Yes, the rank 1 mission 'Bat Hunt' for San d'Oria. I've done this before, so I know you're supposed to get the orcish scale mail piece from the ding bats in king rampere's tomb.

The very first mission, killing orcs for an Orcish Axe, was easy enough that I kept finding orcish axes. After I finished that mission, I would keep accepting it and just handing an axe I already found over to the temple knight for rank points.

I happened upon some more of those scales for the Bat Hunt, but when I accepted the mission for the second time in San d'Oria, and handed the scales to the knight, he said he didn't want it.

    !

I asked a higher ranking player and they said that sometimes you have to have a different item.

I went back to the tomb and killed ding bats... never found any item of note, not even the old scales.

I thought perhaps I should go deeper in, so I went farther into the tomb and killed other bats, and then eventually anything I could find.

I found a rampere's chest key, but that wasn't the right item, either.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for or what to kill, but I've now been stuck on this Bat Hunt thing for several days.

I'm nearing level 25, and I want to form a party to advance to rank 3 before I get level 26.

    What am I doing wrong?

hmm.. that mission you need to check a tomb stone don't you? I don't know what the guard will tell you if you're repeating it but maybe you'll have to check again?

Yes you have to check the tombstone, the first time. When you do it the first time you do the mission it gives you a cutscene. When I check it now (I thought possibly I needed to do it again), it just makes you say "Rest in peace, King Rampere", with no cutscene, and it does not affect the outcome.

You probably just need to drop the scales and get new ones, if your in possesion of the old scales no new ones will drop as they are rare/ex and you can only hold one or are you saying youve also tried this?

Yes right when they didn't work I knew I needed to drop them. I got rid of those scales and no new ones have dropped.

I could keep trying, it's just that it's been a very long time. The first time I found them I got them very quickly.

When you do "bat hunt" a second time, you don't even need to go to KRT.

You don't need to farm Orcish Scales.

All you need to do is trade him a bat fang like he asks you to.

The first time you do it, he wants Orcish Scales. Any subsequent time you accept this mission, he asks for a Bat Fang. Read what the NPC says, you'll notice it.

A trick for Sandy, if you need to up your rank points, don't trade the NPC crystals. Stand at the Mission NPC, accept the mission, trade him a bat fang and TADA, mission is completed. If you do a full stack of bat fangs, it is usually enough to up your rank points to open the next mission for you.

Save your gil San d'Oria, trade in cheap bat fangs for rank points.

do rank points mean anything once you've reached rank 10? they dont add to conquest points do they? it's sorta pointless to have a rank point meter once you've hit rank 10 then wouldn't it?

                      Test it and find out.

The point of raising your rank points is to open up your next mission... if you're still opening up missions, then it's obvious the player is not Rank 10. The general consensus spouted by most people is that you MUST trade in crystals to get your next mission. Bat fangs are much cheaper and it's repeatable, common sense should prevail but it doesn't always seem to work that way.

Agreed, Also if your just looking to get more rank pts to open more missions, it seems like just about every orcish fodder I kill wants to drop the orcish axe. so you can simply repeat the first quest again and again.

i am rank 10. i was asking if there was some other point to having rank points that i am not aware of. i do not currently see any reason to accumlate more rank points after you hit rank 10 but they however still allow you to gain more points even when you are rank 10. the little meter bar is still there and all.

I'd assume that you'd need them for later in the game, as the story progresses.
You know how when you rank up, an animation pops up on you that Goes "Rank x!"
Currently, in the game, there are these congratulatory animations that go up to "Rank 15!", but they're not being used yet.
