  • I really hope they NEVER raise the level cap

Hear me out... I don't say this because of the argument of making certian classes obsolete but because of the gee-wiz factor of exping in parties. I mean at times exping can be fun... but there's no sense of adventure in it and FF has always been a series about adventure. They need to add new abilties, new spells, and ways to become stronger but please don't make us level more for it. I think that's what square soft has in mind with the new weapons that grant new wses and the quested wses among other things. I mean what you rather do, wage war against the wicked fire breathing dragon that lives atop the volcano to gain new powers and abilities or kill a million catterpillars for those same powers and abilties? The end result is the same, your character becomes more powerful. I think the level grinding being there IS neccesarry... it's like training, but enough set a cap, and say you're reached the point where you cannot become any more powerful through normal means. I think they should add scrolls that are ex(aka quested or dropped) for the mage classes and quests add/upgrade passive and active abilties, for example, upon completing a certain quest a level 75 thief would learn the ability mug or a PLD would earn another defense boost passive; thusly raising his abilties, having the same effect as a new level without the tedium. I belive this is what SE has in mind as they did say that the last cap would be the final cap.
...so we will step away from the mainstream to live like vagabonds and common dropouts... don't you want to hang out and waste your life with us? -Spike

I hope they level the cap to 80. This will allow mage to use Convert.

      personally I wish for the cap to be lvl 99...and btw we've already seen the lvl 81 armor for WAR/DRK/PLD in beta so best bet the expansion pack will raise the cap to 85-99 >.>;

IF they do in future raise the level cap, they would have to rebalance quite a lot of the skills/spells/abilities that the classes get around level 40 (convert being the most obvious, no mage would ever want anything except rdm sub ever again).

Although raising the level cap to 80 would still mean RDM was required in parties (refresh staying at 41), they would probably have to bump a lot of the 40 abilities up to 45 or even 50 so that the classes still remain at least partially 'unique'.

IMO it's pretty good as it is (basically past 60 it's all about gear rather than job abilities)

I think that was the admant vest which they changed the level on to the 70s...

Edit: oh yeh and I think 75 is kind of an ugly number but with the way they placed the spells abilities and weapons... 75 works nicely

I never really thought about that before...any type of mage being able to do convert. That would definately make red mage the most needed sub job at higher lvs. Never considered all these things, cause around lv30s to 40s alot of jobs do get important traits that make em what they are. Probably is best just to leave lv cap at 75 for that.

By the way, square-enix already confirmed I thought that they were not raising the lv cap for the expansion anyway. I never heard of a lv81 armor before...

Personally, I'd rather see them do something else:

Make a special area where you can level up to 99, but you don't get any new abilities or anything beyond 75 (just bragging rights and increased use of your subjob).

Outside this area, you'd see (for example):

Level 75(+18) White Mage / Level 37 Red Mage

Meanwhile, in this special area, the person would be a WHM93/RDM46 (and probably able to solo decently with a good hammer equipped :->). However, this special area would probably operate under some (if not all) of the same principles as Dynamis, aside from not having any sort of time limit (just being at <200TNL to 76 would probably be the condition for getting the quest to get in, and it'd probably end up involving everyone's favorite [ha. ha.], Maat) and having stuff at its high end that makes HNMs like Kirin look like a picnic.

The idea I have for this area is a rather deep-going subterranean tunnel... lv80-85 worms at the beginning, leading up to lv90 bombs and lv100+ weapons and elementals... maybe some new monster types as well, though... and a constant 2hp/3secs fire-elemental damage effect after the initial (worm-infested) areas just due to the heat. It'd make for some interesting possibilities... (It'd also probably suck just because people would be expecting to pick up cool stuff and not getting any new abilities...)

They will increase the level cap, the only problem is that we don't know when. Reason is because they would lose customers if they didn't. My guess is that will increase the level cap for Promathia or a little bit after. They won't release a new expansion and have no content for the high level players.

Who says raising the level cap is the only way to give high levels something to do? More areas, more monsters, and most importantly, more missions, definately tougher than Zilart. Those should keep the high levels busy for a while, and SE is sure to add a few new HNMs with these new areas.

I'd be looking forward to a HNM bunny in the future.

I hope the level cap goes up. Takes so long to get 75 atm, even harder for newcomers to reach the cap.

wish they would finish the ninja job first before doing anything else... as well as rebalance dragoon, sam, etc.
