  • Question on etiquette

Ok, so in my static in which i am a ranger, i pull, i love puling, i love the feeling of bringing a mob back for the rest of my party to just destroy, being bait is nice (dont ask me why i just dont know). Anyway i was pulling in the new area and there was like 6 parties there so competition was tight. I was still doin alright, keepin my party busy and cheapin the chains up, some other parties come and go but then there is this one party that shows up and just really got under my skin...well not so much the party as their puller.

Now I have pulled in areas with a lot of competition, i have even pulled against bards (who was pullin for this other party), and i have always felt that there was a sort of unwritten civility between all pullers, an etiquette if you will when it comes to pulling, esspecially when pulling in highly competative areas. Now the fact that the other party was holding upwords of 2-3 puks at a time didnt bother me, i mean they had a bard pullin and that is one of the nice things about the bard pullin is that you get to line up the mobs, but it was the tactics that the bard was using that was bothering me and i need to know if i am just being overly sensative, if i should throw out everything i have tired to uphold when it comes to courtesy.

So I am out pullin when I see the little tarutaru brd start singin next to me, as I had drawn my bow back, and that was ok we probably targeted it at the same time, he gets the pull cause rapid shot didn’t kick in, but I am ok with that, what I wasn’t ok with was when I ran to the next puk I saw, which was in the opposite direction of his party and he ran right with me and got that one. Now once or twice, ok, but every time I went out to get 1 mob he would be right there. Now, am I being to sensitive? Is this the way it works at higher lvls (rng is my highest job at 71) and I should just adjust? I need some guidance here cause I was really really irked. Now finally the rhythms of the parties got to be in such a way that I didn’t pull with him out as often, but sure enough when I was there was that little tarutaru right next to me (or close). I tried to talk to him, but he was a JP player and the auto translator isn’t that great (at least I wasn’t able to find a way using it) for relaying my concern, so I just didn’t say anything…to him.

I bring this up only cause this is really the first time I have had this problem and I need a little advice on what to expect. Thanks.

    Re: Question on etiquette

Honestly, nobody follows any etiquette in the new areas. A friend of mine was leveling his BST in Bhaflau Thickets. He'd been camping at the same spot for 3 days. Then one day, a party comes along, camps on top of him, and demands that he move. They said, and I FUCKING QUOTE, "You're a BST, you can go somewhere else, we're a party, we can't go anywhere else at 62." Anyone that's not mentally challenged and has half a brain knows that 62-65 has a TON of XP spots. Just off the top of my head, I can name: Bibiki Bay, Labyrynth of Onzozo, Cape Terrigan (on Cockatrice), and the Boyahda Tree. So basically, he moved, ended up dying, and came back, saying this is his camp. The party said "FUCK YOU" to him. And he ended up taking all their XP mobs.

So, I guess, in the new areas, when there's another party, don't pay any attention to them if they end up acting like Jackasses, just go for your XP.

      Re: Question on etiquette

Some people prefer to crowd other parties out. It's just their way. Do I agree with it? No. I mean, if I'm pulling, I like to get the best mobs for my party, but I'm not going to be rude to the other pullers.

I wouldn't look at this individual's behavior as the rule. It's just an overly competitve person who didn't want you around.

        Re: Question on etiquette

I always try to be polite when pulling, going with "there are enough mobs for everyone"
stance. Sometimes though, you get a group that wants to monopolize all of the mobs.
(I dislike this with a passion, especially if my party was there first).

In my opinion, you really have 3 choices in that situation. 1.You can stay where
you are, and let your experience per hour go down the tubes. 2.You can move
to a new camp. 3.You can compete and use similar tactics to pull and hold
multiple mobs hurting both parties experience per hour until one of the parties leaves.

I like to go with #3 lol.

You could see it as unfair, but really he wasn't doing anything too bad. Uncourteous perhaps, but not unfair. It seems he was just leeching off your widescan. You had a fairly even chance to pull, it could make an entertaining challenge.
A good tactic would be to use his tactic against him - lead the bard astray while the tank or someone else pulled ^^
