Our party consist of 2 Lv60 WAR, 1 Lv58 DRK, 1 Lv60 BLM, 1 Lv58(?) BRD, and 1 Lv60 WHM

Some advices for WHMs doing M12:
- Bring Yagudo drinks and/or Ethers! As a WHM mage with over 700MP, I still completely used up all my MP before SL's first form died, even with the support of ballad1+ballad2 and MP regen from Yagudo drink (with me being the sole healer in the PARTY). I used my 2hr ability (goddess bless) right before the end of first form (since I have no MP and SL has reduced everybody's HP to yellow with an area spell).

- Bring 1 silence oil. Everyone uses one and fully healed before second form.

- For SL second form, be prepare to repeatedly cast Curaga, since SL will be using area attacks mainly. I alternated between Curaga1 and Curaga2 to avoid the spell recharge time. SL was dead before I used up my MP for the second time.

- SL first form is tougher compared to the second form because it will alternate between complete physical-resist and magic resist, depending on it's HP status. A BLM is vital here.

Thats odd, my party had an even lower leveled taru whm doing all the curing and he didnt even need the yagudo drinks or ethers he bought. Far was bard though, and had ballads on us.

Sounds like whoever is tanking didnt run around during invincible mode to avoid attacks while the BLM casts their spell. Mages should also stand at the steps, because they would never get hit.

Sneak spell can be used instead of silent oil btw.

I drank 1 Yagudo drink right before the battle began. I don't know whether it was needed or not. But since I'm the only WHM, I'm responsible for the whole party's safety. So better to be safe than sorry. 1-2k gil for a Yagudo drink is such a small price to pay for a safe Rank6 trip. Turns out that was the only one consumed by me.

Me and Hika were standing at the stairs. We decided against the running around method to avoid taunting confusion. Cain did an excellent job of grabbing all the hate so I only have to heal one person mainly. SL did turn to me once but was immediately taunted away with one single taunt. SL's physical resist state was quickly shot down by Hika's magics.

I used Goddess Bless when I see my party was in danger from a SL spell and SL was close to dying. I trusted that my party would dispose of SL before I ran into any kind of danger.

We brought silence oil so everyone could have sneak on immediately right after SL first form. Again 1k gil is a small price to pay.

But I would say the deciding factor is definitely BRD.
Without BRD front liners would definitely need to bring several hi-potions for safety measures, same goes for mages with drinks/ethers.

I don't see why there would be much confusion if the PT talked about the strategy before fighting the shadow lord. As you said, one person should be the main focus of the fight, so naturally that person would be the guy who runs around with Shadow Lord

But then, not doing that is not really a big problem either. Especially because SL would be in a stable condition (not moving around) so there's no chance that SL goes out of range of the ancient magics.

I have found out in my couple of fights against Shadow Lord that Bard's 2h ability "Soul Voice" is much better off being used in SL's first form. Then cast ballad 1+2 on mages and attack up or march1 + march2 on the fighters. If he does it, the mages' health should not go down at all

And in the 2nd form of SL, it's better to have everybody fight together and use multiple curaga instead. Because the MP would be used more efficiently this way.
