  • What damage dealer/Tanker would you Pick first?

I have been wondering, when forming a new party to level, what job would you pick first for damager and tanker?

    Damagers (30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-70)
    Blm
    Rng
    Drk
    Drg
    Sam
    Mnk

    Tankers
    Pld
    Nin
    War

This is assuming that everyone has updated equipments and spells and everyone knows how to play their job well. I know different jobs are wanted a different levels so I broke it down to different level ranges. I know that from 1-30 there shouldn't be much different.

Blackmage and Ranger are basically always on top of dmg chart, just lack of them compared to other classes so I wont count them. It depends on what weaponskill they got recently, what you are fighting, what you currently have to skillchain on.

Rangers and monks dont quite mix well, but Rangers and Thfs/Drks are amazing together. So you pick the classes that complement each other.

    Tanks -
Pld always for me since Iam ranger.. Nin cant hold the hate I generate perfectly. Ninjas really shine after 37 when they can swap utu .. Plds arent truely amazing till 50 when they get defender from War.

I'd go with BLM and RNG as the my first choices as damage dealer myself, and I'd be looking for a BLM first.

Even though RNG is uber at dealing damage, *if they have good gears*. They kinda suck when they let their equipments slide for a few levels, and with the search function, you have no way of telling what he's got on him. I have seen a badly equiped ranger miss 3 shots in a row, and miss his weapon skills, and I heard they could miss their 2hr too. It's just sad to watch.

As for melee damagers, I have no real perference, although I'd like to have at least one of them to have a war sub to emergency support tank.

Ditto on the PLD. Even with a WAR tank I'd have to hold back quite a bit to not get aggro. With a Paladin, I could put in that extra *oomph* if I needed to. Even if things go terribly wrong, I atleast know I am well covered.

Thanks your the input. The reason I am asking this is mainly to see what the oppinion of every about damagers and tankers at different levels ranges.

For Damagers it seems like most people besides the 2 that post here prefer blm and rng hands down over the rest.

But between drk, mnk, drg, and sam; which one would you pick next for a pt member? My personally choices will be something like this:

        drk for levels 30-39
drg or sam 40-59 (I think between levels 40-59, dragoon and samuria has a advantage over drk because of the sam's ability to ws frequently and the dragon's penta thrust and high jump.)

at 60+ I would choose drk or mnk over drg and sam.

I think monk is awesome vs crabs & undead, and drk is more flexible as a pt member for the fact that he can magic burst, put links to sleep, and dish out decent damage at 60+.

As for tankers. I prefer Ninja over paladin hands down unless I am hunting mobs what has double attack or more or uses a lot of AOE attacks.

My opinion is that a good ninja can hold aggro as well or even better then a paladin. I know that for a fact, because I blink tank as a ninja to and I hardly ever loose aggro. One of the trick to holding aggro as a ninja is that you have to use every thing at your disposal. For example, Shrikens (Many ninjas don't use it or even bother to level up their throwing ability because it cost so much for the blink powders), provoke every 30 sec instead of waiting for the mob to beline a mage or ranger, usually after the second provoke a blm or rng can just unload everything they have without worrying much about hate, and lastly they have to use other ninjutsus like resistance lowering ones. Basically, use everything you have as a ninja to keep hate.

For the Ninja part, you still need a THF to keep hate, and seriously, it's impossible to pull hate from a Sidewinder > Barrage > Sidewinder (unless it's a missing streak). The only cure for this is Cover, which I believe, has the same cooldown as Barrage, so everytime the RNG goes crazy, the PLD will be able to Cover him, which a NIN and a WAR can't. Most experience players don't wait for mob to turn before they provoke, they'd voke every 30 seconds.
          WHM 75 | BLM 37 | RDM 63 | WAR 75 | MNK 44 | NIN 37 | RNG 20
          Windurst Rank 10 | Bastok Rank 10 | Sandoria Rank 3
No more permanent stats on "In areas outside own nation's control" items.
          Combat Caster's Boomberang +1 | Master Caster's Bracelets
          Sandoria is gay.

I'm a warrior and I kill stuff! RAWR!

That's the reason is why I wouldn't go looking for a blm/rng first, nice to have quick kills but I can't stand extra downtime because of extra mp regen from high level spells/rush-healing the non-tanks

I would go for a nin-tank first then look for a sam, then another drg or maybe a drk. Sam because they could keep tp-wise, jinpu-penta-thrust at least 2-3 times a fight x.x A drk probably won't regularly pull hate and if a drg manages to overdo it they'll still have jumps ready. Even if one managed to pull hate them the rdm/whm would have enough mp to heal them until the nin can take hate and still have plenty left for another pull right after.

            blink

Would probably rethink things 60+ though
