Coming back after four years, where to go??

Hey all after playing alot of mmo's that quickly died out on me, i decided to start fresh again,

Anyone have suggestions on servers with
Good pop/ linkshells that help returning players?? I mainly played BRD/WHM, but wanna try the newer jobs, please hit me up!!

I just started back on Valefor and fell in with a pretty good ls very quickly. It seems like there's a huge wave of players returning to ffxi right now. If you end up on Valefor, feel free to hit me up. Name is Carnap.

(1) Move to Windurst. The Tarutaru are overlords of all Vana'diell after having slain the Goddess Altana and becoming a race of gods. They burned down San'doria and Bastok... well... it was a slum before so they just left it as is.

If you move to Windurst you may at the very least be assigned as a personal assistant to their catgirl enforcers. Choose any other nation and you will be a slave working in the mines of Bastok for all time.

(2) Do not expect people to have grown smarter or wiser in the ways of FFXI, just more spoiled on high end content and having lost all grasp on how they got to that point years ago. In other words, business as usual. Summoners haven't gotten better at roleplaying, either, so just blacklist every one you see with a /say macro.

(3) CoP Missions and zones have had level caps removed, but before you rejoice please refer to #2 and count on the fact someone can still likely blow the airship and pot fights for you, especially if they are Dancers who are great for soloing and still terrible for everything else.

(4) Corsair has surpassed Bard, but anything that required actual thought could. Given that excludes Samurai, Warrior, Monk, Thief and Blue Mage, being a Bard still isn't that bad of a deal. Scholars, White and Red Mages still require the most actual thought, but count on plenty of RDMs still wanting to be boneheads that swing swords. Again, business as usual.

(5) Don't get to cozy with whatever server you joined, by March there will likely be another world merger unless FFXIV decides to cease heading in the positive direction its started to move in recently. Expect news from the directors to have plans to put FFXI on smartphones and watch that not happen.

(6) Please refer to SE's job update manifesto - in which RDMs and SMNs alike are already again getting their hopes up to become more awesome than they never were. Everyone else will maintain realistic expectations, such as Rangers getting more pointless anti-enmity additions and Paladins getting their shields replaced with large syrupy waffles.

Thief gave up hope long ago, White Mage and Scholar will just get more awesome and Black Mage... well, given they just like blowing shit up they're not exactly what I'd call hard to please, so some new spell that hurts things always and something that saves them some MP always seems to do the trick.

(7) As for guilds, you will be certain to find several that still think quotes from 300 and the original Portal haven't gone out of style and spend their spare time browsing/trolling 4chan. I personally recommend a social linkshell as that's where the only sanity in the game really is, but that's what I said before I quit the game almost two years ago.

I actually went to Cerberus and joined Squiggs LS, lvling as seemed to be a bit easier for the most part, the hat i got helps alot as well.. hopefully i get to see some of the high end content, thx all!

Hey guys, I'm Murphie posting in thread to be my usual callous self since I have nothing to of real substance to add to FFXI threads and no concept of parody, either, but I might at least get Mhurron to respond to me. Did it work?

At the very least, I kept the thread going and it someone posting got a pearl. Am I doing forums right?

I could just hype up a game in the video game section and go mew mew mew, but someone else has that job. I could rage about Mega Man and Bobby Kotick, but someone has that job. I could be awesome with math, but someone has that job. Being passively bitter and driving female users off the forum with insensitivity is your job and I don't want to take your job from you. That would be mean.

My job is essentially not shutting the fuck up about video games. Business as usual.

FFXI is a video game. I played for five years and know things, especially regarding human nature and MMORPGs. I gotta do something with that psych minor, might as well be snarky.
