  • JP Region Abyssea?

Hi there. I'm returning after about 5 years and have a Japanese account. I have no problem with registering keys and all that, I had to do that for years when I was running an endgame shell. The problem I'm having is figuring out a way to get my hands on a Japanese regional copy of the Abyssea collection. I have vanilla through wings activated, but I'm missing the first 3 mini episodes(Mog/Shantoto/Prophecy) and the 3 Abyssea updates. I've spent the last few hours trying to figure out a way to get a JP region digital download going, but it's starting to look like I would need a VPN tunnel to Japan set up just to be able to purchase a product key to activate the new content.

Basically, the language is not an issue. I have a very basic understanding of kata/hira/kanji so I can get through the menus and activate my keys through POL(though I think you have to activate through the SE account site now). The problem is that the simplest way to get the new content seems to be digital download, however said digital content seems to be locked down very hard by region, considering I do not have a Japanese IP address and I need product keys fro the JP version.

Has anyone else out there had any experience with trying to get product keys for the 6 mini expansions or have any idea on what I can do?

    Re: JP Region Abyssea?

Have a friend in Japan with a Steam account gift it to you. I had to do the opposite for ElmerThePointy to get him Portal2 when that came out. Otherwise you need a JP IP address via a proxy server. Otherwise you can just manually buy the individual Abyssea and add-on codes for about 1,000 yen each in the SquareEnix Account Management page, since Abyssea is already installed for anyone who is completely patched. That's how we originally got them before the collections were released.

SE has really gone to extreme measures to make it hard to even retain a JP account, since they don't accept non-Japanese payment options anymore, and WebMoney only has one source to get it in countries outside of Japan that I can find, SuToCorp, at a high markup plus the bad currency conversion with the value of the yen. BTW, WebMoney has to be converted to Crysta first, and you can only do that if you register a Japanese mailing address to your SquareEnix Account. I don't know how to type those anymore since ping took down the guide I used to register on JP PS2 back in 2002, after the NA release of the game happened.

I lost the ability to pay for my account with the new billing changes last year, for 8 months. I fought JP support and got them to relink my JP POL ID to an American SquareEnix Account, and now I am paying the American fee and can use American registration codes. They said it was something they'd only ever do once, but I got through it with help from Elmer.

I'm on Ragnarok too, as Bungiefan. Currently in FellowTravelers. You can contact Sealdorie for a pearl if you need.
