  • Selbina quest: 根性試し from Devean

I discovered this quest through another topic here. The general gist is, Devean wants you to find ‚Ç?ª?«ƒTƒ“ƒ_ƒ‹ from a "Jar" in Davoi. You gamble some gil and you say how quickly you can do it, and if you do it in that time, you get extra money back.

You have to give the sandals back to Devean when you do it, so if you want to actually use them, I advise you only bet the smallest amount

Anyway, I'm making this thread to try and collect the Jar positions. The "Jar" target seems to pop randomly around Davoi. In some guides I have read it only pops in the village areas, but I'm not sure if that's true.

I found it once and failed another time. The place I found it was the village area in the bottom right of the map, around the top left of K10 (see this map

If you have done this quest before, or are doing it soon, please post where you find the Jar.

Don't know the pos but from Japanese websites that I checked, it says that the sandals are always in a jar standing alone and not in a group.

    But I haven't witnessed it myself so I can't tell for sure.

OK, I'll try and make it more explicit about the sandals.

This quest is repeatable. You go to Davoi, you find the sandals in a jar and you give them to Devean to get your reward (if you're on time). If you want to KEEP the sandals, bet the smallest amount possible and choose the longest time (to give yourself space). Since you are keeping the sandals, just don't go back to Devean and you should be able to wear them as much as you want.

I basically wanted to do this quest as much as possible to earn money. It is said if you are a 38WHM with BLM sub, you can do this quest in 15 mins, thus raising 12k an hour. But I tried to do last night. 2 mins after accepting the quest, my ISP went down and when I got back on I only had 30 mins to finish the quest. I couldn't find the Jar in that time and I lost 1000g. I can probably do it twice an hour max, but that's way better (read more reliable) than money-making schemes I've tried before.

You bet how much time it will take you to bring the sandals back.
You choose between 100, 250, 500, 1000, 5000 gil. The faster you bring it back, the bigger the win.

Time limit is 24hrs, 36hrs, 48hrs, 60hrs, 72hrs. If you bring it back in 24hrs you get your bet x3 but if you only get it within 72hrs its x1.2. (This is ripped off from http://www.elfu.com/FFXI-top.html)

That's why Jonnyram suggests the smallest bet if you plan to keep the sandals.

EDIT: Did more checking around. Apparently the bet money was changed in a patch a bit back so like others here say, there isn't a 5000 gil choice.

I've tried it twice and it didn't offer me 5000gil either time. Maybe it's related to rank?

They do pop randomly in the different orcish camps. Gant and I found one in the housing area with all the lv60+ orcish, and another in a camp to the east.

Yeah, forget this... I've tried and failed twice in the past two days. It must have been in the difficult camp in the middle because I searched everywhere for it. I did come out with a Lizard Piercer thanks to a nice passer-by who saved me from an NM! But for me, this quest is on the back-burner.

I have a suspicion the Jar is like a treasure chest and won't move until someone uses it. That would make it totally pointless for me to continue at this point. Speaking of which, I found the treasure chest twice. Any idea if I can solo the key-dropping monsters at 48?

I am positive that the jar moves only when someone touches it, just like the teleport quest ??? spots, and treasure chests/coffers. So it very well could be in the most dangerous area of davoi.....waiting....and waiting for someone brave enough to go and touch it.

I would not suggest trying to solo the orcish that drop the keys as they do link and can be difficult even though they may be raku. I would suggest a higher lvl or someone to hunt with. Good luck Jonnyram!

                      I have a question:

Does this go onto quest log? There seems to be many different variations, so it could be three things, not going onto quest log, all the money rates being a different quest, or just completing any of the different rates being one single quest on the quest log.

                      Can someone verify which?

                        Oh, I see my name!

The quest does appear on your quest log, no matter how much you bet.
The jar does only move when someone touches it. I do think it only pops in the village areas.
I don't think betting 5000 is an option.
The tricky part is, most often you will find it at the village area where zerker/warchief reside. Those Orcs aggro lv65 and once you rid of your invisible you are dead meat.

BTW Jonny, I'm still trying to find you in Mingol. :spin:

Yeah, I think that may have been in originally because a ton of sites list it, but I'm sure Square would have taken it out by now if people were making too much money with it.

I got over it already There I was thinking this would be a fantastic way to make cash, but if it's gonna be in the middle all the time, there's no way I can do it. I think you've got to de-invisi to hit the Elevator Lever right? I went down to the far south-west area, where I got RDM AF1, and the zerkers/warchiefs live, but it was not there. There is another really tough bit in the middle that I am talking about.

Oops, not played it for a while... I'll get on it in the next few days. Sorry. What's your nickname on there?
