  • Bastok (Rank 8-9 missions)

I'm sort of slacking off on mission hunting. So, I decided to fall in with a dedicated group of Bastokans who're trying to obtain Rank 10.

For the next set of missions (8-1 through god knows how many) exactly how much time did this take (to obtain Rank 9) and exactly what was the strength of your party/alliance when you completed this?

Reason why I'm asking is that this group also includes low 60s, possibly even high 50s (I wouldn't know, this weekend will be my first time with the group) I'm not sure just how successful they've been up to this point or if they've adopted a buddy system approach (Placing a couple of lower levels with 70+ players for the BC fights, for example) I guess I shouldn't complain, seeing how none of my previous LS members were interested in helping me with obtaining Rank 10, even though most of them were in the 70s and were Bastokans >.>

Anywho, I know the first fight involves 3 or 4 NM Anticans in the Quick Sand caves. Guess order of the day is a lot of silent oils, a few prism powders and a stack of echo drops >.> I better not die ... I'm precariously hanging on to 72 with 214 exp w

    Re: Bastok (Rank 8-9 missions)

Lets see, I finished up my Bastok Missions awhile ago, but here is what I remember:

8-1: Pt of upper 60s (67+) should be fine. Our rdm and blm had no problems keeping the anticans asleep. I know none of us were 70 yet because none of us had even tried Maat.

8-2: I think we had 8-12 people for his, while the 6 of us were the same lvl, our allies were higher. Biggest problem we had was pulling the ghosts 1 at a time. I could get them just fine, but when we killed one and I went to get the others, they had depopped. Unlike my guide said, touching the ??? again did not give us the item. I had to repop and we pulled 1 at a time again but went faster and I would pull another before the first was dead. Killing all 3 gave us our item.

We did rank 8 in the course of a morning during a LAN, I don’t imagine it will take more than a few hours if you have people ready to go.

9-1: My party was 70+ and so were our allies. I really recommend an alliance here, at least 12, more if you can. If people don’t know the proper way to fight the slimes, mass death will ensue. Thankfully, we all knew what was up and only had problems at the end when someone got blood agro, but nothing major. This mission can be a real stumbling block and is probably the hardest one you have left.

9-2: Again my pt was lvl 70+ and we actually fought with 2 whms (only 5 in my LS now, and one whm had free time after we beat 9-1) Battle was pretty easy, we made 1 mistake first run and had a skillchain pulled off on our pld, who died and then we went down afterwards. Once we knew what to look for, we won with few problems.

Again, though these were done at a later date, didn’t take us more than a few hours to do with people pre-notified on where to meet and when.

    Hope this helps

      Re: Bastok (Rank 8-9 missions)

Thank you Battle Angel. I'm particularly worried about some of these players (The lower 60s) and not sure just how much postiive impact they're going to make for the upper 70s. I just pray there's enough healing and tanking to go around, or this might not go too well.

Did 8-1 involve a capped BC fight or can an alliance complete it? As for the ghosties, we probably can kill fast enough if there's a WHM that can debuff with Banish III. Otherwise, the fights will be too long and that would suck (Need to remember to bring Holy Water)

8-1 is an uncapped BC, however its a max of 6 people allowed.

          Re: Bastok (Rank 8-9 missions)

Okay, just got through with 8-1 and 8-2.

Battle Angel, 8-1 is uncapped and anyone can help. Basically, you go to QS and through one of the weight-gates, you clear out a room and fight 3 Antican NMs (BLM, PLD and WAR) We did this with an alliance. Then you touch the ??? to receive a cutscene. This was G-6 in West Altepa Desert, btw.

You go to the lower left hand corner of West Altepa Desert after and through another series of weight-gates, you click on another ??? and get another cutscene. From there, you go back to Bastok to finish up.

8-2 involves ghost killing. It's in Kuftal Tunnel and you spawn the 3 ghosts in the Haunt Room. However, prior to that, you touch the ??? on the ledge that overhangs the Haunt Room. You get a key item (All members must do this!) Then, have someone sneak pop the Ghosts. You only need to kill one of the three (Gordov) and the best way we came up with is having a 75 THF snag Gordov and Flee the train of haunts and robber crabs to zone (They'll conveniently depop) while the tank waits a little above to voke on Gordov and bring it to the party above. We did this in alliance and was piece of cake.

You'll need WHMs for cursna or instruct your melee participants to bring along holy water (You only need it at the end of the fight) After the fight, run down (sneaked up of course) and touch the ??? to activate the cutscene.

There's two ??? in the Haunt Room. The one furthest in is not the one you should touch (That's to pop Cancer)

Head back to Bastok to get an awesomely long cutscene, 60,000 Gil (or was it 80,000) and Rank 9. Pretty good stuff.

Going to work on getting Rank 10 next week.

That's what I said >.>; Anyway, good to hear you pounded those out. You've only got 9-1 to really worry about and then you're home free, rank 10! Bastokan Aketon ftw! Bastok Pride ^^

Having done all the missions of all three cities, I have to say that Bastok 9-1 is the hardest of them all, hands down. Since you're fighting a bunch of slimes, melee is next to worthless. If you don't have heavy nuking power, things will go to hell in a handbasket very quickly.
              All Nations: Rank 10
              Rise of the Zilart: Complete
              Chains of Promathia: Complete
              75 BRD/75 WHM/75 BLM/75 MNK/75 RDM/57 DRK/40 THF/39 WAR/37 NIN & SMN/All the rest < 37

              What to level next? (DRK!)

Is it like the Slime NM for the Jelly Ring? Cause ... yah ... that's gonna hurt major. T_T

Im not sure how the slime on the jelly ring works, but for 9-1 you start off popping 1 slime, this then spilits into 2 slimes . In turn, each of these 2 slimes split into 2 (or 4) slimes. Its quite tricky. Melee w/provoke are useful to help keep slimes off any mages. Even as a whm I cast Holy, banish III and whatever else I had

That's interesting. BTW, that static stalled out and they're doing Sky for now (I already got my access completed months ago) so I'll have to wait for another week or so before they talk about completing the rest of the missions.

Oh and I did have a question with regards to the slime NM(s). Each time they split, do they get weaker or do they retain the same strength of the original?

                      Re: Bastok (Rank 8-9 missions)

As I recall (I've done all the city missions as well), and Bastok 9-1 definitely requires mages in large quantities. Melees are virtual bystanders in this fight except for attempting to hold attention off the mages.

As I remember, the individual slimes that split off are a bit weaker than their larger counterparts, but still strong enough to easily toast a black mage if left unchecked. Their physical resistance is outrageous - the BC very much resembles a Jelly Ring fight, only with multiple enemies.

                        Holy ... crap.

If you look at (nation) job makeup ... you'd think Bastok has the fewest mages of the three countries. With that being said, I think that was evil for SE to think up this fight for Bastok's 9-1. Sadists, I tell you! Sadists!

Sadly and true to form, the group of Bastokian players that I do see in upper ranks comprise mostly of melees. Popular Bastokan melees that are on our server include: NIN, DRK, WAR and MNK. Mages that I see a lot of are WHM and RDM. That's ... Bastok for you. >_< All the BLMs are in Windurst. LOL ....

Actually I think Bastok 9-1 isn't a BC come to think of it, it takes place in Gustav Tunnel.

Just get some of your Windurstian mage friends to come nuke the bejeezus out of it and you should be OK.

(oh, and if you think this is unfair, wait till you see Windurst 9-2. Requires 2 tanks to have a good shot at winning, and Windurst has exactly how many tanks again? - and that one IS a citizen-restricted BC)
