  • low rank but high lvls.

Ok so i have nin lvled to lvl 42 and war mnk thf and rmd all lvled to lvl 30. I'm still rank 2 and get a lot of flak for it. yeah so what i took a lil more time to lvl my wanted jobs to their respected lvls and neglected to do my rank missions. I bought my airship pass and my pass to Kazham becasue i had the gil. Am i lazy and stupid becasue of that?? When i'm walking thru jeuno or doing some missions or going from the tele point in Altepa i get a lot of /em points and laughs... -_-

yeah i can get my rank 5 in like 30 mins grinding the missions but i'd rather do more exciting quests around vanadiel...i dunno thats just me...but then again having a low rank is kinda like a underlvled sub job?? I'm Ron Burgandy?

Re: low rank but high lvls.

People like to think Rank still means something about their skill as a player. In truth, it means nothing about your skill as a player in EXP PTs or anything else. Any meaning it had to skill died early in the CoP days, it means nothing in regards to skill now - you can practically ride the coatails of 75s to get Rank 10.

However, neglecting missions does display a lack of initiative. To me it says, "I don't care about access to conquest gear or new areas." Rank Missions do have the agony of running around the world for alot for cutscenes, NM fights and BCNMs much like CoPs do, but Zilart and Aht'Urghan Missions are much more staight-forward.

Either way, you should take time from the EXP grind to stop and do these, its yet another way to progress your character and get a better picture of the story behind Vana'diel.

People like to know you've done this stuff so you have access to areas to help others or you can join a group to progress together. Having access to other areas also opens up EXP options to you and your parties, neglecting them can be a strain on your EXP options at various levels, especially high levels. Not to mention if you don't have Rank 6 at least, you can't (1) start Zilart Missions and (2) cannot enter Dynamis at 65+.

You're getting close to 50, so take some time out soon to complete some early rank missions. You may even want to start working on your early CoP Missions just so you don't have to go back and repurchase level 30 gear.

Re: low rank but high lvls.

There is a little bit of prejudice against people who are lower ranks, and some will even go as far as to assume that low rank but high level = gilseller. And although it's not right, any time I'm a party leader and looking for members, I'll go with the higher rank person first (unless the other guy has a comment ... comments are better than rank in many cases) because it's just kind of an unwritten rule that people with lower rank are well .... (forgive me) noobs.

I don't know how to explain it really. I definitely don't point and laugh at people for their rank, but I have noticed - from other people as well as myself - that if there's a rank 6 seeking and a rank 3 seeking, the rank 6 gets invited first. Even as far down as the Dunes I see this sort of discrimination, and some people won't even invite people without subjobs. In the dunes, and pretty much up through Kazham, I will invite pretty much anyone because you know parties are going to be shitty 8 times out of ten anyway, but once we get moving towards the Citadel or the Nest, I look a lot harder at who I invite.

I'm the other way around. I spent time doing a lot of quests, missions, and other fun stuff while letting my leveling take a backseat. I have LS members who started playing a year and a half after me who have leveled higher than me. I would say play the game and enjoy yourself the way you want to play. I just know that there is some kind of discrimination against low-ranked players, which of course isn't right but it's there.

I should add that I do try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and I've seen Rank 10s who were just awful, so it's not really even a valid stereotype anymore, but old habits die hard.

Re: low rank but high lvls.

I like the rank missions. Sure, the earlier ones are boring, but once you get up to the part where the storyline takes off (Rank 5) they get pretty good, and once you see the Zilart and Promathia content, you'll be into them pretty quickly. One thing to remember about Zilart, though, is that many of these missions are very long, so you'll want to get a good mission static group together before you start. Try not to have too much reliance on 75s, but remember that it's really nice to have one in your group--a lot of people grind to 75 without experiencing the storyline and then when they get to 75, they have to come back and do a lot of stuff. We did 5-1 with a group of four with levels 75, 70, 66, and 54 (all get capped to 50 at the BC, of course), ate floor once, and then got up and kicked butt the second round. After that, we found the Shadow Lord to be...too easy. We were expecting something more difficult than 5-1 (which is capped), but with levels uncapped it was a breeze. The Zilarts, even the lower ones, are of at least medium difficulty for 75s. Don't go too big--if you have a 75, you might want to count him/her as two players.

The story content is worthwhile--you're still in the rather dull initial missions.

Re: low rank but high lvls.

To me rank doesn't mean anything till you are Rank 7 and up, specially for Basty and Windy (which aren't as easy to get as Sandy missions),

Because there's no real reason to do Rank missions 7 and up unless you either like the story or are trying to get Ex Conquest gear, which says a lot about the player's character.

And even though you could've had a lot of help from high lvls to get there chances are you at least learned a thing of two while doing missions.

Players that just got a high rank because their friends told them to and let them leech are easy to spot so no worries about that.

So my point is... I dunno... maybe...

          Rank up you noob!

            Fetch quests are exciting?
I always thought the missions are much more interesting..
Just do your missions as soon as possible to have access to a lot other quests.

Re: low rank but high lvls.

Rank means absolutely squat in terms of skill. You can have a lvl 1 mule with Sky access and rank 10 due to how the Rank missions and Early Zilart are set up. In times when people can TP burn Kirin in less then 5 minutes, the older missions start becoming more of a joke in terms of difficulty. Having said that though, a higher rank shows that you might care more about playing the game as a game. It's not a measue of skill, as most of the actual rank missions are simple, but rather it's a sign of initiative showing that you do more then just level. Though it's certainly not a 100% measure of anything as someone could have a low rank due to a myriad of reasons.

I can certainly assure you it wouldn't take more then a day for you to get to rank five with the help of just a healer. Most of the missions up to rank 5 can be easily soloed and the rest can still be soloed, they'd just be a bit more difficult. I say grab a friend or two and just bust out the ranks, though easy they can be fun as they're a change from just lvling or farming.

Re: low rank but high lvls.

In the 40s-50s, I really don't pay much attention to it when I'm building a party. However, if I have two players to choose from with the same jobs and same basic info, I will typically talk to the higher ranked player first. Sure, like OMG said, they could very well have just ridden someone's coattails to get there, but they still showed enough dedication to do it. In the end though, I really don't think it usually has any bearing on the player at all. In fact, the inverse is often true. There have been many times where I've partied with a low ranked player and thought 'oh... that's why...' within about 5 minutes.

Can I watch you get a level 1 through Ifrit's Cauldron for ZM5? That would be so funny. Sneak/Invis last on level 1s for like 2 seconds. Even if you tried to tractor them through it, you'd still have to deal with bomb aggro after bomb aggro. Not to mention what happens if Ash Dragon is up.

There's no need for them to go thru IC. Have the mule run to the cliff in the jungle and die. Once the group gets thru, have them tractor the mule up to the ledge.

Actually you can't unlock the rank 5 mission until you are level 30 and the rank 6 mission, therefore Zilart, until 50. I tend to find search comments more useful than rank. I'd sooner look for a green dot on the search window than a little 10.
