Paladin? I actualy have not played it, but I would imagine it to be true. A good fighter, will not go down easily, can heal himself... what else is needed?
But also I "hear" dragoon/wm. Melee+dragon+ws+healing from WS+plain healing/
ANYWAY BIG BEN THINK LIKE THIS ITS LIKE HEY GUYS WHY BE RACIST?? RACISM HURTS EVERYBODY ON INSIDE MAKE BIG BEN SADFACE ITS ALL ABOUT SKILLS CUZ WHEN BIG BEN HAD TO WORK ON FARM AS CHILD BEN HAD TO MAKE FARMING PT MADE OF ASIAN MAN BLACK MAN(THATS ME) MEXICAN MAN CHECHOSLOVAKIAN MAN AND IT WAS BEST FARMING PT EVER CAUSE ALL MEN HAD HQ SHOVELS AND TRACTORS AND KNOW HOW TO PLAY SO FARMING WAS QUITE GOOD
Drg/Whm if you chose your mobs correctly.
Rdm/(any) well simply good at soloing, takes time though!
Pld/(almost any) hard to pin down, can cure himself.
Mnk/whm good solo against skeletons
Smn/whm post 70 I heard they are very good.
Thats what I can think on top of my head reading forums.
early on (levels 1-20 or so) there isn't very much difference in the solo strength of most classes, the only exception is probably Blm which is very hard to solo at most any level
beyond that, even up until level 40 or so, the solo strengths and weaknesses of most classes don't become apparent (still excluding Bst here) I've soloed with numerous jobs in the level 20s with great success
the big difference comes in the higher levels, and the only jobs that can really solo in high levels would be Rdm and Nin in my experience, though I have yet to see a Smn really go at it with an even match in high levels
of course, Rdm has already been mentioned, but one key ability that hasn't been mentioned yet is the spell Dispel, allowing to undo your enemies power ups such as Defense Up, Evasion Up, or Attack Up
without some way to Dispel, battles become much more difficult because in higher levels enemies will use their abilities to boost their stats several times each fight (fights take longer the higher level you go)
by carefully choosing enemies that don't need to be Dispelled, you'll usually end up fighting enemies with powerful damage abilities instead, rabbits for example do not need to be Dispelled but can do large amounts of damage, making them impractical to solo
for Rdm, the best solo subjobs are generally War, Drk, Blm, and Whm, probably in that order, Nin subjob would only shine in level 74+ really, when you have access to Utsusemi:Ni, and is otherwise inferior to the others listed
if you have questions about specific Rdm subjobs feel free to ask
Nin as a main job on the other hand, if rich enough, can also solo in the high levels, this is not only time consuming like all high level soloing but also very, very expensive
most strategies for high level Nin soloing involves the use of many non-reusable items to enfeeble and damage your opponent
this means you would need to use your full library of Ninjutsu along with ludicrously expensive throwing items to help deal damage, this solo strength is more of a novelty ability rather than something practical, it can, however, work
as for Drg/(mage job) it is indeed pretty powerful for solo play, but the benefits start to decline after level 30 or so
Pld/(anything) is an insanely powerful solo job early on, but their damage output simply isn't high enough to solo much in higher levels
I should note that a Rdm's damage output is lower than a Pld's, but Rdm can stay alive quite a bit longer
When I did rank 5 someone had a lvl 75 war/rdm. Now granted exp was no longer a factor for him but the guy could cast phalanx on himself and then do rampage. *drool*
Pretty good for solo gil farming I'd say.
36 War/15 Mnk/22 Thf/62 Pld/Bst 75/Nin 33/Whm 36/Blm 19/Cor 7
Full Af X2 • Rank 8 • Alchemy 65
Being a ninja and personally soloing tote robber crabs, weapons, lizards, I can can safely say that besides BST a NIN can solo better than any other job. Reason being I killed 6 jibunn-tote (E-VT) robber crabs with only taking 1 hit per fight. Ill admit it was expensive....BUT IT WAS FUN^^. I only went there to get a kuftal coffer key and when i killed my first mom giving me 200 exp I freaked. I dont advise it but if your a ninja and you wanna test your skill.....try it sometimes.
BTW i was subbing warrior^^
Smithing 68
Weaving 60
Leather 30
Woodworking 73
Alchemy 50
Amazing what one will do to level Blacksmith in this game -.-
As its already been stated, red mages are very potent for soloing.
If you're fighting mobs that are 10+ levels lower than you, Phalanx can often reduce the damage to 10 to less. You can haste yourself, stoneskin yourself (which stacks with Phalanx- do you know how many hits you will absorb when they are 10 damage or less?), use en- spells, blaze/ice/shock spikes, protects, shells, cures, refresh, and the list goes on. That's only discussing buffs, I don't even need to talk about debuffs. As far as contending for damage, I'm doing great with my weapon + 15 dmg from En- Spells + 11 from Blaze Spikes. I can easily deal more than 60 damage per exchange and 200+ with a TP attack (which I get pretty fast with haste). If I want to use some mp to actually nuke, I pull out Fire II for an easy 200+ damage.
Don't forget that, if needed, you can also use Convert, which is nearly a full heal + full mp if used effeciently.
NOTE: This is really only for levels 50+ and if you keep up on your eq/spells, obviously.
If you still think that other classes rival rdm, I'm sure you have a great reason... but keep this in mind: (as far as I know) rdm is the only class to solo the avatars =P
Attack the enemy
When HP is below half use a magic like poison or something (Wyvern does Healing Breath III)
attack more, penta, attack, attack, attack, penta and so on
use more magics now and then and when you are running out of MP use Aspir. (Another Healing Breath III there)
Repeat..
im all about the Ranger for best solo. its just fun to run around and shoot things and its pretty easy. Also note that you can solo worms really easy if you know how to. ^^
such as getting ranger/whm = worm pwnage!
Props to my peeps over at fullalchemist.com for making this!
