Go for galka.

Galka have good STR (not as good as Elvaan) but better DEX then Elvaan which is very important for THF.

hume and Taru are not bad either.

But how funny is it when a Galka uses "Sneak Attack" I mean lol, it is kind of funny to think of a Galka sneaking up behind something.

Taru Taru make the second best theifs, then Hume is the 3rd best one. Galka make one of the wrost thf's you dont' have to worry about STR as a thf... you have to worry about DEX and AGI.

The problem when asking which race makes the best Thief is that most forget that AGI is just as importent as DEX for them.

I have seen galka theifs work.......but I guess you are right that taru would make a better one.

But still I think a galka using something called "Sneak Attack" is too good to pass up.

Plus playing by stats is not a very fun way to play.

Looking at your sig I see that you did not let the fact that you are a taru prevent you from going melee jobs.....so I think picking what you like and is most fun for you is the most important.

and I did not know that the agility of the THF factored into trick attack. For some reason I was told that the agi of the trick partner was what effected that. And looking at the damage between a Taru, Hume, and Galka thf using trick attack...I did not notice that much of a difference.

meh...but I am sure you guys know what you are talking about so I trust you. But....really I think the poster should choose what he likes best and not base it on numbers.

Galka (low on AGI)
Elvaan (low on DEX)

Don't know which is the worst between Galka or Elvaan but I know they both sucky.

Even though Elvaans make suck thief I like how they hold dagger =P

Mithra>Taru>Hume>Galka>Elvaan. And as a slight addition to someone's previous post, elvaan suck because of low agility more so than dex. Every race except mithra has nearly the same base dexterity.

According to this japanese calculator, this 2nd best THF is the Galka. Weird, eh?

Level 70 THF/NIN with dam 15 weapon vs IT mob with high defense.

Expected Sneak + Trick damages (translation said "unexpected and sudden", i assume that's sneak & trick):
Mithra: 281
Hume: 249
Taru: 241
Galka: 253
Elvaan: 245

I can only guess that sneak & trick multiply your base damage, so having a low base damage (like taru) still hurts you. And the reality is that Galka have the same DEX as hume & taru (75 @ level 70).

Hmm, as far as i understood, agi affects trick attack damage. However, when using the calculator in the link, modifying agility doesnt change the SA+TA damage at all. Bad calculator or bad theory? Each point in strength seems to add 1 dmg, and each point in dex seems to multiply damage, and then agi does nothing.

no race is best... only the player controlling race is best.

i guarantee there is tons of elvaan thieves better then mithra... tons of taru pallys better then humes,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc.

also it doesn't matter becayse one person doesn't determine the outcome of a battle... this is a teamsport you see in the nfl the new england patriots winning superbowls yet they dont have terrell owens,brett favre,rickey williams and on and on.. because they know how to execute and play their roles and because they play as a team.

but whatever... not like people will listen they will pick mithras and be miserable knowing they want to be elvaan or whatever.

You can ask Squenix if you can get the server version of the software so you can play all alone and pay for the server yourself.
