Bastok Quest Trouble >.<

I did several searches using different keywords, and I was unable to find anything that related to my problem.

Right now, I'm trying to do a bunch of quests so that when I get to level 27, I'll be all set to do my race gear quest. I figured I'd get some Bastok quests out of the way so that when my BLM gets to level 17, I'll be able to do the dezone quest, no fuss no muss.

Well, first off, I've been having an awful time finding a thorough quest list for Bastok. I've done all the quests that are suitable for my level from jonnyram, and I've compiled a small list of other Bastok quests from bits and pieces on this website. But that's not my biggest problem.

My big problem is, I can't even get two NPCs to offer me their quests. I did the first quest involving Elki, the one where you have to climb the hill and check the tombstone/monument thing. I know I completed it successfully, because Elki gave me pants when it was over. Now I can't get him to give me the other quest. I even tried going into Palborough and checking the tool box, but nothing happened. Then I tried going back to talk to him, and still nothing happened. Out of desperation, I decided to try talking to the other guy (Babunn? something like that..) that you're supposed to talk to when the quest is over. You guessed it. Nothing. The jonnyram list says that the only requirement is having completed the other quest. Is there another requirement, perhaps added in a later patch?

The other NPC I can't get to give me his quest is Black Mud. I figured going to Dangruf Wadi and filling a water container sounded easy enough, especially since I can just cast invisible on myself and run through the goblins (heh) ..But I've talked and talked and talked to him, and he won't give me anything. All the text that comes up on the screen is grey, no green, no blue. Is there something else I need to do before talking to HIM to get the quest?

At first I thought maybe I screwed something up and I just can't get any more quests now, maybe I had something open that needed to be finished or something. But the only open quest I have is a San D'oria quest that I've had open for weeks now which hasn't affected anything else until now. Plus I've been able to get other quests since then..Just not these two.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chances are you do not have enough fame in bastok or fame altogether to recieve those quests just now. If a person gives more than one quest in the game it isn't always likely that the first one will be the requirement for accepting the second one.

Here is what I did.

I got jonnyrams complete list, including the ones still not translated and went and talked to every person that gives a quest. Then after that if i couldn't figure out the JP(because i don't speak to well and the JP dictionary i have doesn't contain a lot of the words used in FFXI(no surprise)) I took a screen shot of the quest log of each of those quests and posted them here for translation for some genorous soul to help me out. You know what it worked(Thx to Bebetaro).

Try and do all the already translated quests from jonnyram that you can including those from San d'Oria and Windurst. That should give me enough time to gather all the info that I need to post the quests on this website that I had translated so everyone can use them and not just myself and those who i share them with in-game. If I was still on Ramuh I would help you out but I currently reside on Ragnarok.

Hey Sharm, you pretty much need more fame. I had the same problems as you on those quests when I tried them. Try asking the NPC later as you get more quests done. Some "might" have level or Rank requirements but I'm not sure. Just get as many as you can get done easily in Bastok, then move onto other cities. Btw, if you get to 30, doing Advanced Jobs also count as quests and can change your fame. Bard and Ranger can be done solo without fighting, Beastmaster - just need one of us higher levels to kill the Kraken guarding it. Paladin - need sneak/invisi and a high level fighter for Orcs and the slime near the well. Dark - easy but tedious. Check if you can do Teleport Quest for Sandoria. Oh, also Moghouse Exit Expansion adds four more quests, and are easy. Just buy the flowers cheap in AH or Upper Jeuno M&P's Market.

There's also the Monuments quest in Selbina for the Crawlers Nest Map. Go to the Mayors office in Selbina at the back, receive a clay from the old guy. In almost every region, there is a Stone Monument - trade the clay to it and you get back a tablet. Return it to the old guy and get a new clay and some money in return. They don't count as individual quests, but you get money and Crawlers Nest Map will come in handy later. Keep the clay with you at all times. The ones that you can access easily are in W Ronf, LT, Jugner, Konschtat, S Gustaberg, and Buburimu. There's a listing somewhere, I'll post the link in the Ramuh forum ^^
