Are boys and girls thier own gender in FFXI

just to add to the #'s. my LS of 6, is 4 guys, 2 girls. My wife plays as a Mithra, and my friends wife plays as elvaan female. The rest of us are, hume male, elvaan male, and 2 galka

I often mistake a female taru for a male taru LOL! They both look similar short.

I'm a girl and I play as girl. *shrug* But does it really matter? You can hit on someone in-game and then find out they are butt ugly irl. In fact, that happens in 90% of all cases.

I'm a guy, and I play as a male taru.

I can see why guys would choose mithra, if they are into jobs mithra excel, since there's no male option.

Same thing with girls choosing galka for the mega str, vit and hp, since no female option (well, galka's are asexual, but lets face it they're pretty "male" in appearance).

I'm not sure why a guy would pick female elvaan over male elvaan (or vice versa), same with the humes, but that's THEIR biznezz, not mine.

my main char. is a female taru (i'm female irl) but i made a galka alt, because i wanted something the complete opposite of my main usually in MMO's i tend to have 2 characters of opposite types so i can play whatever suits my mood.

I don`t know about u guys/girls but...

doesn`t it feel awkward when guys play as hume/female, or elvaan/female when they are guys in RL? I mean if they play as mithra I can understand cause they don`t have male mithras. But for some reason it never feels strange seeing girls play as male characters. Hell, almost all my girl players in my FL is playing as guy characters and it never bothered me

It`s hard distinguishing the gender if ur talking to a JP person cause almost everyone uses Keigo (formal) speach. (I always use romanji+keigo when I`m in a JP PT)

I hate being ignored or given replies like "I don`t speak English" when I send them tells in Romannjii. Sad thing is, JP players will always think ur a NA players who can speak JP very well

Nooooope! because some people will always feel uncomfortable with who they are and their sexuality.

I expect to see more threads .. mainly from people under 18 ...not a personal attack. I find people under a certain age that plays online games have issues with playing something they arent in Real life.

I play a female toon for alo tof reasons. great for me to RP , im secure with myself as a person and man, I like the way Triel looks.
I play mage type characters mainly and somewhere in my mind. When I think magic I think woman.

I dont play for stats. I like to watch Triel on screen , shes pleasing to look at even though she is pixels.
I dont get hit on very much except by hiloki , a friend from yokohama. But he likes the way triel looks also >< .
If someone asks if im a guy i say yes. They say "oh" and continue to talk to me .. Unless they are uncomfortable with the revelation.
It doesnt bother me in the least. Yes I do Role play..

I agree with tazirai on this point. Personally, I will pick whatever character/race I want my character in game to me. It doesn't matter to me what I am in real life, I am role playing a character in a game. Personally I don't like it when chat in a party goes to asking a/s/l and stuff like that, it just takes me away from the fantasy world of the game. When I play console RPGs (by myself), I like it because I can totally envision my character in that world. To me I almost wish more people RP'ed in parties and stuff instead of saying things like "welp, time to grab another beer." After all, it is a Role-Playing Game. If it wasnt you would just see a bunch of Humes running around and there wouldn't be any fun at all to the game.

Just to give an example of the point I'm trying to make. You can say "does it seem awkward to play as a female even though you are male?" This is just as silly as saying "does it seem awkward to play an Elvaan even though you are human?" No. This is just a game.
