Symbols in Equipment Page

I'm rather new at the game. Level 10 Red Mage. My roomates and I have been playing for a few days now and we are wondering what are the different coloured "coin like" things under the words ATTACK and DEFENSE in the equipment page. We believe it has something to do with Water, Fire, Dark, ect.. but we aren't sure what they all are and what it all means. Does anyone have an idea or a website that we can go to to find out what this all means.

Yes, these are elemental resistances.

If I recall correctly, the colors are:
White - Light
Black - Dark
Green - Wind
Yellow - Earth
Purple - Thunder
Red - Fire
Dark Blue - Water
Light Blue - Ice

Doing this from memory (I'm at work, so can't exactly go check), but I'm pretty sure of all of them except for the last two.
