  • Diabolos Prime

I've set up a party to do a Diabolos Prime run. The pt consists of

    Me, 72 smn
    3 blms 75
    75 Pld
    75 Rdm/drk

I know the basics of a manaburn (I feel really dumb for asking) The blms nuke together, the pld has invinsible on and provokes, and the rdm chainspell casts stun.

But when exactly does this all happen? Clearly not at the start of the fight right? Can someone help me with what exactly when to do this all? >_> I'm assuming when he's like half hp or a quarter down?

    Re: Diabolos Prime

From my understanding, the Paladin actually drops the party before he engages, to attempt to spare the mages from Draw In, but I have my doubts that that works, unless someone can confirm that strategy. While the Paladin has Diabolos' attention through the use of Provoke/Invincible, the mages unload with everything they got (kitchen sink included). Hopefully Diabolos dies before Invincible is up; that's the general goal, at least.

Best way is mages time a large nuke from the top - getting the first shot in for free - if you can take a chunk off his hp for free, it is much better. Get drawn in, pld vokes, probably invicibles to try and hold hate, rdm/drk CS stuns, blm go nuts, try to get as much damage done in the time while the rdm is stunning. At least, that is how I did it....

Step by Step Path to Victory

        - After everyone is buffed/ready, Paladin drops from the party and goes down to
engage Diabolos. This way, when Diabolos goes to draw-in the party, only the
PLD will be down there with him. Re-invite him ASAP after the draw-in.

        - Now that everyone else is safe from being drawn in, 2-hour and let his ass have it.
Non-stop Thundaga/Thunder 3 from the BLM's, and Chainspell Stun from the RDM to
prevent Nightmare or any other misshaps. Not sure what you should do as SMN,
but by your level I believe the 70 BP's actually out damage Astral Flow right? You
should be relatively safe since the PLD will have hit invincible and is basically
super-tanking Diabolos while you guys lay the smack down. It should be even
easier for this tactic to work now thanks to the Sentinel and Rampart changes.

That's it in a nutshell. It's a freaking cheap tactic IMO, but it works.

          Re: Diabolos Prime

Just a note from my experience:

Diabolos gradually builds a Stun resistance the more it is used. As RDM/DRK(w/ 1 Dark Magic Merit, 1 Thunder Acc merit, +5 Magic Acc, Dark Torque, and Abyssal Earring at the time) when I went for the CS Stun, after about 5 of them he started resisting it altogether. The RDM can use CS to have no recast timer, but Stun spam will build the resistance quickly. Luckily I realized it was resisting and was able to finish him off with some chain-nukes

Diabolos Prime was an absolute bish for me, took 9 tries to beat.

                Re: Diabolos Prime

I read on Wiki that the Draw in trick no longer works(boy a month old post...I'd start a new one but...)

Anyway does anyone have some alternate killing strats?

                1. I know you need a stunner. The best time to stun is right when he tries to use Nightmare(must not get hit by it!).

                2. I have weird groups(well in mind)...my only 75 is THF and I totally refuse to cheese it...even if I only help alittle....

My Summoner is lvl 50 and I want this guy now!

                  Re: Diabolos Prime

For stunning, the only way to go is RDM/DRK (chainspell) or a BLU. BLU has at least 5 different stun spells so that should come in handy.

You absolutely can not allow Nightmare to go off. You're utterly screwed if it does.
