  • LImit Break 3

    Hello all

The time has come for me to break through my inner limits once again.

Now, Limit Break 3 - Hard or Easy, Soloable or not?

I have heard both. One friend that just did it, said it was the hardest one for him so far. Took 2 75WHM with him and one died.

Then i hear others saying its the easiest one, soloable and is really a joke.

What am I to believe?? I know there are True Sight NM's involved, but can they be avoided?

And do I need LB3 done to hit 60, or is it only for 61-65?

    Thanks

    Whence Blows the Wind

Read the walk-through and you'll get the idea. For someone like me, who can get lost with a map in almost any zone, having someone guiding me through was almost required. Of course, a friend of mine basically solo'ed his around the same time, except for the Yagudo Crest portion.

I have read that already - and whilst I can say to myself "Well, it looks like I can solo it"...maybe there are some parts that make it not feasible.

I am, I would say, competant in navigation - I can navigate areas I dont have a map to by the use of my laptop and FFXI Cartography site, no problem.

It's pretty much soloable, but it can be tough to get through the door at the top of Castle Oz without some assistance. I've done it in a huge group as a PLD, solo as a WHM, and semi-solo as a RDM.

You can definitely solo Davoi and Beadeaux, provided you're careful. Oz can be annoying with the business of door opening.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have in-game. You know how to find me.^^

          Murph, you back on??!

I might well take you up on that - mostly when I try to solo it and die a horrible death, and I ask you if you can come and pwn some yags and raise me :p

Well, I'm not sure I'd be much help against the Yags. I could certainly try though (would rather have one more level and a /NIN sub, but I'm up for anything).

Reward: Raises level cap to 65
              (That's why I thought you haven't, BTW.)

Given that's the case, I would advice you try to get help from someone familiar with the zones and mob behavior; it'll be safer that way. Of course, you can always team up with someone else who wants Genkai 3--it's more fun to have someone else suffer with you. ^_-

I don't think you can do the Yagudo Crest portion solo; one of the door practically requires two people, unless you Flee and Hide after lightning a torch, if memory serves.

              Edit:

I probably skipped a step in my logic: Atop the Highest Mountains says "Reward: Raises level cap to 60". That means you can get to Lv.60 with Genkai 2 done, but no further without Genaki 3.

Or get lucky and arrive as someone else is fiddling with the door (that happened to me). But yeah.

Castle Oz is the only tricky part, I got a thf friend to help me out. Once past the door she aggro'd the true sight mob, activated flee and trained all the yags out of there before warping out, leaving me free to run in and check the item and warp off.

                    Re: LImit Break 3

I soloed it as a whm, though I've helped a number of people with LB3.

Annoying parts are in Davoi where you have to get the orb to get past the barrier if you don't already have one, I died a few times due to Orcs turning around as I dropped invisible, but could always reraise. It's helpful to take someone who already has the orb to save you that step, but I would recommend going back at a later time and getting it incase you need to get past that gate at a future time.

Beaudeux is fairly easy to solo, with the exception of trying to get past Ruby (the rdm NM) in that first room. My recomendation is having a chainspell-escape macro ready so that you can run past, click the ???, and escape out quickly if you catch aggro. I luckly did not aggro Ruby on my way through, but that doesn't always happen.

Castle O I found to be the easiest part for some reason, I had one death there, but that was on purpose. Flee, Heremes Potion, or Powder Boots help, but are not actually required. I hit the torch, used a Hermes (thf sub wasn't leveled at the time) and trained all the Yags that aggro through the door with me. Make sure to have blink/stoneskin up, and pray that a blm yag doesn't bind you. Unfortunatly Erase is too high to sub at this point so if you are bound you are SOL.

I got through the door, died, waited for despawn and got up. You have to put in a 3 word passworld (the possible words are available on ffxi-atlas), but the password changes everyday. So if you decided to randomly guess words instead of running all over the place and getting the passwords from statues (which is what I do) make sure you are not near the end of the game day. Drop down and you are safe where you land.

