Considering coming back

I'm considering coming back to FFXI but I'm not sure if it's really worth it. My background with the game so far is only to about level 20 or so. I did see that there was a recent update that increase XP, is it a very noticeable increase? I remember getting 100xp on an Even Match mob at low level, what's it like now?

Also, do I need to purchase all 3 of the Abyssea expansions? From what I can find in the PlayOnline viewer I can only purchase Heroes.

Are the servers still fairly active (particularly at low levels)? I can imagine they're still relatively active, considering how inactive FFXIV servers are. In the same idea, what's the most friendly server for somebody starting a new character?

I also don't have too much time to play, usually only 2-3 hours a day, except for weekends. Will this affect me negatively? I know I used to not be able to get much done in that time.

Let's see. Experience got a huge boost. Its very noticable. Yes you should get all 3 expansions. I don't remember how exactly to navigate to those options on the pol viewer. The servers are still full. If you come to valefor... I run a la for new and returning players. The link to information about it can be found in my signature below. And lastly... those are the.same hours I get to play and I manage to run a successful la... so yeah. You should be fine. Let me know if you start fresh and pick valefor as a server.

Is it possible to go without the Abyssea content for some time? I hear the content doesn't start until you're 30, with most of it being higher levels. With the XP boost it does sound more promising than it used to be. The biggest factor would be whether or not I need to buy the Abyssea content immediately, or at a later point.

you definately do not need it immediately. especially if you decide to join us in my ls... we have many members who will level with you throughout all the beginning levels. You wont need to bother wig abysses for weeks... if not months.

There is no low level Abyssea content. Anyone going in to Abyssea below about 70 is doing nothing but leeching.

Thanks for the answers. I think I might start up a new character in the next few days, and since it sounds like a good place to start I'll do it on Valefor.

Okay, I was considering reactivating today but I can't find a straight answer about whether they'd bill me today or May 1. Anybody know which it would be? I'm also seeing some stories of people getting charge for the previous month when activating on the first. Anybody know if these are true?

if you REACTIVATE after today's reg server maintenance, then you will be charged on May 1st for April and May.

I know it all depends on the exact day you activate and weather it's BEFORE or AFTER the billing cycle. I dont remember when the billing goes through, but the ideal day to activate is the day AFTER billing happens. That way you avoid being billed for the month you activate in.

You're actually lucky though. Due to the earthquake/wall-o-water that hit japan resulting in the servers going down for just over a week. SE told us that the month of April, we will not be billed. If you activate within this month, you shouldn't see a bill until may. No double month bills if you activate from within April.

SE told us that the month of April, we will not be billed.

I did see that, but I believe that was only for people who were billed for March. I did see that they'd only charge after the registration maintenance, but with the maintenance being two phases I'm not sure which one I'd have to get the ID after to not be charged.

EDIT: Okay, just read the maintenance notice again and I can't activate a Content ID between the two phases. Tomorrow it is then.

This is correct. You will not get April free because you were not billed for March.
