You need to be LV 30 to do the advance job quests. knight is an advanced job. To become a Dark Knight, you need to kill 100 monsters with a very heavy and slow 2 handed sword. For this, u need to be a Warrior. It would make the quest easier if you have leveled up your Warrior.
RDM 75, BLM 73, WHM 42, SMN 41, RNG 40, NIN 37, DRK 37, THF 25, WAR 20
you CAN do it with a level 1 warrior after you've levelled your monk to 30. It's just gonna take a buttload of time. Then again, you could level war as a subjob (recommended), which helps. It would take a buttload of time anyways due to the ungodly crappiness of the sword, and the delay set between battles. The way I've found best to do this was to link a number of monsters all together with whm sub dia or blm sub poison, whatever doesn't do a lot of damage and gets things pissed at you (in south gust, of course ), then kill them off and let the targeting autoswitch. This way, you wouldn't have to worry the between-battle delay. Of course, if your war is level 1, this may be fairly hazardous. Then again, your sub wouldn't be able to do much luring at level 1 anyways.
well, when i did it with warrior. i didnt do it every single hit with that freakin sword.
i use my fist and smack the monster down to a very low HP, and i put my sword back and gave those weak monter a final strike. which makes it much faster.
and for DRK, is not 100% require that you need to sub warrior. Lately, im subbing it with THF, pretty fun.... Those Darkness + backstab + WS ww. effects are very similar to THF WS
also can help you get more TPs. But then.. i had to waste all my time raise that low THF to 30 a while ago because i want to switch sub job ><
for LV 60 DRK/30 THF, theres also a single blow WS that hits more then 1000 ww.
ww, well, there is two ways to use darkness as DRK/THF.
1st: Activate Darkness before <your weapon hits the monster>.
That way it will not taunt the monster.
2nd: If you did hit the monster. Then darkness will 100% taunt.
But, as long as you do not use <Darkness+ Last Resort>
Darkness can still be easily taunt off by your teammates
so , you can tell your teammates to taunt after you use JA
Darkness. However, if your WS goes in 2nd place or 3rd
place during renkei. After you use darkness, although it
turns the monster to you, but your teammates WS will
make it go to your teammates. (but, remember after you use darkness, stop attacking the monster until is your turn to go with WS in renkei. Because if you keep attacking with darkness, although your teammates taunt it off from you with taunt or WS, your power(of doing like 100 points dmg per hit) will taunt the monster back to you.
and that, is the way to use DRK/THF, there are also other DRK/THF around the world. But im not sure how they use their DRK/THF. That's just my personal way to use it.
Since im still at a very beginner at DRK/THF <less then 10 PTs with it>. I still need a lot of practice.
Best PT formation is 3 fighters, 2 Mage, and a BRD. (one of the fighter is a THF) and this is a post on DRK/THF way to use it in this kind of PT formation.
Continue from todays PT experience.
Now, today, i was kinda worry how the PT would turn out, 3 fighters. DRK/THF, PLD, THF, WHM, WHM, BRD
since only the PLD can really taunt. At the beginning, it was terrible, WS misses the target(from the paladin). And a lot of other stupid mistakes happened.
So, i decide to not save my Darkness, last resort , and weapon bash for emergency taunt purpose. So i use darkness+ last resort to taunt monster to me first and use WS (because im 1st of renkei) and made the monster super stable at me. then wait for PLD to hit WS and THF to go, after WS goes back to PLD due to super attack done by THF. i use back stab with darkness and last resort thats still in effect to make another near 300 damage.
This, is the way to use DRK/THF when your in a PT with 3 fighters.
if you have 4 fighters, you can use the last post i made as the way to to use DRK/THF. But when you got 3 fighters and
only PLD taunts and THF/WAR only taunts for emergency. Use this post i made as the way to use DRK/THF <if your going DRK/THF...> i was kind of worried that monster would run back and forth a lot due to 2 taunters only. but i guess im pretty wrong ww.
since my phsyical attacks keeps enemy pretty stable <hatred strong enough to make it hit me sometimes>...
some people might said DRK sucks when they dont sub WAR, but to me DRK/THF is pretty good. It helps you a lot on the gaining TP part^^. afterall... DRK 2h weapon do misses alot. especially in totetote fights.
well. sorry for my longsome post... is kinda boring eh ww.
But i think DRK/THF. This is what you really need to know, read this two post i made and you probably know how to use it.
EDIT: dont wanna make another reply w.
But, if your DRK60/THF30, convince your PT to let you use Scythe LV200 WS and do the legendary single go WS w/o being in renkei for 1000 and upper damage is pretty good ww. Then, let the other 2 fighters do 2 hit renkei. i think the overall damage will be even higher w.
P.S. although DRK/THF can be use ones backstab as sub job is usable <which is LV 30> but i prefer you starting subbing it around near 40 if you want to. Because the JA takes time to heal. And starting LV 40s. Your teammates needs more time to heal on MP. and you have more time to heal your JAs.(meaning the JAs refresh time)
Hmm, recently i've actually found darkness to be more useful outside of renkei... Now when I use WS i just last resort to get the hate long enough for thef to fuidama, maybe berserk just for the heck of it. Darkness lets you deal like 125% MORE damage than your normal swing for the cost 10% of your remaining HP. Just activate it somewhere in the second half of a battle where you're not going to use renkei, and see large chunks fly out of the monster's HP whenever you swing
Also, if you have blood weapon active, darkness kind of overrides it, so you can't leech hit when you deal super high damage
Anyways... I'm on the second half of the DRK quest now. I know it's just a level 5 sword... But still. An unwieldy piece of steel is taking up my mog space when it could be a couple thousand gils in my pocket. Anyone got info on this? Zeid told me to meet him "where we met last time" in his letter... Does he mean beadeaux? What do I do after that?
Well little Awntawn.... When you got your full AF set including the head part you wouldnt want to use Darkness like you use now cuz you gonna die fast due to your body turn into a dry paper towel....
Darkness with AF head sort of takes near half of your HP.... cuz it doubles the effect of darkness... right now you can use darkness like that but if you use darkness with the AF head you gonna die in 30 sec. or less lol

Subbing theif on dark is not worth it until you are lv60 dark because you get both sneak attack and deceiving attack. Until then, just the sneak attack doesn't compensate for the added amount of damage you lose from not subbing warrior. Every hit you make is much more damage than if you were theif, and it adds up to more than the minor amount of damage you can only do once a minute with sneak attack. Once you're 60 of course, you can use both, and subbing theif at 60 is common among all classes, not just dark, because everyone can do huidama. But you should always have warrior sub available so you can be versatile, if you are not, it will cost you parties.
Remember, sometimes added damage in parties isn't necessary. The renkei is usually more important and I've never been in a party where dark makes the final WS (the one that counts to determine the LV2 combo damage). Darks are usually openers (not important; LV1 combo damage is minimal and often does not match weakness of enemy), or second from last (opens LV2 combo; but does not count in determining damage), or out of the WS all together (just added damage; no combo bonus). So the damage you do on renkei techincally isn't even relevant (If anyone knows of a renkei that dark closes that causes kakunetsu or wannkyoku, I'd like to know). If you want to do the single ws move, consider that your party might need you more as a taunter and ask them.

You know you spend more time playing from level 1 to 59 than you do while level 60? Us who don't have a lot of time to play, that is. I know you don't (like me ><). Everyone's like picking classes for AF and all, playing styles for AF... AF is a prize for AFTER you've played a lot, not "finally I'm 60 so I can start playing"
