  • TP burn PTs, how early?

Lately, one of my fav pt setups have been TP burns. Of course at these end lvls everyone has access to mad WSes. I was wondering how early lvl wise do you think TP burn set ups are a viable option?

isn't a tp burn like 3+ sams unleashing a ws every 20 seconds or so o.O

edit: i dont wanna look like an ass.

i think ive seen em in kuftal tunnel on tigers/manticores

Lowest TP burn I have been in that was successful was at lvl 59-61 in Gustav Tunnel. PT setup was:

      NIN/WAR/WAR/DRKsubNIN/BRD/WHM

We racked in 9k per hour in that party and had a blast.

Well all the TP burn PTs Ive been in are basically like this: Nin tank, whm, rdm, brd (choose 2) and then 3 other DDers usu: War, Drg, Sam or Drk (a combo there in) The idea being of course as soon as you get TP, you spam your WS. If you get main deco weapon camp in Sky, a good pt can seriously just wander from one room back to the other on a non stop killing spree. Subbing /nin is useful to avoid AoE.

Anyway, thanks for the insights on it. I figured it wasnt until later levels that this was viable.

i think tp burn is doable at a lvl where you have access to a big ws.
a few that come to mind are, rampage, sidewinder, wheeling thrust, gekko, dancingedge/sharkbite, raging fist... etc....

im guessing 50 might be the earliest for most jobs. thats when they get double attack from war sub and that helps with tp gain.

mnks at 50 spamming raging fist or war/nins at 55 dropping rampages sound pretty good. rngs letting sidewinder/barrage go is pretty intense also.

i was in a pt last night at 63, killing gobbies in bibiki. we were using sa+death scissors, slugshot and guillotine. we had a skill chain but even w/o the skill chain, we killed the mob just as fast. skillchain is only needed imo, when you have a blm. it puts the blm to use. if youre going with a brd+rdm and 4 melee, skillchain isnt needed, just spamming those high dmg skills works well enough.

Well, pretty much EVERY PT I've been in ToA area were TP burn... meaning, no skillchain right? 60-75 all the way.
Probably because we're killing weaker mobs and shoot for chains with EXP bonus...
Or maybe because I'm a warrior with 1h axe and can't skillchain with anyone -.-? I don't know...

A DRK wanted to do darkness SC with me once... then I asked if he really wanted me to open the chain with the weak weak spinning axe, everyone else kinda went, meh, use rampage, plz...

ToAU burn parties can start as early as 57 with the right setup I think, fighting Lesser Colibri in Wajaom Woodlands. I haven't heard of anyone attempting TP burn parties any lower than that.

I'd day burn parties can start around 30 and go all the way to 75. One of the jobs on my main char is 75BRD and I leveled it twice after that on two other characters (ya ya, call me crazy but i love the job), starting TP burns at lvl30ish all the way to 75. The best setup in my opinion for TP burn is nin/brd/rdm(these are the core jobs needed..whm instead of rdm works also, but u will have to rest eventually)/DD/DD/DD.

Mnks (turn into jesus with a bard), wars, eh..maybe drks, rngs...eh if they're good, sams are really hot, stuff like that. I got the craziest xp with nin/brd/rdm/mnk/mnk/sam. Just insane xp! The nin had a really hard time, but he stopped caring when the chain 8-9s started rolling in (this was like lvl53ish btw).

The best xp I've ever had was with this setups:

                      BRD+RDM, DD(/NIN?) x4

No down time, uber dmg, and if your DD have enough +acc gear they can either get att songs or March x2 (Haste always on of course). Really, watching a group of MNKs clear KRT in less time than it takes for mobs to respawn is a thing of beauty.

Re: TP burn PTs, how early?

TP burns usually need multiple /nin subs as that "passes hate" like a chain.

The nin/war is only then for the setup of TP before he loses hate.

To do this, it's usually good to pick a monster that dies fast i.e ->low def/ high eva, and a monster with (possible)single target offensive attacks (not things like crawler that would cocoon, or crabs with str down, stoneskin, def up).

Obviously you need a hard hitting WS, though, sidewinder isn't as effective with the ranger update, so usually mnks/nin and war/nin, are choices Drg can do it sort of, if the pet doesn't need that much upkeep.

Also sushi, and most likely a brd(dual valor).

                        4 melees + 1 rdm or whm+ a brd is a likely setup.

low IT to VT is prefered because low def usually means high eva, and a vt will makes it much easier.

Finally you need a camp that has 8+ close. (most important)

Dino's at 60 is possible, kitties, chickens at 40ish, flies at at high 60s, lizards at high 50s. forgot when to do birds in sky.

                        And most resently imps =p.

Result will vary, as more pts = less monsters, and everyone must be sushied and equiped to kill.

Re: TP burn PTs, how early?

TP burn PTs IMO can start really low levels. Basically, though, you need to fight monsters that aren't too high that you can't kill fast enough without needing a SC, but not too low that the exp gained is lower than the threshold for maximum returns (That's probably high T to low VT for most players)

I think TP burns are usually a combination of pure damage in an almost reckless abandonment of safety or tactics. For example, having a SAM/RNG going to town or a DRK/DRG eating meat and spamming jump and sleep bolts... This is evidenced as early as Dunes PT, where you just boing the monster around from melee to melee, plinking arrows/bolts/bullets/shurikens at it and swinging your weapons and just spamming your WS. In most cases, any halfway decently equipped melee can act as a "soft tank" and since hate is usually being passed around long enough to only get swung at one... there's no need for a tank that holds the party back or a need for MB'ing.

Reason why PLDs are usually out of luck with invites at this point. Same with BLMs/SMNs.
