If you're 40 or lower, you'll need to either sneak/invis or fight your way up. I don't know what level the aggro stops, but I know it's not 40. Whether you need a full party or not also depends on your level. If you're both(?) 40 or higher, you shouldn't have too many problems with him. Make sure to get the tower map first. Just finding the way up is a PITA if you don't have someone guiding you.

Aggro on the upper level of Delkfutt's Tower doesn't stop until around level 50 as I recall, maybe even later.
All you really need is one level 75 player to ride herd and kill/sleep/whatever everything on the way. Easier, safer, and less confusing than trying to get a whole group sneak/invised through the entire zone.
I've done the Rank 4 escort through the Tower more times than I can recall now. For a group, it's definitely faster to just kill everything. For a single person, a level 75 mage who can cast Sneak and Invisible is going to be the fastest ticket to floor 10.
I did this as a 51WHM with a 61BLU alongside me no problem. The only aggro we had was when the BLU accidentally linked the NM outside Porphyrion's room while we were clearing out the place.
If you're below Lv40 you're much better off bringing high level help to deal with the NM blocking the door to Porphyrion's chamber. Not sure what level it is but I would say a Lv50 can solo it easily. The only aggro you should really have problems with are the Dolls and pots on the way up and the stuff on the 10th floor.
You will want to clear Porphyrion's room before fighting him as he can and will link with the 6+ Gigas in the room. He is a RNG mob so he will go down fast but you still don't want all of the other gigas linking and charging at you, especially in a Lv40 party.
And if you are getting help from a high level friend and/or someone who has done this before tell them to bring their Delkfutt's key or a warp. My BLU friend forgot his and I had to go all the way back up there to tele him out of there. Thankfully he knew the route back down so we were able to meet up part way up the tower.
If it were me, I wouldn't want help from high levels. Doing it yourself and the stories you have to tell afterwards are much more rewarding than saving a bit of time and exp.

I dunno.
I had a fairly high level friend, Kalmiera, demand that I let her help me through the mission to get me an airship pass. Keep in mind that my highest job was maybe lvl 28 Rdm at this time. I finally let her take me on the mission after she threatened to tie me up and leave me alone with her moogle.
The end result, I got my airship pass, and a nice story to tell about how I got Tractored through about half of Castle Oztroja!
You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.
I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.
When I went, it was with a PLD in his 50s or 60s. We were in a group, IIRC when we couldn't dodge them he would just piss them off and get them to attack him while the rest of us ran like hell.
Either way, the only advice you should need is to KEEP THE KEY after you use it. Also, does anyone know if the old "Die, and have someone with key tractor you through the door" trick still works?
OK for clarification - the wiki says ...Once you are on the 10th Floor you fight Porphyrion at H-8 for Delkfutt Key.
Porphyrion will drop 6 Delkfutt keys each and is a 10 minute respawn.
After everyone has a Delkfutt Key, trade the key to the floor at H-8 to activate the elevator. Descend the long stairway to return to the first floor.
Once you exit the door at the base of the stairs, you will see a large empty room ahead of you. There are three tunnels with solid doors at the end across this room. Windurstians want the left tunnel. Trade the key to the solid door at (M-7) to activate the cutscene with Windurstian Ambassador, Heimji-Keimji.
Return to the Windurst Embassy in Ru'Lude Gardens and speak to Pakh Jatalfih first, then proceed to ambassador Heimji-Keimji's office to receive your reward...
OK - am I missing something - you have to trade the key twice? (Once to get the elevator and once at the tunnel for your nation?) or two keys?
You can use the key over and over, it doesn't leave your inventory. To keep it, just don't drop it. (He drops 6 because it's ra/ex, and that way everyone in a party can get one.)

unless they changed it, you trade the key to 'use' it, but it stays in your inventory.
Having the key, even in storage, will be useful later on, since you can use it to access a shortcut to the tenth floor. Mainly, this is useful for ZM and helping other people with Rank 4
It's also handy for farming, since you need the key to get into the tower basement. Delkfutt's Tower is one of the easier places to farm up cermet ingredients (Magic Pot Shards, Doll Shards), and you can often get lightning clusters there as well.

My first time doing this mission, I was 32, and went with two other lvl 30 friends, and two other friends lvl 50 and 60. I was bored out of my skull. I hated being babied and dragged through a mission like a dead wieght. And since that day I made sure that any mission I did I was on the higher end and I was holding my own. Didn't even start ZM or ToAU missions till I was 70 and didn't bother doing my AF body fight until I was high enough to equip it.
It's much more fun, imo, when you're useful for a fight.

As said before, the key will be a permanent item in your inventory from that point on. You can use it as many times as you want and it will never break. Having said that, I suggest keeping it in your Mog Safe, this way you will always have access to it. And make sure to pack it on any trip you take to the Tower as you can easily get stranded up there because you didn't know you'll need it. And if it's in your inventory, you won't be able to lot a second key when it drops from the NM.
