Re: Outside the Box (Unless You're On it)

Heh. That's what we get for not spending more time getting to know the search function.^^

Then again, this started as a (completely justified) rant, and then turned into guide discussion, so while our hearts were in the right place, we just needed to do some more research.

Going to check that thread out now.^^

The rant is very valid. We wanted to educate others on it.

I don't think the guide that has been written encompases all the features that would need to be fixed by this rant. There also aren't links to other information sources or terifically detailed notes on each mob. Basically to make you more comfortable with certain situations.

I think the most important thing is confidence. I can tell you that Caderva Mire is awesome XP and we can go stand at C-9 and do awesome. But you'd feel more comfortable (rhetorically speaking) going to Valley of Sorrows because you've been there before.

Maybe we just start adding to that guide.

The only real problem with that guide is that if his webserver goes down, the guide goes away.

There it is. I think we could get a better guide going, better formating maybe and with notes on each level range and stuff, or a more concise list, but that list looks pretty kickass.

        So, nevermind guys

        Spread the word.
Thanks for posting that, I didn't even think to look for new PT spots, I've been satfisfied with the 'normal' spots, but a change of scenery is in order; Glad I peeked into this thread.

Yeah, plus having the guide on this site means increased traffic to FFXIO.

Especially since a good number of people left Allas and I wanted to make sure I can at least contact them over here.

Maybe we can submit a guide to the site, with the help of the person who wrote the stickies, and merge our ideas for a single guide while being able to use the formating power of HTML.

Not a bad idea. I'm reading the guide now, and it's really not bad. I'd like to see a sub-section on soloing longer than 13-14, but that might be more useful on each job's main forum. I dunno.

Some people feel better about having specialized schools of information for each Job, I feel it is better to have a sort of "one stop shop" even though each job has different "favorite" mobs.

I'm not sure what the site needs though.

I fall more into the general leveling for all camp, with perhaps special notes for Group and Solo exp. In each job forum, specific techniques can be discussed, so that people who are actually interested in that information can get it.

With the recent trend towards more people wanting/needing solo play, I think adding solo information (not just BST) to a leveling guide is a really great idea.

For instance, in the example I used above (Beetles in Sauromuge) I know that you can go back and take those on solo near the late 20s or early 30s or thereabouts (job depending) and it would be handy for non-BST folks to know that. Then again, I'm also of the opinion that directing solo folks to areas that aren't too popular with exp parties is a good idea as well.

So I don't know how best to address that, but I really feel like it needs to be. I'm more than happy to contribute.

Sometimes, it pays to think outside the box. Case in point, my girlfriend's party today that pissed me off to no end. They were in the first jungle, level grinding on mandies. They didn't have a proper tank - in fact, they had a War/Mnk because that was available, but they were holding thier own just fine.
how is a WAR/MNK not a proper tank in those lvls?

                      Which FF Character Are You?

And you, wich Final Fantasy character do you resemble?

Personally I think a WAR/MNK is the ideal tank for those levels, but maybe that's just me. SAM/WAR also does rather well. DRG and MNK can tank too, but they don't get to wear chain, so they will get hit a bit harder than WAR or SAM.

I'm of the opinion that until mid 40s most melee jobs can tank with the correct support behind them, of course that differs with all of the jobs(All include RDM and BRD though... some with SMN in addtion, others WHM, a couple don't truly need either)

Back in the day I tanked to 40 as a WAR/MNK with no trouble whatsoever, so I'll agree with you there. I also often took over tanking duties while leveling my DRG (if our tank was bad, or if we couldn't find one) and sometimes as MNK. It's very doable.

I just wanted to add that Boyahda Tree is not the only place for 57-60. There's Upper Delkfutt Gigas, bats, and pots. People had to level someplace to beat Shadowlord pre-Zilart. Make sure you save your Delkfutt key though.

Heh. I used to team farm Delkfutt's with a RDM friend of mine, and we found out the hard way that suddenly the mobs up there get really hard if you go through a particular door.

I never got a chance to exp up there, but I'd like to. Boyhda isn't bad, if your party knows what it's doing, but it gets crowded there fast.
