  • The Rudeness

Normally I don't bother biatching about stuff like this, but this is starting to happen to me very, very often, and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. I was working my way up to 75 BRD for the last couple of weeks, and as such I ended up at the Nyzul Isle > Bhaflau Thickets camp often. When I choose a camp, I generally tend to /sea the area, and many times actually travel out to the campsite beforehand, so that I know for sure that a camp is open, because I despise fighting over mobs, I'd rather go to Sky or something and have slightly less xp with less headaches and downtime.

4 out of the last 5 times, my party has been set up in camp, clearly in full swing fighting, and have had other parties try to(and at least twice successfully) run us out of our camp. I'm not talking about setting up camp a bit away in an area that maybe doesn't support two parties, I'm talking flat out sitting on top of us and outclaiming us.

There have been 2 things that have always been the same when this has happened: They have always been full JP parties, and always with BRDs that have Sha'ir Manteel/Minstrel's Ring(which I cannot afford at this time) so that they could outpull my BRD easily. I don't often see JP players do this kind of rude stuff, usually the NAs tend to be more cutthroat(see also: asshats) in my experiences. It seems like these JPs are taking over our for no reason other than simply because they can.

Is anyone else having this sort of problem while trying to merit?

Side note: As far as I know this isn't a GM-callable offense, so I really only have one form of recourse. One of the groups that did successfully hijack our camp paid for it at least. The BRD got sloppy and let a sleeping mob go unclaimed. Hello, Mr. Dia. Hope the bastards enjoyed their wipe.

While you can't call a GM on you for claiming unclaimed mobs, MPKing them is GM-callable so I'd be cautious of how you do that.

I wouldn't say it's just JPs or just NAs. It's assholes, and there are assholes in every county. I've had this problem from time to time, but most times the parties will not camp ontop of use. It did happen lately, but thier rdm, warX4, nin party didn't stand a chance against our 2brd, whm, nin, warX2 party.

What you can do if you can get some claims in is leave certain mobs for them. This works well in Nyzul > Thickets camp with mamool. Let the thfs and blms for them and target the others. Eventually they'll get tired of getting -ga'ed and have to eat sushi/madrigal and will leave in most cases.

There just seems to be a lack of viable camps now. No one does sky/ul.range now because it's difficult to get high chains. Also it's a pain to get there.

This is why I hate the common xp areas. Go to Mt. Zhayolm and fight Trolls behind the gates of Halvung. We've never had any competition meriting there.

          Re: The Rudeness

For some reason, I always have the joy of pissing off those Manteele BRDs with a few well-placed Light Shots on COR or a Peacemaker shot to claim in between. They usually bail to another camp almost within 10 minutes. Nothing is a bigger blow to a BRD's ego that a COR than can outpull them.

Another thing you can do is just get another melee to start pulling/voking mobs and start sleeping those. Some melee already do this by nature and experience in TP burn PTs.

This camp is just one of those where you have to take off the gloves and be competitive to keep your camp. If somone comes and tries to take your camp, show them why it was your camp first w/o doing anything to them. Just hurt thier EXP per hour, don't hurt them.

Yeah, I personally love that camp, it only is taken during times that crossover as both peak NA and JP merit times, like Friday nights(NA)/Saturday mornings(JP). I try to do this camp often, but many times I'm not the party leader and the overwhelming voice of the party is "b-b-but imps have such low hp!" Oh, how I despise Heraldic Imps.

Working on it; ; That's a whole lot of Periqa, but I need to do it anyways so that I can get 2 more rankups, get a Shark Gun, and get back to COR. Also trying to get a Minstrel's Ring the next time I get a decent chunk of gil.

"Oh, I saw an unclaimed mob and used the fastest spell I had to try and claim it. I didn't know they had hate..."

              Works. Every. Time.

Let me add that I really do not promote MPKing, b/c it's very asshole-ish in nature, but rudeness begets rudeness.

Tell me about it; ; I was actually very fortunate that I recently got an xp party of all good players, who all agreed that they'd rather take a few minutes to go to Sky than deal with the AU crowd. And the Sky shortcut quest rules! The only large downside is that once someone is ready to go, the party is over, because getting a replacement to come out to Sky is not going on.

