PLD or NIN

in Nin pt's i can't get haste... i still grab hate anyway... i'm sure for RNG it's even worse... I mean i'm sure there are good nins, but you get a bad nin the pt's in trouble... Plds your good for all situations (especially xp'ing on bones) safety net... I mean even with a bad pld you can still xp...

You completly missed the point, the NINs i've pt'd with loose hate, if i get hasted.

PLD is not even competition against NIN when it come to tanking.

What about 74war/nin more damage than ninja , but without evasion takes a hit or two between blinks? But can start a light renkei

So far PLD 75 NIN 66 WAR37...

PLD are 2nd to none if you're fighting a HNM and want your BLMs & MNKs nuke their hardest. This is where PLD are in their zone.

NIN is definately more fun to EXP than PLD in my opinion... however I like having to do something constantly in PT. Counting shadows, placing enfeebles, MBing, provoking etc. I can hold hate well in an EXP PT without a THF, however I think if I were required to be main tank as NIN in a 30min~1hour Fafnir fight there would be a lot of dead Tarus. Maybe if you had an LS full of Summoners it would work... but then you'd have a lot of dead WHMs from all that Curagaing :X. However, my views of NIN in HNM are still only from the outside since i'm lvl 66, perhaps full Arhat's+1, Eris Earrings, and Mermaid Ring will even things out.

Well for exping I think a talented (and rich) shinobi>all. There is just something to be said when a tank produces zero downtime, enfeebles, and damage equal to DD melee. Yes, I have seen NIN outdamage many many people before 37 (haven't partied with them after). I mean I haven't even witnessed the apparent invincibilty of Utsu: Ni... I can only imagine...

And I say rich because a shuriken shinobi pwnz all. Even you bitch ass paladins who think you'll be invited with a mage attitude can't touch a good ninja when it comes to exping.

Malabmannop: You CAN hold hate as a ninja, but you can't hold it as much as a paladin, and this is a fact. This means yyour damagers will have to hold back more and the mob will take longer to kill.
As much as a skilled ninja can hold is ground for hate, a skilled paladin can allow damagers to go all out, killing the mob faster and reducing exping time. Moreover when a ninja looses hate he'll be slower in regaining it, and doesn't have any time gainer skills like cover. If damagers go all out there's NO WAY a ninja can hold hate. Guaranteed.
And please don't tell me about downtime, as soon as mana regaining abilities (bard and red mage with refresh) enter the game there's no downtime at all with paladin as well.

The way a ninja tanks intrigues me, i'm the type a person that loves a challenge, and will do anything to over come it, which is what i see most outstanding ninja do (natural for us martial artists, heh). I'm tempted to go back to ninja just to have that thrill.

I see the exellent, hate-holding, FFXI shinobi , as a force of nature when it comes to tanking, (and those ninja that try to reach that level, i give my props to you too). I can see that they are strong, and use their full potential in the art of Ninjutsu to accomplish thier tasks.

I want to see the "San" lvl ninjutsu come in to play. I'm thinkin then you guys would become immortal, but you also will suffer losing all ya gil too. I wanna see you guys show those PLD's up! lol

I know i sound like a fanboy, but hey, i always loved ninja, which is why i been studying Taijutsu in RL, and it also runs in my family.

I haven't played as either tank. In my personal experience, though, the fastest and best xp parties have all been with Nin tanks. Even with ballad and refresh I have seen plds slow a party down, even if just enough to prevent chain 5+'s. Or, Because of the need for the WHM to heal more, the whole party slows down. Plus, with a good NIN tank, you need less healers over all, which leaves more opportunities for DD to fill party slots.

I know i'm not expert, but that's just been my personal experience b/w the two.

after leveling the past 70 level's
i have come to the following conclusion,
1-36: Tank should be PLD > WAR
37-70: When fighting Bones, PLD (and i fight bones a lot)
Just about any other mob, i would choose a NIN but only if i knew they held a decent reputation as a NIN.
