  • Tarutaru Melee

Ok, when the NA release comes out, I've decided that I am going to be a Tarutaru melee/tank type character. So what if I'm not going to be quite as good as my Elvaan or Galka equivalent. I know my stats are gonna suck, but who cares when you are a Tarutaru Tank of DOOM! I will be one of the few...the proud...the Tarutaru Melees.

So here is where it gets tricky. Which melee class is the best suited for a Tarutaru?

When you think Tarutaru, you think high MP. I should probably use this to my advantage by being a melee that uses spells, like a Paladin or a Dark Knight. I know I'm not going to have very high HP, so a Paladin might not be the best choice. I'm thinking Dark Knight might be the melee/tank class that is best suited for a Tarutaru, even though a Paladin with high MP for cures and extra hate seems very viable.

What do you think the best melee/tank class for a Tarutaru character is?

A Taru can theoretically do any melee job so lon as they aren't getting hit. I personally recomend Samurai as the melee job of choice but whichever you choose is fine. Don't think about your stats being shit either, I suck as much as the next Dark Knight does but thats not because i'm a Taru it's just the job isn't the best ever. The best advice I can give is to keep your equipment as up-to-date as possible, pretty vital for a Taru. Don't be afraid to stop and make money for your EQ.

I've decided that I'm gonna be a Thief. Apparently they do some wicked damage. I was thinking maybe Ranger too, but it sounds like it costs too much to play that job.

What job will do the most damage overall? Are Black Mages and Rangers at the top of the list?

P.S. Russta, your signature picture is awesome. You and Cobbi look rad in that armor!

It's so rad that someone over at Gamersquare (Singapoor site) has taken it upon himself to steal it! Hey, at least our name is on it so we're always famous

Beowulf was an uber Taru PLD-- I know the extra MP mustve helped with taunt (Cure III = Taunt and a half). I know he kept his armour pretty up to date too.. remember seeing him run around with the IM Helm (chibi Gundam ehehe).

Beowulf was a very effective taru paladin simply because he had tons of mp and could hold aggro casting cure III on himself. The downside was that he also died very frequently because of his low hp. I think it all really comes down to whether you like to live on the edge. As a taru with a melee job, you will certainly be doing so! Here are some pros and cons I can think of:

              Pros for Taru Melee:
-Ideal for paladin and dark knight jobs because of their high mp.
-Good magic resistance and decent agility.
-Can hold aggro well, although needs constant attention from whm or healer.

              Cons:
-Low hp will result in frequent deaths.
-Monsters' special attacks will probably kill you in one hit.
-Strength and vitality (attack, def) aren't as decent.

In the long run, you are probably better choosing a different race for melee. Although I still think it's pretty cool to see a taru in heavy armor. When you see one, you know they've worked hard to get where they are! Hope that helps.

Ok, I'm still trying to decide between Tarutaru Monk and Tarutaru Thief. Which one is more useful at a high level?

Of course, I guess I could just level them both up.

Just say NO to cookie cutter characters.

                    o.o Beo ur famous.. >.>

pfff not as famous as kuma? -_-

Anyways... Tarus can do pretty good as a dmg dealer or even a tank (beowulf)

A taru's problem is low life and not the best Str/dex
With adequate equipment it can be fixed to a certain degree.

After Beta and knowing the life of a whm, I plan on being a DRK taru (after lvling whm to a certain point.. ahem 40..maybe42 @_@)

Taru's in drk AF are just too cool. Maybe I can be just as popular as Beo.. :/
                    Full Cursed= O
                    Full Str Gear= O
                    Apocalypse= ; ;

                    DRK - /war /thf /nin /sam /whm
1-year break.. everything so cheap O_O

Since when do Taru's have bad dex? They have the same dex as Humes and Galkas, maybe your thinking of Elvaans.

I don't mean to step on any toes, but I wouldn't go so far as to consider a PLD "very effective" if he dies a lot. The point of being an effective tank is to serve as the protector of the party -- mainly absorbing damage that would have otherwise been delt to the more delicate mages.

A PLD can't very well protect his teammates if he has a knack for keeling over.

But like I said, I'm only speaking in terms of practicality and mean no offense to Beowulf. Kudos to him for taking up the great challenge of building a Taru-Taru tank.

I partied with Beo once when he was paladin. I noticed the other group right in front of us with a galka PLD was chaining 2-4 times. Our group on the other hand, struggled to get a Experience chain one. Taru PLD, definitely unpractical.
