But then it hit me...their is an item that gives +somthing archery, but before i seek 1 out i was just curious if this would "fool" the quest giver npc (cause i am wonderin if this would work with other weapons too) if i had this item and so my skill would be over 250?

My mate had the ws at lv72 so I'd imagine you can. Most descriptions for the quest say "Need 72 and at least 250 Skill" That doesnt really suggest you can't use items to boost your skill seens as it does still count as skill xD I would reccomend trying it, fairly sure it would work. You can always resell the item.

          1. your weapon skill must be of that minimum skill level or higher. minimum weapon skill levels can range from 230 to 250 depending on weapon. weapon skills exclusive to an job tend to have a 250 skill requirement; weaponskills that mages use tend to have a 230 skill requirement.
          2. only 1 ws quest can be active at an time. you can't get another quest until the one you are currently on is finished. you may deactivate a quest at anytime by talking to quest NPC, but it will reset the WS points.
          3. you must be at least level 71 on a job that has a skill level with that weapon and can use the trial weapon. certain weapons are job-exclusive (Asuran Fists can only be flagged as Monk main job).
          4. if you delevel to 70 while trying to do ws points, you must either regain level 71 or change to another level 71+ job that can use that weapon before finishing off the latents. if you delevel to 70 after the latent effects of trial weapon got worked off, you can still finish the quest and use the weaponskill.

            Re: Quested WS

ur "natural" skills in the weapon must be equal to or higher than the each weapons' designated skill lvl. thus, use of skill+ equipments or merits into the skill if u have another job at 75 won't "fool" the quest giving npc.

on the other hand, as long as ur "natural" skill meets the requirement and u r lvl is 71 or up, npc will give u a quest anyways, and this results in a possibly-not-intended "glitch." for instance, if u have DRK at lvl 68 and WAR at 71, and u have capped ur Scythe skill at 241 as DRK 68, it gets capped at 237 as WAR 71. but because ur "natural" skill exceeds 240, requirement for Spiral Hell, and that ur WAR is 71, the quest giving npc does give u a quest if u talk to him as WAR 71. note that talking to the npc as DRK 68 won't trigger the quest. but if u complete the quest as WAR 71, u can use Spiral Hell as DRK 68. (trial weapons r only lvl limited, and not skill limited to use.)

            btw,
            2. only 1 ws quest can be active at an time. you can't get another quest until the one you are currently on is finished.
although it is true that u can't get a WS quest while u r doing another, u can talk to the quest giving npc to deactivate it, thereby allowing u to undertake another one. but doing this resets everything u've done up to that point, thus u'll need 300 points from the scratch if u decide to do it again.

Thats crazy, Spiral Hell at 68 @.@ but... wouldn't you need 150+ to start the quest, not 140+?

yeah, i think that's what he meant.

and Onionsoilder, no, Spiral Hell requires only 240, not 250. required skill lvl's vary by weapons; it's either 230, 240, or 250.

btw, if u put 8 merit lvl's (+16 in skills) in Scythe skill as WAR or BST 75, and that u've completed Spiral Hell quest (BLM is excluded for this), u can use Spiral at DRK 65, not even 68. not to mention Cross Reaper can be used at 62 in that case.

but the question is, who'd spend a total of 21 merit points (8 merit lvl's into weapon skills) into Scythe skill? i guess nobody would
