  • Exercise in futility..?

Okay, so after much deliberation, I had finally figured out how I was going to handle my main jobs for my first character.. I plan to start as a Monk, get to 18 to open up sub-jobs (it's 18, right? Still kind've new to this), switch to Thief/Monk, get to 30, and then switch to Thief/Ninja.

I shared this with a chat I was in, and they said it sounded like a good deal. Then one asked me what race I would be, and said I'd probably be a Hume.. to which a few of them scoffed. They said I'd suck as a Thief/Ninja if I weren't a Mithra.

Problem is, I didn't want this character to be female. I'd already had a nice little backstory spelled out for him in my head, and it just felt wrong to suddenly switch his gender.

So, I guess what I'm asking is, will my Hume thief/ninja ever be worthwhile to a party? I love being helpful to friends and potential friends, so the last thing I want is for people to be getting mad at me and dropping me for the next Mithra that comes along.

Will I have anything extra that will balance my low speed with the Mithra? Will my extra strength (combined with the dual wield, of course) put me on a level playing field?

Sorry for the long (and, to most of you, probably redundant) post. You guys must see stuff like this all the time.. so, if you decide to help or not, thanks anyways!

Less Dexterity and Agility, more Strength, Vitality, Mind, and Charisma(of course Charisma's unimportant to you). Some people would prefer a Mithra, but I don't mind the stat swap. Until I have 15 allies as a norm(which will be NEVER), I'm not going to descriminate anyone.
    Chocobos smell like crap!

If you're going thief, go mithra. Seriously. The more DEX you have the more damage your sneak/decieveing combo will do, and thats the only reason you'll get invited into parties. None of the other stats matter. STR doesnt matter cause you only do your main damage when sneaking/using weapon skill. VIT doesnt matter cause you're a thief, and a good thief never gets attacked in a party. So yeah, go mithra if you want to be a really kick ass thief, and hume if you want a so-so thief.

Yeesh, that sucks. I wouldn't mind being Mithra if I could be a male, but come on.. Why did they have to make it that the only way to be the best at a certain job, you have to be a specific gender. I could see race, but gender?

Heh, wish there was a way to sneak into their HQ and force them into adding an alternative.

don't let your spirits go down m8, look.. what race do you want to be? decide on that.. you got your class down anyhows, seems your personality is a thief so you'll enjoy the class whichever race you pick

don't be bothered by powergamers who will kill themselves just to get 1 stat point higher, just be certain to *KNOW* your class' abilities, your own characters' skills and utilize it to its utmost and you'll be fine

I'm a GALKA thief of all combinations.. and i can tell you pretty much no one comes close to me, not even a mithra

my dearest friend and closest "rival" was a mithra thief and she alone was my main competition on the come-up, she quit recently but i can tell you that forgetting skill-wise in playing the class

her character couldn't keep up with mine.. i had more hp, more str, etc etc.. she may have had higher dex/agi but our sneak/trick/vipers were doing pretty much the same range..

it got to a point where i was 2 levels below her and did not yet have trick attack.. that she would sneak/trick behind ME instead of the tanks.. simply because i had so much hp and evaded so many attacks it got to a point where it was more efficient (besides our tanks tend to fight in front of the monster *shakes fist* and she didn't know of the side technique yet)

look.. bottom line is that whichever race you choose (god help you though if you're a taru thief).. just know your limits, know your character abilities and excel at it

Don't let too much negative energy from other people bring you down. See it's easier to tear people down than to help them up. I mean shoot.. otherwise you'd never see tarutaru melee'rs or any other odd combo succeed if they were so unplayable

Good luck to you and happy adventuring

Sorry Seulgaist, I am not offending you.

but I just disagree on this and hope you don't hate me ^^'

I am a lv61 mithra thf/nin, and I don't think race is that serious to determine you are a good thf or not.

If I was a pt leader, I would prefer a galka, elvaan or human thf who knows how to do yokodama as often as possible and always has it ready for renkei, knows how to pull to maximize exp rate without putting pt in risk and stuffs like that... rather than a mithra thf who doesnt know how to do yokodama, can use fuidama once a fight, can't pull,... at all

Just go for what you like, human thfs are great.. mithra just make things a liltle bit more beautiful.

Heh, thanks, fellas. I was feeling a little down, but after hearing from you, I feel a lot better about my choice to be a Hume.

It's great to know that once I get this game, I'll be sharing it with people like you all! Guess all that's left now is to figure out the rest of the stuff I don't know about...

So.. uh.. if you've got any tips, be sure to send me a li'l ol' message

                Thanks again!

I plan to play Hume THF/NIN, no back story or anything, just want to be a guy. Though I have thought of playing Mithra because of more DEX and AGI, but I decided Hume. I might pick mithra on an impulse when I create my character, who knows, but I still plan Hume.

BTW, most THF tips are in THF forum

I think you misunderstood what I said Jeeb.

I meant it as mithra being the best race for the job combination. You still need the skills and knowledge to play that job, but that wasnt the question at hand. The question was which race would be more suitable for thief, mithra or hume. And in that case, it would be mithra.

However, you can still be a shitty mithra thief if you dont know how to do your job.
