  • CoP Mission 4-2 BC Help me Out!

    I am not sure how many people have gotten to this point in the CoP mission, but for those of you who have gotten to this dragon, you realize that this dragon is no joke. When he is on the ground, our Nin can tank him and take 0 damage, but as soon as the Dragon takes flight, its all over. How do you deal with the Dragon's flight?? I heard pre patch a Bard could sleep the dragon while he is in the air, but since the most recent patch, that is no longer an option (at least from what I have read, we have yet to have a bard come with us for this mission).

    I know we could win this pretty easily with a team of blms or rngs, but that is not an option for us, so we need to find another way to beat him. I heard that there is an item that you can get from a quest that allows you to drag the dragon back to the ground, but had little to no information on how to get it.

    If anyone knows from personal experience how to beat him or knows somewhere else on the web with information on how to beat him, please help me out.

    Facts on it:

    Bard can't sleep it- not resisted, but it wears off immediatly no matter what, as if Dia were on it.
    BLM can, but it's very short duration.

    He does a WS "Takeoff" as soon as he starts flying, does about 200 to each party member.

    While in the air he shoots fireballs that do 200 dmg to single target and go through Utsusemi.

    When he lands he does another WS called "Touchdown" for 200 dmg each.

    He has some other ws called "Bia Wing" that does 200-500 dmg to everyone.

    And to top it off, it's all capped at level 50, and everyones max HP is like 600-800ish.

    The only thing we've been able to think of is Ranger x3 spamming stun bullets, 1 nin tank because he hits far too hard to physically tank with pld, 1 smn to spam Earthen Ward to try to counter aoe ws's, and a whm/rdm to heal/enfeeble.

    I really can't think of any other party that could do that other than what I said. There's no way to really deal with it when it takes off, nothing works on it and after taking off it's a matter of seconds before he compeltely kills everyone with fireballs.

    Gotta be some kind of item to stop him from flying..

        hint: you only need to get Ouryu to 40% hp to finish the BC.

          When I went with my PT and won it, we generally decided a ninja tanker with utsusemi just dies too quickly. We had a Paladin instead to take the damage in a single spot while it is flying without kiting it around, so our mages can concentrate on curing it full-time. When it lands on the ground, sleep/lullaby it for a while then sleep2 it to prolong the sleep period while everyone rest to restore HP/MP. My pt is lucky to have someone using a Cure Earring enhancement to conserve MP! We rinse and repeat the above until Ouryu had about 50% HP, and our BLM opens Mana Seal and use Freeze to finish it off.

          This strategy worked for us 1st time round after we changed to this method. We died 3 times with the gravity marathoning.

            Sleeping him while on land and nuking like mad while midair seems like the best thing post-patch (when I beat it he could be lullabied mid-air, making it an easy mission). Just fyi Damastus' plan will most likely not work -- Ouryu is an earth element Wyrm, making him highly resistant to stun (stun did absolutely nothing when I tried it as well).
