  • The Early Bird Catches the Wyrm.

(Mods, feel free to move this to the right place, I couldn't find a BCNM/KSNM/ENM discussion.)

Yes, basically, this is the KSNM99 where you fight a Nidhogg/Tiamat type monster. It has about the same HP as Nidhogg, and flies up like Tiamat.

My LS did one of these last night. We've done the Chlevnik KSNM without too many problems. A meteor here and there wiped a PLD, but that was about it.

Has anyone done this that can give a good strategy?

My LS went in, and was doing quite well. Then the Wyrm was at about 35% health, and he used a move that wiped us. I believe it was called Flame Blast.

This was an AoE that hit everyone for about 800 DMG. That's also with Barfira. And most of the mages had stoneskin. The melees survived, but all the mages were one shotted.

I've heard a lot of things about this KSNM. Many say just do the Chlevnik BCNM, because it's easier. But we wanted a challenge. I've heard that you need to bring at least 3 RDM/DRKs. I've heard that this thing is not stunnable. I've been told you need a BRD in every party using Fire Carol.....lots of things.

Does anyone have a strategy for this KSNM that would help us deal with this AoE?

Have not tried it, and not sure I trust what little I've read about it.

Was the breath attack in the same vein as Ouryu's Ocher Blast? If so, there may not be much you can do about it other than wear lots of -magic damage and MDEF and do your best to keep Stoneskin up, or simply be out of range - survive the attack, Elemental Seal/Sleep II, recover, and then continue.

I also imagine that some of the new jobs will be useful in this respect; I can already see Blue Mages being extremely useful with their Diamondhide spell, and Corsairs can give substantial MP when in a party with a summoner.

Re: The Early Bird Catches the Wyrm.

Problem with the Wyrm is he can't be slept. :/

When he flies, his attack (the AOE) will hit the ENTIRE BCNM area. So there's no avoiding it.

I believe it's the same type of attack. But we haven't done Ouryu, due to lack of the proper combination of jobs being on who are that far in CoP. (Yes, I know that's sad, but the majority of use don't have enough kind of time to actually get CoP.) We're working on people getting CoP, but we're a smaller HNMLS, and not all the right jobs can be on at the right times. (Not to mention, we have many Singaporean players in our LS, so that makes us have to function with 2 very different timezones.)

Do Mistmelts affect him? I'm not that high a level... just thinking out loud in kinda the same way that lowbies pondered the Jailer Weapons question...

If they do - just drag him back to the ground and keep working him like a <insertrandompunhere+call1toannoytheparty>.

I was thinking of mistmelts also... They should work on all dragons.

No, Mistmelts do not work on him. This BCNM was added long before CoP. Basically, he's GOING to fly. I've been told it's 100% that he can be stunned. So I'm guessing my LS is going to attempt it again soon, but this time, we'll be using a Chainspell Stun ORDER.

If his breath attack has a long wind-up, then yes, you can probably fight him like Cerberus. Use RDM/DRKs to minimize your need to overstock on additional stunners, and keep him off your BLMs as much as possible.

The fight is going to be way too long for you to Chainspell-Stun him for the entire duration.

Yes, we know that. But we've been thinking, that since he only flies up at certain percents, (80%, 50%, and 35%) what we can do is keep him stunned, and use our RNGs to make skillchains, and have the BLM party -GA III his ass. We'll try again in a week or so, depending on if we can get somebody to offer up their seals, lol.

His flight pattern is preset? That might work. Still tricky, though, as you'd have to do enough damage to knock him down with the SC + MB, which means a miss from a RNG will ruin your whole plan.

Our RNGs rarely miss. Most people who play RNG now-a-days tend not to suck. Our RNGs still do upwards of 900-1000 DMG with their Sidewinder/Slug Shot to Kirin.

Most of our BLMs have close to capped Thunder and Elemental Magic Merits, so DMG isn't a problem there.

From what we've been told, it's around those percentages he flies. BUT, he WILL fly 2-3 times per BCNM.