                Re: The Rudeness

Everyone gets this problems, it's generally Nyzul Isle and the mire that get really over-camped and people get vicious over mobs. You might be able to call a GM and complain about them monopolizing the mobs but I'm not sure about that. Generally if a party of mine has that problem and we really can't match their claiming, we just move and get sorted out as quickly as possibly. But it is really annoying and I do feel your pain.

This is the kind of shit that just boils my blood. Since when did anarchy become the norm? What the *************************** happened to common courtesy?

We need more effing camps. Why? Because TP burning in ToAU is so damned good that everyone wants a piece of the pie and figures EXP will still be good even with 100+ people in the zone. SE has to do something to thin the herds. It's especially bad during JP prime time (I don't even bother putting my flag up past 10 PM EST anymore - _ -)

IMO, there's no reason to go around sleeping 2-3+ mobs at a time in an attempt to claim the zone as your property. Piss off, everyone has the right to come EXP there and it really should be first come first serve. If it's crowded, GTFO and wait your turn or go exp elsewhere please.

All flooding an area accomplishes is screwing up everyone's EXP, thus encouraging people to use bitch tactics like the aforementioned.

                    Re: The Rudeness

On the subject of sleeping mobs for pulling, I believe it is a selfish and greedy tactic.

Someone once went on about how BRD was so much better than COR (while I was playing Corsair in the party mind you) because they could sleep several mobs at once. "lol thats the way u pull"

I don't care if it's "the way you pull", neither do I care whether it's in Valkurm or in the endgame areas. It's inconsiderate and only makes you look like an exp whore. I never associate with such people - they tend to be downright jerks.

Another thing that always bothered me is when my party (or just my party's leader) starts flipping off some BST in the same area that we're exping in. Last time I checked, that BST wants exp just as much as we do. Sure, a BST can solo, that's true, but there are certain areas that are safer than others, and there are some areas that are more efficient.

The worst thing that EVER bugged me though was when ToAU first came out, and suddenly everyone was all "Aht Urghan onry". Seriously, what the hell? What about those that didn't yet have the expansion? The only thing you'd be doing to them would be excluding them from exping with you. Good grief.

All in all, I say we need more camps in more areas and (for the folks who whore the exp) a serious attitude adjustment. After all, would YOU like someone sleeping all the mobs in the zone so YOU couldn't exp?

                    I know I wouldn't.

It's actually a common crowd control tactic used in a lot of different MMOs, and not necessarily done to keep other parties/players from claiming mobs. You would see it done by a party with zero competition.

Yes, I sleep pull regardless of competition, it's not about holding mobs away from others, it's about having them right next to the party when the current one is defeated, without the mob beating you down in the process. The aim is so that the melee don't have to spend time traveling to the next mob and can just voke and swing; saving those few seconds can often make the difference between keeping the chain going or not. When it comes to keeping others from claiming I use spells that cast faster than sleep, and usually use non damaging debuffs just to keep the mob red. The sleeping itself has nothing to do with keeping it away from others.

In example, like the party who stole our camp I wrote about in the first post, it wasn't the BRD's sleeping that let him steal my camp, it was his Elegy that cast much faster than mine. In fact it was his overuse of Lullaby that let me mpk them(again I do not promote this, but this specific brd/party were just absolute a$$holes about the way they did things.)

What the *************************** happened to common courtesy?
                        This.
                        That's the issue.

                          Re: The Rudeness

Sleeping multiples is nice, but COR/NIN can keep a chain going just as easy if they're needed to pull and setup a fight with Light Shot.

And personally, I've never needed to Horde Lullaby in merit that often as a BRD. Horde is just as much about holding mobs from other PTs as it is taking time off of mob engagement. You shouldn't need to hold mobs ever, its just used because people know other parties will horde mobs this way.

I'll pull multiple as COR, too, because I usually have a RDM to back me anyway. If no RDM, I can just Blink pulls in between Light Shot recast via Utsusemi

People don't care or lack consideration. I've been in parties with players from various regions that would sit at a camp and even after I objected, would just go ahead and exp there. Of course, the exp is horrible since there's less mob feeding an ever growing camp population.

Generally it's this mentality that "if our party can out pull yours, you should leave you nubs."
