For all those DRKs that want to save some(10,000-15,000) gils by doing the Drain quest, here's a little guide to help you.
Spell info:
name - Drain
mana - 21mp
lvl req - lvl 10 drk
description- Drains HP from monster
cost - from 20,000-25,000 gils
What you need:
10,000 gils (I spent around 8,000)
* This quest is available in Sandoria.
* You need to be able to go into the Chateau. (you need to be on mission 2 w/ rank 2 or rank 3+)
* Sandorian fame is needed to obtain the quest.
If you're like me and you're not from Sandoria(I'm from Bastok), you'll need to complete some quests to raise your fame.
I had ZERO fame when I arrived in Sandoria so if you follow these steps, you should be able to do the quest.
If you're from Sandoria and you have some fame in town, good for you.
Here are couple EASY(meaning, you don't have to leave the town to complete) quests you can do to start off -
* These quest steps are from http://ffxi.allakhazam.com
=========================================
Exit the Gambler
=========================================
Speak with Aurege(F3 of Northern San d'Oria (next to the water and stacked wood outside the carpentrs guild downstairs)) in North San d'Oria he will explain his problem and tell you that he needs to speak with Varchet.
Varchet(L6) can be found in San d'Oria South near the fountain in the NE corner.
Speak with Varchet and he will agree to help you only if you win against him gambling. Gamble with him until you win. Once you do, return to Aurege and receive your reward.
=========================================
Father and Son (part of PALADIN unlock)
=========================================
Speak with young Ailbeche(the boy is in the parade square of north sandoria) who has lost his father and needs you to find him.
You can find his father in South San d'Oria in the weapon shop and his name is Exorche.
Speak with him and then bring word back to Ailbeche of his father and receive the fishing rod.
Give the fishing rod (or any Willow Fishing Rod, not necessarily the one you get from the father) to the son to get the title.
=========================================
Rosel the Armorer
=========================================
Speak with Rosel in Southern San d'Oria in the armor shop.
He will ask you to deliver a reciept to one of the princes in the castle.
After he hands you the reciept take it to the castle in North San d'Oria and speak with the guard named Guilerme (or maybe any guard). He will ask you the name of the prince you are suppose to deliver the reciept to. Just choose the correct prince and then return to Rosel and receive your reward. But make sure to remember the prince's name, for you get a lower reward for the incorrect prince name.
Here are some additional in-town quests that you can do (I did not), to raise additional fame and save some gils on buying items for repeatable quests. (explained below)
=========================================
A Taste For Meat
=========================================
First talk to Antreneau and then Thierride in the pub at G-7. He wants you to bring him 5 pieces of hare meat. These drop from Wild Rabbits and Forest Hares in Ronfaure. Bring the 5 pieces back to Thierride for 150 gil and then talk to Antreneau and he will give you a Grilled Wild Hare.

The Brugaire Consortium
=========================================
Fontoumant is located in Cargo Room B, at H-9 on your map. He needs you to make some deliveries for you.
1. Regine in the Magic Shop
2. Apstaule by the Auction House.
3. Thierrida in the bar.
Complete these deliveries and he rewards you with a Luan Shield.
=========================================
Fear of the Dark (repeatable)
=========================================
Speak with Secodiand(E-6), who is looking out over the deck at F-6 in North San d'Oria. He will ask you to bring him 2 Bat Wings which are dropped by any type of bat.
So head out into Ronfaure or King Ranperre's Tomb, kill a few, and return to him the 2 wings he requests.
---
Ok. So you've done some quests but you don't have enough fame to obtain the Drain quest yet.
In order to check your fame, goto the pub(east on the map) in South Sandoria and talk to the NPC on the left side when you enter.
If he says "I've never heard of you before", that means you have no fame. If he says "I think I've heard your name before somewhere", that means you have some fame, but not enough. When he says "Oh I know you or People talk about you, etc" that's when you have enough fame to obtain the Drain quest.
After completing some of the above quests, you need to raise the additional fame by doing "repeatable quests".
Here are the 2 repeatable quests I did.
You can buy the items at the AH. When you goto the AH, also buy the Beastmen's Blood. This is the item you need to complete the Drain quest.
12 flints = 700-750 gils
12 rabbit hides = 900 gils
=========================================
Starting a Flame (Repeatable)
=========================================
Speak with Legata in Southern San d'Oria in the Pub and he will ask you to bring him 4 flints.
=========================================
The Merchant's Bidding (Repeatable)
=========================================
Speak with Parvipon in South San d'Oria outside the general item shop.
He will ask for you to return to him some rabbit hides (3 of them).
---
After using about 8 stacks of flints and 6-7 stacks of rabbit hides, I had enough fame.
What you do is buy 4 stacks of flints & rabbit hides at a time and repeat the above two quests while checking your fame at the pub.
Once you have enough fame, enter the castle in North Sandoria and go in the door to the right. Go down the hall and down the stairs to the dungeon. Go straight and make a right and you will see Novalmauge walking around. Talk to him to obtain the quest and after the cut scene, trade him the Beastman's Blood for your scroll of Drain.
In total, I spent about 7,500-8,000 gils for a 20,000-25,000k gils.
1,500 beastmen's blood at AH
400/stack x 8 stacks flint stones (you get some gils back after each repeatable quest completed)
400/stack x 7 stacks of rabbit hides (same as above)
Estimated Total = 7,500 gils.
Goodluck.
