS.

RNG levels pretty fast (everyone on my server wants RNG in their PT).

Though RNG is expensive, the RNG in my LS went straight to that job after hitting 30 as a basic job. We leveled our NIN SJs together (I went to 41NIN, he stopped at 38), and are now static PT with our mains (RNG and WAR). If you work hard, it wont be too hard to maintain the cost of being a RNG. He farmed rams through the first part of his RNG career(still does), after level 40, BCNMs became a good source of income(still is).

I bet this guy will end up being ranger cause all of you said it does so much damage. And then he's going to be one of those rangers at level 40 using level 1 arrows =P

It's a difficult choice in my opinion, Rangers are expensive and gain parties fast

Dragoons, as we alll know are gimped (well almost all expansion jobs were) and after the TP patch Square-Enix managed to kill a lot of the remaining love for Dragoons. This is just my opinion and what a few people have told me. I orignally wanted to go Dragoon but switched over to Dark Knight because Dragoons were too damn weak at higher levels. And your wyvern is extremely gimped. For God sakes it gets killed with simple AoEs and then you've basically lost 1/4 of your full power.

And please, please, please, don't sub WHM with WAR. Use THF if your a damage dealer (boosted DEX) or MNK if you want to be a tank. I've seen enough morons with WAR/WHM saying "IT"S A PALADIN". I even saw a person use WAR/BLM and flamed me when I asked him politely if he could change subjobs -_-'

This is just what I see....oh and I know someone's gonna say something about Dragoons trying to counter-state what I said so I'll say this now "I do not give a rats ass about your opinion don't bother trying to change mine" thanks.

I started Rng today and it is awsome man. I only got to lvl 5, but still i like it alot. I would definately recommend it. But then again its gonna cost alot of money. So if you can find a way to make good money and keep the money rolling in then u will be ok.
