PLD or NIN

From what I understand, if mobs hit you they release some of the hate built on you. Ninjas may not build as much hate but they keep it well it enough because they aren't getting hit.

Those things are like, the length of an Elvaans torso. Which means looooooooong.

What a scary concept, these huge, gigantic piles of intimidating muscle with bigger than usual Ninjato blades, but not being slow and hulking but being hidden in shadows striking you with Elvaan length Katana's. Frightening. oo

I still think Hume female Ninja's are the best looking Ninja's bar none in my opinion. They fight with so much class! They fit the image of Ninja's the most for me personally. Deadly and cunning, but classy.

Still...no other race does the Blade Ten flip like Taru's do.

Must this debate always rage? As a paladin, when lvling my War I always keep an open mind to "The Tank" whoever it may be. I was once in a pty as war/pal, I know not a great combo but hey, who brought in a Nin to blinky. We had no thief. She called when blink had dropped and I voked it off her. When she had recast she voked and pulled it back. We rocked for hours and tons of XP this way. all depends on the situation, and how well the group works together. As a Pal I say even Blink tanks have a place. But never underestimate me hahaha.

Please tell me how this works.....ive tried it many times and it always sucks, if i try to keep hate besides just vokeing, the nin cant get hate back, if i only voke, the WHM or DD steal hate........ive heard of this working before but i cant seem to get it to

That is actually how a ninja pre-37 tanks. It works best with a 2 ninjas in the party.

Had another Ninja tank experience. PT was NIN WAR/NIN MNK/WAR RNG/WAR BRD WHM. Location was Gustav Tunnel, renkei was Sidewinder >> Rampage.

The Ninja was 59, everyone else was 58. He was JP, quite well-equipped, did the debuffing... he couldn't hold hate for more than a few seconds at a time.

Our Galka monk did have on top-notch equip (Scorp Harness, Spartans, etc.), and I'm pretty decently equipped (+40 ACC, +30 ATK). RNG was /WAR, which I don't particularly care for because of safety reasons. Aggro shifted between the three of us the majority of the time.

I guess that was an exceptional circumstance, but I dunno, we had had a PLD tank in that same party, and she did a much better job (and had Cover for the times when the RNG would hit a 1300 damage Sidewinder, or when I'd hit an 800 Rampage).

A good ninja tank is about one thing - no downtime. The WHM isn't curing so they will have plenty of mp and won't draw aggro. No, the ranger can't do sidewinder > barrage 2 rounds into the fight, but that doesn't mean you can't kill the mob just as quickly. You just finish the mob with your strong attacks. Even if the RNG draws aggro for a round or two before the mob dies and doesn't have utsusemi up, who cares, the whm will have plenty of mp to spare and the next mob will be coming right up.

As a ninja, I get annoyed if we aren't getting chain 4 or 5. When playing as a bard with a more conventional tank, I was happy with chain 3. This isn't to say a PLD party can't kill non-stop, it's just not nearly as easy or frequent. In this game, you get what you pay for. The ninja job is a great example of that.

Errr... I can probably count on the fingers of one hand how many parties I've been in beyond 38 that haven't gotten chain 4s pretty consistently. Most of those parties had PLD or even WAR tanks.

Why are ninjas always harping about PLD downtime? In a group with good DDs where the PLD is competent and the healers know how much healing to do, it's just not an issue.

Also, there's a counter-phenomenon. Let's call it "ninja downtime". It's where the ninja isn't getting hit, but anyone dealing significant amounts of damage is

Cant some one get a lvl 60 nin and lvl 60 pld put them in the same pt and make them fight over hate to see who wins

Currently PLD 69, and I firmly believe that in xp PTs nin tank with the right setup can definatly out xp PTs with PLD tank and the right setup. To me xping is just a mean to get to endgame, I dont play this game to "xp", I xp to get to sky and or be able to tank The big Boys ( Kirrin, fafnir, etc ), so I really wont care that much about who tanks aslong as I am getting atleast 3-4k/hour.


Moreover some HNMs need nins to tank, others nin cant tank, so I really think that the NIN vs PLD thing makes sense only in the XPing phase, once u hit 75 it all doesnt really matter as long as you have a nin and a pld to tank in different situations.

I ptd at 56 with Nin (I am Pld). Getting hate is no problem (Flash, Provoke), the thing is about utsusemi. Was Good Ninja, hate holding was good (ecxept when MB with Freeze, then I had to make Cover). Yup you heard right, we decided to let Ninja tank and let me serve as healer/backup tank (4k exp per hour btw!)
