  • Races and Weapons?

I've played a good amount, not a great amount, but a good amount, and I've noticed certain people just seem to be stronger then others and its been bugging me.

A friend of mine in the beta was a taru taru monk, and we PT'd together with an elvaan monk of the same level. He totally blew away the elvaan monk doing 5-10 more damage then him, and he had just basic equips for his level.

I'm an elvaan warrior with a polearm, and I've noticed that I do more damage then an aquantance in another PT of the same level with a polearm. I was doing a little more damage, but my criticals were around 40-50 which is a huge amount for level 8.

Could there be better weapons for some races then others?

Race itself doesn't affect Weapon performance but job does.

Try and read my post a little slower.

Obviously when a Taru monk is ousting an Elvaan Monk who BOTH started in Sandoria theres something else going on.

Weapon damage is based a lot on skill level. The reason why the Taru monk was doing more damage than the Elvaan was because the Taru probably had a higher weapon skill in grapples than the Elvaan. The same goes for your scenario with the spear -- your spear level was most likely higher than your friend's spear level. That's one of the reasons why raising skill is important and also the reason why some people form skill leveling parties.

But its got a cap right?

My levels go up as normal as any other person's levels. None of us actually try and level our skills more then usual.

Uh, how would we do that anyways?

Yes, every skill has a cap which is determined by your level and job, but just because there's a cap doesn't necessarily mean you've capped it (you can tell if it's capped or not if the skill is blue in your menu). If your friend just started using a spear and hasn't leveled it at all, then the damage difference will be very obvious when compared to someone who has used a spear for a long time and capped it.

My intrest lies in teh fact that the Taru monk and the Elvaan monk both the same level, both using the h2h the same amount of time, with a huge atack difference.

IT BOGGLES WHATS LEFT OF MY MIND!

check out the +stats equipment and the weapon being used. everything from strength, skill and weapon all affect the over all damage. like tha tarutaru, he probably have some +strength rings.

They gave you an answer. Only other thing is that Taru is getting a lot of criticals, the Taru's would be higher because he/she has higher DEX than Elvaan's do.

I want to know how skill up PTs work too, if anyone can exaplain. Is it just going out and attacking a lot?

Lunatic, did you ask the Taru monk and the Elvaan monk what their weapon skill in grapples was and then compared it? If they were both wearing starting equipment and both had the same grapple skill then I'd say something was up, but if you didn't ask them then it's fairly safe to assume that the Taru's grapple skill was higher than the Elvaan's.

Anyway, if it still really bothers you then you can always blame Lady Luck and Princess Probability. The Taru doing more damage could have simply been chance variation.

Nameless, skill up PTs are basically parties where you get a group of people and kill monsters whose level is equal or lower than everybody else's (the level of the monster you fight depends mostly on how many people are in the PT). You equip the weapon you want to skill level and fight with it. Also, skill leveling is often done when you go do things in large alliances such as rare item hunting, key hunting, missions, quests, so on.
