Former dedicated FFXI player wants to return!

Hey everyone, just came from watching youtube videos of FFXI after hearing about some of the changes and new things put in the game. Watching people play it has made me want to get back in. I started when it was first released on the PS2 then started over when it was released on the 360. Played up till just after the wings of the goddess expansion then stopped and sold my xbox.

My question is if I were to acquire a xbox would I be able to re-activate my character and play from where I left off? Would I have to get my old 360 account info that I don't remember?

Save yourself some headache and just get it for the PC. It's cheaper and you can use Windower.

True its better but also cost a lot more. I want to know before I even invest if my character will still be around you know?

No it doesn't. It's like twenty bucks on Steam. You're talking about purchasing an entire console just to play this again, oh and good luck hunting down discs for the 360 that are cheaper than Steam.

There is a character reactivation service, so you can likely pick up where you left off. That said, I don't know anything about it since I've never had to use it myself.

I'm saying it would (I imagine) be more expensive to buy a computer to run this. Its either a computer or a 360 as I have neither, just an old laptop. Still have my FFXI wings of the godess, and original FFXI 360 discs. Would just have to re-buy the expansions online no?

What're the specs on your laptop? There's a good chance it's capable of running FFXI now and you wouldn't need to purchase a new machine at all (FFXI really isn't a terribly demanding game). That is of course assuming you aren't opposed to playing on your laptop or just plain old prefer to play on a big screen in your living room sitting on the couch with a controller in hand.

It'd run it. FFXI isn't particularly resource intensive.

It also depends on what graphics hardware it has and if it's runing windows XP or Vista/7. Either way, it may be a good idea to increase the amount of ram if the laptop can support more.

My old desktop had less than that, and it ran it fine. But then again, I was on XP.

amazon.com has ff11: ultimate abyssea download edition on sale for 9.99 every few weeks. It was just that price a few days ago for the third time in the past couple months. That includes 1 month of subscription playtime and all the expansions available.

You can, it's just a huge pain. Make sure you have the most current disc, otherwise you may run into issues with the expanded services. Unless you have the original gamertag, you will have to unlink your POL account from that gamertag via SEA help desk, which is terrible btw. It seems that the support for this game as a whole is god awful. I also recently returned, on xbox usually due to the freedom and ease of casual playing.
