Bottom line galka sucks at anything involing mana. Dont use the bs statement that you can equip mp items. If you HAVE to equip those items just to get vaguely in the league of a taru or hume you are already at a disadvantage while they can use those item slots for something like boosts for int and mind. I'm sorry but you galkan fanboys need to stop dreaming of a good galkan mage.

Wow...I just wanna say that I'm so glad I've never met anyone quite like you on my server, and I sincerely hope that I never do /em knocks on wood. For the record, I'm a Galkan mage, always striving to be the best mage I can be, and everyone I know in-game has been so wonderful and supportive of me...almost makes me forget about all the elitist loudmouths out there spewing their useless know-it-all negativity -- it really saps the fun out of the game for everybody.

Just because you're a Taru does not automatically make you a l33+ mage. Just because you're a Galka does not automatically make you a l33+ warrior. Just because you're a Mithra does not automatically make you a l33+ thief, and so on.

I cannot stress this enough...player skill counts for almost all of your character's effectiveness. There are Galkan and Elvaan mages out there whom I'd gladly PT with over many Taru mages I've run across, and one particular Taru WAR whom I'd prefer to be the main DD for my PT over anyone else.

I'm a Galkan mage...I play it for the challenge, and it's a blast...and by playing a Galkan mage, I've proved to myself that Galkas CAN be great mages. That's the difference between players like me and the many elitists out there...we have actual experience playing as the "unconventional" race/job combos...they don't.

Just kidding. Galka are a very good choice, just as long as you don't plan on doing any maging. You can even be a mage, but you will need the best equip to not be gimped.

Wow... Reading these posts almost makes me sorry that I am Galkan. Almost.

First off... I am a 62WAR/31NIN. I know I know... I'm not some ultra HL super-omega, all-knowing player with a huge ego who thinks they know all there is about FFXI... But, I do play as a Galka and I have a couple friends who also play as Galkas.

Okay... I believe 100% that the abilities of the player and the equipment you wear make all the difference in the world. On my server we've got Galkas aplenty. Obviously I don't know each and every one of them. But, all the Galka players I personally associate with that play Melee jobs are some of the best DDs and Tanks I can even think of. A pld who doesn't lose hate to anything, a mnk who deals such sickening blows that i laugh every time i see him in HNM fights, and oh yeah I forgot I also know a lvl 67 rng who deals damage in comparrison to lvl 75s of other races (i am not kidding, seen it against Charybdis)...

Now, I am not saying any of this because I think Galka are superior at melee jobs than other races. But, looking at damage dealt during my exp fights the only jobs (other than rng and blm) regardless of race that out DD me are Drk and the occasional Sam. But then, I'm decked out in sickening gear, too. I've got all the trimmings at my level.

So... Saying that Galka are useless is totally absurd. Surely it is hard on us to make good at a mage job... But, given the right gear, I'm sure it's all up to the person behind the character.

To think that there are servers out there that don't have any Galka running around... That's just sad. Variety is the spice of life... What party is complete without a noble Galka within it's ranks?

I think galkan are great to melee. They are very versatile when they melee and can-I think-make enough hate to keep it.

I do pick on many galkans on Fairy, but I love all the galkans I party with. They've always been quite well at getting hate from me as I was a white Mage, Black Mage, and at times a Dragoon, including the galkan thieves I partied with at one point or another (And especially galkan paladins).

I won't say I would use the Galkan race because I like hume as it is, but I do think Elvaan as a mule-race (no offense to any you elvaans). But I would recommend Galka to the lovers of pure-blooded melee.

I'm planning on trying Galka or Elvaan as my third character since I'm wanting to see how they are like. I stopped playing for a few months so am wanting to experience something new after I raise some real life money to play again

I dislike the discrimination too. For people who play 3+ races the race/nation discrimination is really unintelligent. I think if everyone had a character of each race they wouldn't be so harsh.

There isn't anything wrong with galkas. I wouldn't say that elvaan are better at melee. If i remember correctly galkas have more dex and agi than elvaan when they start off. Str also lol.

They just lack in the mp department. But you can make up for that. Seen many great galka mages. You just have to be a better player, b/c galkas don't have as much mp to work with.

The same thing as any other odd race and job combo. You have to work harder at doing your job well more than someone that has chosen the race that best suits the job they want to be.

I myself don't care as playing elvaan anymore, got tired of being tall and lanky, and looking like the elvaan next to me b/c everyone and his brother chooses the same hair as me.

I changed over to mithra and haven't looked back yet. I totally enjoy mithra. Playing war is really fun, you're more versatile than the typical war. I usually get in a pt with a nin so he/she can blink tank, while I pull and voke the mob to give the nin enough time to do their ninjitsu.

Anyhoo, don't let what some people say make you choose a different job. Most of the time poeple say things about a job, they don't know anyhting about the race and have misconceived notions about them.

Being ignorant and listening to what everyone tells you isn't a good thing. Do some research and talk to people that have actual experience.

Btw, skill is very important in any job or race that you choose. Just b/c you are a cookie cutter war or whatever and have uber equipment doesn't mean that you won't be killed within minutes. Yes equipment does matter to a certain extent. Don't go to Valkurm as a lvl 11 war with the only protection of a shield, scale mail, and hume custom boots. Which happened to me a few days ago, couldn't believe it, didn't even have all his beginning armor on. and he wasn't that good.

but yeah....lol.
