Level MNK. Also THF, NIN, SAM, and DNC, depending on how far you want to take WAR. For now, MNK will do, and will be all you really need until about level 30.

Yeah, sadly party leaders might look at a WAR14/DRG7 and think 'huh?!?'. This could affect your invites.

However at WAR20/DRG10, that should disappear. This is a perfectly fine DD job combination, giving attack+10 and access to Jump (fantastic job ability if you're using a Great Axe like I'd hope you are^^)

Soooooo~ options: Keep struggling through the Dunes and get to WAR20. At that point you should find your invites pick up.

Or...

Go back to moghouse and switch to MNK. Level that using WAR as a subjob as far as you feel necessary, then you can switch back to WAR and go WAR/MNK as far as 37 easily.

One question: how far are you planning on taking WAR? Just to 37, or beyond?

Well war is going to be a sub job majorlly to support DRG and Nin (lvl till 37) as well.

But is just so much pain for lvling it >.<!!

I have been in the game for only few months, but finding war is quite difficult to lvl (since I have started my lvling in mages 1st)

any good advised for over coming that kind of feeling >.<!!

Standard advice you can read in the WAR forum and stickies applies. Use a great axe, level MNK for sub, Shield Break only, level MNK for sub, eat meat dishes or maybe DEF for tanking, level MNK for sub, be willing to pull, level MNK for sub, and if you can't find a party, just leave your flag up and solo Easy Prey until you do.

Also, level MNK for your sub.

o.O; seem like quite a bit emphesis on lvling mnk !!! is your mnk job at lvl 75?!

At the same time what sort of is food is good for melee job! hehe... well this is the 2nd melee job no idea what food will be nice and cheap!!

You could do /drg to 37. You may struggle with invites as many will look at the job combo and get a headache thinking about it, but it's perfectly workable.

If you just want WAR to 37, don't feel that you absolutely NEED to level up MNK especially for that (as Ellipses seems to be suggesting).

MNK's best overall, yes. But not mandatory. WAR/DRG with a G.Axe between 20 and 37 is a potent DD.

As for enjoyment.. Well WAR can be tough when you're missing a lot. Loooooooooong delay on your Great Axe, followed by a swish! as your weapon meets nothing but empty air. Your innate accuracy will naturally get better as you climb through the dunes, by Qufim you'll still be missing but not as regularly. That helps. Really though, WAR is about nice solid numbers and helping out your tank. Carry a boomerang around too, in case your party needs a puller.

Really, there's no tips on 'how to enjoy WAR more'. You may find it's just not your kettle of chips, but even so, you need it to 37 as you're well aware..

(If you want to go silly, levelling THF up to 18 (THF15 should be on your to-do list anyway^^) and then going WAR/THF at 30-37 can be hilarious with Sneak Attack + Sturmwinds. Sure, you'll piss off your mages, embarass your tanks, probably cause downtime when you die from pulling so much hate... but it can still be a heck of a lot of fun if you have a laissez-faire kinda party.

Food...

Meat jerky/mithkabobs (pure attack/STR) are great if accuracy isn't an issue. Cheap too typically.

Jack-O'-Lanterns are nice accuracy food (+10 to acc and eva). 3 hour food, bring a handful just in case.

Rice Dumplings add a bit of everything, +attack, +STR, +5 acc, other stuff too besides. Great food. Pricey though!

I'd carry meat jerky and a few jack-o-lanterns during the dunes/qufim and use accordingly. From 25 onwards, I personally would switch to Dumplings if my gil was able to support it, otherwise Meat Mithkabob/Jack-O still...

My impression was that you're finding WAR difficult to level because of the lack of party invites, and wanted advice on making that easier. If that's the case, MNK will be the easiest way to solve that. WAR/DRG may be a great DD after 20, but most party leaders aren't going to know that, and I wouldn't count on it being much of a tank. Everyone knows WAR/MNK and knows it makes a great tank or DD through the 30s. It's the easy answer to getting more invites, though obviously there are no guarantees. NIN falls into that category as well, but only after 24 (and MNK is still generally better for a good chunk of that, it's just that people don't think so).

Also make sure you're setting up a decent search comment. Put in you TNL even though no one reads it, put in whether you're willing to tank, whether you're willing to pull ("{Ranged Attack} O"), put in that you have food, etc. Get your Rank as high as you can.

If you're just finding it difficult to actually play the job, it might help to know what you are doing to give you specific advice. Gear and food are hugely important for melee jobs. Always get the best you can. STR rings, and maybe DEX (wear the DEX for normal melee if you need ACC, then swap in STR for weaponskills). Meat Jerky is cheap from NPCs and can last you quite a while. Rice Dumplings or Jack O'Lanterns if you'd like more accuracy. Boiled Crab for defense.

Hello, just lvl your War solo in one of the crag zones, that should be fairly easy. If you got gil or cooking skill you can sub/whm and use juices to lower downtime. Once your lvl 17, then you can lvl your ninja up to 37 and that will be easy. Once you lvl 12 on that job solo is a synch cuz you hardly ever get hit. Once that is 37 which will be no problem /war all the way, your set for war to 75 without any problems.

You must use Great Axe, and you must use Shield Break. These two rules are mandatory.

That said, don't use Jack-O-Lanterns, because Shield Break's massive -40 Evasion will solve your Accuracy woes. Use Attack food. Meat Jerky is recommended at this level, though you'll soon need to move up to something with a higher cap. Meat Mithkabobs are a fine choice after Meat Jerky but there may be something cheaper, I haven't checked lately. Rice Dumplings are great if you can afford, but don't feel you'll be gimped without them.

Some people will try to persuade you into using the WS, Sturmwind, after level 23. Most of the time, these people have no clue about Shield Break's goodness, and you should ignore them.

War is honestly a handy sub to use as well, you can use it as a toe hold (sub of a sub) for other jobs you may want to sub into drg - sam, blu, thf, drk, mnk, ect. there are many jobs that will benefit from leveling up with a warrior sub making you harder to kill and put out a bit more damage.

As I'm leveling MNK/WAR, and later would like to up ninja as well!! honestly why most of the players in games they /nin for war instate! =X

which I found a bit confusing... all the time is "nin/war" but this is the other way round war/nin what is the benefit out of this kinda of sub!? and pt leader found it is annoying when asking this kind of player to be tank >.<!!

the benefits to having /nin sub are:

at lvl 20 you get dual wield, 2 axes
at lvl 24 you get utsesumi: itchi, which allows you to tank without being a mp drain on the mages... to a certain extent...
at lvl 30 you get the elemental wheel, but honestly that is useless
i forget the actual lvls ofthe sneak and invisible nunjitsu magics but they are available when nin is subed too.

other then that you really don't get anything but evasion bonus from a /nin. personally i preffered /mnk while i was lvling war as a sub for my mnk. it provides more hp, att, and better stats then /nin...

food for melee is meat... any meat just be sure it is meat
