  • Help me to decide and understand

I am really looking forward to getting this game when it comes out, but I'm having trouble deciding on what job and subjob to take on. I know for a fact that I want to WHM and help out anyone I PT with, but I'm debating over the following job/subjob options:

    BRD/WHM and WHM/BLM

I'm also debating on being Elvaan or Taru Taru. I know Taru Taru is best for magic in terms of MP, but that other classes can trade off less MP for more DEF.

I'm sure this argument has been done to death, but I'd like to hear various opinions from those who have played the game firsthand along with those who have been following things longer than I have.

    1) What are the advantages/disadvantages of the above job/subjob choices and how needed are they in PTs?

    2) What are the advantages/disadvantages of the above job/subjobs considering race?

    3) What kinds of weapons and items are associated with the above job/subjobs? (Pictures if possible)

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and respond ^_^

I was told that this site was the best for FFXI information and help. I'd greatly appreciate some advice and seasoned knowledge on this matter. I appologize for bumping my topic.

If you pick Bard as your Main Job then you get to use a musical instrament and you would have alot more songs to play in battle ... you wont be able to do that if Bard is your subjob

I would think that white Mages are need more in parties than Bards but Bards are pretty usefull in party's also and they get alot of invites

      2) What are the advantages/disadvantages of the above job/subjobs considering race?

Like you said before Elvaan have more defense but I would stick with the Taru Taru if you would really like to help out people and still have mp to spare

      3) What kinds of weapons and items are associated with the above job/subjobs? (Pictures if possible

Go to ScreenShot's Vault Picture Request and ask them for what ever type of picture want to see and more than likely someone will show you some pics

BRD/WHM: This combo is very useful to parties because your songs can do a lot for the party. You can regen both HP and MP for the entire party to help the flow of battle, allowing you to chain mobs. Chaining will significantly increase the exp you gain from fights. When paired yp with a RDM in your party, you'll be very useful because 2 Ballads(a song) plus refresh(MP regen spell) can really rack up those MP points. Your WHM sub will serve as a backup mostly, you'll really need to work with other mages. Party invites will be plentiful aswell.

WHM/BLM: You'll be very sought job combo for your healing capabilites, aswell as buffs and other useful spells. WHMs can function as cab services for hunts, teleporting parties to places close to popular hunting grounds. You will eventually gain the all important BLM spell escape which you can use to teleport back to your home point when you're lost ot have completed a hunt for the day.

BRD/WHM(As Elvaan): Elvaans are a race of high strength and vitality. It's natural for them to take hits better than a Tarutaru. In the event that one of your songs attracts hate, you'll be able to handle the situation better than a Tarutaru. Your songs use no MP, so in reality all races can be an efficient BRD because of this. However, you'll be a less effective backup healer because you'll have less MP for WHM spells being an Elvaan. It's ok though because your main focus is singing and playing your instrument, plus you can regen HP with songs anyway(though cures are more effective).

BRD/WHM(As Tarutaru): Tarutarus will have more MP, so therefore more WHM cures can be performed. This comes at a cost though, or more of a double edged sword per say. You can heal more, but in the event that you heal too many times and attract hate, you'll be in deep trouble. Being a BRD means being weak, and being a Tarutaru means being even weaker. You'll just have to play carefully and try not to aggro the mob. You'll be standing back with all the mages anyway.

WHM/BLM: You get to use 1h staffs, 2h staffs, maces/hammers as your weapon. In lower levels you'll be using your hammer a lot, but later on the MP boosts from staffs will be more beneficial since you'll no longer face a mob straight up like you used to. Robes will mainly be your vestment. AF clothing is a good way to see what you'll look like later on. The screebshot vault has many pictures, do a search for "White Mage AF" or "WHM AF."

BRD/WHM: You'll obviously be carrying an instrument. Other than that, your clothing will be light robes and stylished hats.

        My opinion

First of all be whatever race you like, but still keep in mind that race can make a big difference.

BRD is an advanced class, therefore you have to do a quest to get it. Since you can't get it right away, you'll have to be level 30 in any job before you can obtain it. So...

        - Level WHM to lvl9
        - Level BLM to lvl9
        - Continue WHM to lvl18
        - Complete subjob quest at lvl18 to become WHM/BLM (18/9)
        - Level WHM to lvl20 and go to jueno
        - Get chocobo license
        - Take a day or two and level BLM to lvl15 atleast
        - Now focus on WHM and get to lvl30 atleast
        - Complete Bard quest
        - Become BRD/WHM in your mog house
        - Train your BRD to your liking (Your sub is good till you're lvl60)

Once you reach lvl 30 BRD, or on your way to lvl30, you can compare with WHM/BLM for yourself which you like best. You can train your BRD to lvl60 without worrying about subjob. You can also take a week or two to level your BLM from lvl15 to lvl30, having WHM as a subjob to help you. You'll have your BLM sub ready till you reach lvl 60 as a WHM... and you can alternate being a WHM or BRD depending on what your party needs.

Hope this helps... I typed it mostly with 1 hand cause I twisted my left wrist playing basketball.

Thanks for the info and tips, guys ^_^ I was beginning to think that I wouldn't get any responses. Your information though does give me a good bit to think about in helping to decide my jobs and race. Thanks again!

vissione - I hope your wrist is doing better soon! I don't think I could stand typing that much with only one hand.
