PLD or NIN

2 Paladins + no white mage is good.

I was in a party that did that, and it was medium speed experience. Not great, but easy to pull off... The 2 Paladins take turns with the hate.

Expensive vs. not

NIN are really expensive, my friend leylis is playin one right now and he hates it cuz it costs 100,000 gil for 1 of his ninjitsu spells. That is hard to afford. The Paladin on the other hand, played by my friend Jahlie (*I think, He is a good friend of mine out of game, I dont know his exact FFXI char name) is playing a Pali and he seems to like it, he wouldnt play it if it was expensive. Believe me he played a RNG and he hated it cuz of the arrow cost. So I say PLD, but I havent played either.

This makes my head hurt.. PLD over ninja? i really try to be patient with this but pulease. This is absolutely sad.
I heard someone say that if u get linked that ur some how safer with a PLD tank?? WTF? how couldu even come up with this. The safest job to be around in ur pt is a smart BLM.

NIN costing money to tank. Why is this a big deal? shihei is 5k a stack... Any idiot could make 5k in about 30 minutes tops. I could make 5k in 10 minutes with newb crafting sheepwool omg.

Nin not being able to hold hate??? WHAT???!!? This depends on his equipment like a PLD does. PLD AF has +2 enmity on each piece of armor. NIN does not.. Wel... theres Arhats armor at Lv 63 that can give you a hella lot more enmity + gear than a PLD. With like +3 enmity each with the even +2 is enough with the regular armor. And another thing there are TIME LIMITS to PLDS hold hating abilities. THERE ARE NONE FOR NINJAS. IF THE NINJA IS WILLING TO SPEND THE MONEY HE CAN USE A ENMITY BUILDING ABILITY AT ANY TIME AT WILL. Need a trick attack to hold hate? well just sub thief and have any melee do it.

NIN TAKES ------Z E R O ----- damage most of the time. There are mobs that can kill a tank in --------- ONE HIT ------- PLDs MUST TAKE THE DAMAGE. How is there even a choice to which one is better? This should be no contest. How the freaking 'ijae'rpoijae'ir can you guys possibly come up wiht that PLD is better tank!! THERE IS NO ADVANTAGES. NONE. GOD. WHY AM I EVEN HERE EACH TIME I COME TO THIS FORUM U GUYS MAKE ME CRAZY WITH THIS IDIOCY.

Yes, there is a lot of misconception that nin tanks can't hold hate well. Just use mithkabob and plan ur ninjutsu well and the nin tank should build good amount of hate. Worked for me

But Nin tanks DO get hit unless the nin has pimped up equip and can dodge some hits. Even with Utsusemi II, sometimes the mob gets lucky and slams u with double attacks and kills all ur shadows instantly.　Remember, if Nin tanks DO get hit, they take a lot more dmg than PLD. If ur not lucky, ur shadow might run out when it readies it's powerful WS

Oh and if ur in a PT with a thf who knows how to do SA+TA well, the Nin will have almost no trouble holding hate

Personally I say PLD, why.... I am one. I'm a lvl 63 PLD on midgar and i can hold hate through ancient magic bursts a good 80% of the time, and if I do lose it, I peel it right back. Where PLD really shine are in BRD, RDM parties, we basically just keep healing ourselves with this never ending fountain of mp.

We are cheap so u know we usually have the Best gear possible for our lvl, and we won't be nerfing ourselves just becuase we can't afford powders. Also at this lvl I've seen many Sleep spells fail, and I can more than easily tank 2 monsters efficently till the spell is a success, I've done it on more occassions than I would like too count.

So If your looking for Reliable and able to get you you out of that shitty pullers blunders, then go PLD.

Not bashing NIN's just stating the better qualities of PLD tank.

sit down and shut the fuck up you ignorant piece of shit. unless your healers totally suck or your bard is a fucking moron (like you) PLD can be just as good of a tank. I've had chain7 parties with Paladin easily. They are both good tanks and if the rest of your party has some decent level of intelligence both can work great in a party. Unless you're an ignorant biased prick like yourself. and just for the record, you suck. and my opinion is that your opinion sucks.

From my experiences thus far, both Paladin and Ninja have their places, and both can do an excellent job tanking. But it tends to come down to one thing that makes me favor Paladin over Ninja...

Are you ready for the unexpected?

I've seen our Paladin haul our keesters out of some situations that I thought we would *never* get out of alive, simply because he has the abilities to pull hate off of people who have made mistakes, and has the defense and abilities to take the punishment if something Bad Happens. Extra mob spawns nearby and links immediately? Unexpected three in a row AoE attack, and our White Mage has to use their two hour? Just fighting 'non optimal' mobs? Overall, ninja works great, but it requires everyone to play a perfect game, and nothing can go wrong, especially aganist the nastier mobs. Your ninja hits a lag spike, mistimes casting Utsusemi, and then you see the mob tear him apart, or the White Mage has to go into overdrive to save the ninja and gets aggro, and the Ninja can't get it off him.

While the last isn't as much of a problem when you have SATA at your command, as an overall view of all the job classes, Paladin gives you the most wiggle room to work with. A Paladin has a lot of gimmicks to handle the unexpected and assist their tanking exploits. The Ninja JUST has Utsusemi to tank with, and if something happens to that defense, its usually good bye party.
