Returning Player to Valefor

Hi there! I've recently decided to return to FFXI after a -long- hiatus. I played at release for about 2 years and gave it up. Having read up on the changes that have taken place, it looks like a great experience to be part of now.

I'll be creating on Valefor - are there any newbie/new-player friendly LS currently accepting members? I've heard good things about Yygdrasil's group (perhaps he could respond to this thread!)

Oh, one more question for you guys. I've been looking around while at work, but can you refer me to any helpful guides on optimizing graphics performance? I use a good machine, but due to the age of the game, it still looks pretty god-awful.

I've heard about windower, and also there's a way to go into the registry to enhance performance. I'd love to run on 1440-900 res if possible.

Any guides out there that I should be checking out?

Alrighty - all set with setting up the game. I'll be creating when I get home from work this afternoon. Whom should I look for as far as sack-holders? (Man, that's probably the first time I've typed that in my life.)