The ??? in Castle O in up the ramps on that first platform you reach, and usually the High Priest NM is up there watching it. I was lucky enough to drop invis with them all turned around, get my crest and teleport out undetected. You again could escape or warp out.

Over all I was lucky with a total of three deaths while sololing LB3, but not necessary true for everyone. If you are going to splurge, a Skulkers Cape is a nice thing to have, it enhances sneak/invisible effect and makes them last a little longer. Less chance of you being detected, but is not required, I would bring sneaks/powders with you, especially sneaks for Beaudeux as you may be silenced from the mutes to get past the curse machines.

Personally when traveling through high aggro areas I prefer to be alone as opposed with someone, I just find it easier to have to only worry about my self being undetected as opposed to another person (especially one that doesn't have the spells invisible and sneak). But I do have fun helping groups of people through it.

My last LB2 run was a headache, but I got lots of good laughs out of it. As a 75Whm/37Nin I love pretending I'm a DD, but my whole plan whenever I do stuff is run through, aggro everything in thier way, and die. I did this in Davoi and everyone but the Drk ran past the ??? and off the cliff after it. So I was faced with a choice. Run them all the way around again, or have them die and have the drk tractor them up. I'm lazy and had the drk tractor them up, but they kept actually killing the mobs, and the ditsy rdm kept healing them, so it took a lot longer than needed.

                    Beaduex wasn't too bad, but castle O was a nightmare. We finally get everyone to the ??? and I engage the High Priest NM as the grab it. There were 7 of us total, and two were rdm/blm. One of the rdm was in the party with me, and the others in another party in an alliance. The first alliance gets it, and I tell them to escape, the other rdm gets it, then decided to help me out with the NM >.>;;

I tell her to warp, escape, did a couple <calls>, but she's ignoring me. So I tell her one last time I'm warping (I'm fighting this NM with a warp stick in hand), she ignores, I arrive safetly at my Home Point and she ask for us to tractor her -.-

Frustrating as hell, but I had quite a few good laughs that night about it. (I don't dislike this rdm, is actually a friend of mine, just I think she's a one of those crayons you use a lot and is a little dull from all the use ) So it can go either way, perfect solo or as a group, or horrible as a group or solo.

                      Re: LImit Break 3

Rdm having Chainspell-Escape or Warp can be a huge help here. I know when I did Castle O, I did with 3 friends, and it was a case of ES sleep the mobs, hit the ??? and CS Escape outta town.

As others have said, Castle O is the only really difficult part of this.

                        Re: LImit Break 3

                        Thanks for all the replies.

I DID read it, but obviously not the level part on the previous quest :p Why would I say I did read it, and then not? I have no reason to lie.

By the way, I really like the idea of aggroing everything and then dieing to RR. Might save a whole loads hassle trying to get through time and time again, only to keep dying time and time again (like my solo R5 run in Castle O)

Im the same though as Necro - I dont like to have to worry about baby sitting others through aggro zones. Thats why I am always going on about soloing things.

I think Im good to roll here though - Ill do Davoi and Beadueax, then grab a friend for Castle O - the THF flee and warp idea sounds really good. No deaths

EDIT: Just took a look at LB4, and by god, that really IS a joke?!?!?!

It's ridiculously simple, yes. You just need a handful of Kindred Seals and you're golden.

                              Well I would save the "Aggro everything on purpose and run like hell and die" technique till you are a 75 whm with Reraise3. Though I did this before RR3, I actually counted up the lost experience from one outing of helping a friend unlock cor and blu one night to be roughly 9000 experience >.>;;

With RR3 I'm losing like 2 fights worth of exp, and I always keep my exp capped, so no fear of losing my beloved pro/shell5 and devotion ^^

But no matter what, exp is the easiest thing to get in this game, so certainly don't be afraid of eating a few HPs to try out something. I once tried to see if I could aggro all of Beaucidine Glacier from the Pass to Fei'yin....I forgot my earth staff and barley made it to the outpost <.< But the looks I got of passerbys as a whm was running across the zone sleeping everything in sight was well worth it
