What do all these add'ons do?!

Last time I played this game was back in September 2009. I remember some addons came out at the time but they had no appeal to me, as my highest level job is 32PLD. I see now that there are several addons available, and I have no idea what I would get out of purchasing them.

3 add-on scenarios:

• A Crystalline Prophecyâ„¢ — Ode of Life Bestowing
• A Moogle Kupo d'Etatâ„¢ — Evil in Small Doses
• A Shantotto Ascensionâ„¢ — The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born

So what do you get from these? I see I can just buy a license for the "Ultimate" edition and get them all for $10 which doesn't seem bad, but what's the point? I've also seen once upon a time Steam had this on sale. Should I hold off?

Then there's this.. Abyssea stuff. I understand that is basically all the game is now. I've heard a lot of mixed reactions on whether you should leech or not. So knowing that my highest job is 32PLD, should I even bother until I'm higher?

Also, there are three different Abyssea addons. What's the difference? If I only wanted one to start, which should I get and what would I be missing out on by not getting the others? Or do you think Square-Enix will release a "Super-Ultimate" edition that includes these too?

This game is a bit overwhelming for a player that is far behind the "curve". Really I just want to level up to a point that I can enjoy most of the "Mission" (story) content of the game.

The 3 mini expansions you mentioned are useless. They were fun to play for their story... and at the time they had some nifty augmentable rewards... but now they're useless. The only purpose that they serve in EG now is the Abyssite that can be Fabricated from their memories.

I guess that requires a bit of an explination, huh? Ok... so in Abyssea, you can inbue yourself with these things called Atma's. You unlock the ability to equip them by collecting certain KI form various missions, NMs and quests. In total... you can have 3 on at once. Atmas themselves are aquired in several ways... by killing NMs who drop them... completing missions that reward you with them... or by fabricating them from memories (see: completed quests from other parts of the game). The fabricated ones become available for you to buy if you meet certain requirements. Theres one that can be made for each of those 3 mini expansions... if you have completed them in their entirety. I hope that's clear enough. If you want more info on anything I just said... check the ffxi wiki page for info on the NPC "Atma Fabricant".

Unless you want those 3 atmas... don't bother with the 3 expansions. It's unlikely that you'll manage to find a party of people willing to do the fights with you anyway. Everyone is dedicated to Abyssea right now.

As far as Abyssea is concerned in accordance to your lvl32 PLD... you can technically enter the zones... although you wont be able to do anything besides leech experience. The min level for entry is lvl30.

As far as what expansions to buy and when... each of the 3 corresponds to 3 Abyssea zones. Visions is T. Canyon, L. Plateau and K. Highlands. Scars is for Vunk. Inlet, Attowah and Mis. Coast. Heros is the last expansion and it's for Grauberg, U. Range and Altepa.

It really doesnt matter which one is purchased first... but I would suggest getting them in order that they were released. VISIONS -> SCARS -> HEROS. Honestly... you wont need to bother with any of them until you're a little higher level.

If you're only after the mission content... you're in luck. Many of the missions have had their level caps removed. A lot of the missions that were a ot of trouble for people in the past... are miserably easy now that you can walk in at any level and beat down the enemies you're facing.

I don't know what server you play on, but if the option of moving your character to another server is in the cards, I run a Linkshell for new and returning players on Valefor server. We're about 40 members strong right now and would be more than happy to help you re-learn all the things you've missed out on.

Of course... if paying the 25$ fee to move your character is not an option for you... you're honestly not that high a level and could probably re-roll a new one on Valefor to join up with us. We have a wealth of knowledge among our members and i'm sure you can benefit from what we can help you with.

Geez Yyg…I wouldn’t say their useless. Im sure for most jobs, the need for that gear is few and far between...if there is any need.

But the Moogle one is borderline a MUST for Bst to get -100%pdt (in abyssea). Some other jobs can still benefit from them. Pup (and Bst again) can benefit with the pet stats on the body you can put on. As for a PLD…I doubt they’re worth it though. But I’m no pld so I can’t speak for them.

I highly suggest you take Yyg up on this offer for a couple reasons. Lvl 32, even on a job that you can’t unlock till an original job is 30, will not take you very long. There are also VERY few people these days willing to help lower level people out. He’s got a LS dedicated to it…it’s probably in your best interested.

Geez Yyg…I wouldn’t say their useless. Im sure for most jobs, the need for that gear is few and far between...if there is any need.

I call them useless simply because of the money/effort required in finshing any of them. Hell, I'm at the final battle for all 3 and I cant manage to find anyone willing to do them with me... let alone help me from the beginning. I'm sure that the pieces still have thier uses... but as you said... few and far between. I'm weighing the benefits against the disbenefits TBH. I don't think it's really worth the effort to dredge through them when the rewards are minimal and circumstantial.

If BST or PUP are in his future, then I would suggest he speak to you in greater detail about the benefits of the gear that the mini expansions have to offer. Besides that, I just don't feel its worth the hassle.

You're right though... I was a bit quick to judge.

But yeah, if I'm going to spend $25 for anything, it'd probably be the expansions. I'm still a bit "on the fence" on whether I want to play seriously or not, and I'd rather not start again at level 1.

So let's pretend I don't do Abyssea and stick to traditional partying. What's the most efficient way to get decent gear as I level? Auction house isn't that reliable for low level gear these days it seems..

Not reliable at all, in fact. Due to the massive flux of endgame gear available from Abyssea... combined with the ability to leech from lvl 30 all the way to 90 without any gear at all... makes people feel that it's pointless to craft mid-level gear... or bother to put it on the AH at all.

Your best bet is to befriend a number of people who are wiling to help you aquire mid-level gear either via BCNMs, questing... or by crafting if they have ranks in it. All in all... it's actually quite hard to get started again.

I do urge you to reconsider re-rolling on Valefor. Due to the new rate of EXP gain that was released with one of the more recent updates... it really only takes about a week of playing to get where your character currently is. I wouldn't suggest that you transfer servers really... it's simply not worth the 25$ to move a character who's only level 32.

For example... one of our members, Lovelyss... got from level 1 to level 56 in a traditional party setting with the help of our LS and a little bit of work. He's not level 90 and almost fully merited from what I can tell... on DRG... a job he had to unlock. It took him roughly a month and a half... if I have my dates correct.

Ultimately the choice is yours. If the LS on Diabolos doesn't work out, the offer stands if you would like to re-roll on Valefor.

There really isn't. You can run a mule to jueno to see if there's anything listed there, but otherwise, it's what you can find off NPCs (this includes quests) and the local AHs (having a mule in each nation is tremendously useful).
