FFXI veteran wants to return home.

Hello everybody, i think the title says it all really, after spending five years in Vana'diel with my girlfriend we finally parted ways and i left Vana'diel n search olf adventure elsewhere, i moved from MMO to MMO maxing characters on the way but none of them seemed too satisfy and i always missed Vana'diel with a passion.

Well now i have a lot of free time on my hands and i'm thinking of coming home, iv'e read a lot of posts about server populations and new game mechanics and easier leveling, but i'm still undecided, my previous account is sadly gone along with the girlfriend (goodbye 75 WHM, SAM, NIN, BLKM, BLM, PM and Alice ) so it will be a brand new start.

A few questions if you'll indulge me,

Which server has the highest population at the moment? the reason i'm asking is that i still have two friends on Unicorn but they are thinking about quitting as the population is "non existant"

Has crafting been overhauled?

What's the situation with RMT'S?

Are there any known problems with the Steam version?

And if anybody has a welcoming and friendly LS then please by all means let me know, tho i am from the UK so please take time zones into account.

I just restarted playing myself so I can answer a few of those questions from experience.

All the servers have much lower populations than in the past, some still more populated than others. FFXIAH has a decent estimate on it somewhere. Unicorn however is one of the servers slated for merger so character creation is suspended on it until Tuesday.

Uhh crafting is still the same. There is synergy but hell if I know what that is.

To the best of my knowledge, RMT is no longer a problem. Most if not all of the best gear is rare/ex made by collecting other rare/ex. The pace of the game is faster too. Popping and killing NMs in the new Abyssea zones takes no time at all (Did 4 pop and kills of the same NM in <1 hour last night) There are also talks of reworking NMs outside of Abyssea as well. Exp per kill on normal mobs EM and down has been upped dramatically too.

And I cannot comment on the steam version, I just Dled the Ultimate collection.

I know Yygdrasil has an LS for returning players on Valefor, but every time I search for him he is isn't on...no loves for the gobo.

what Gobo said pretty much, I just came back myself after realizing how much work FFXIV still needs... I love the game but hell, I can not bring myself to play it right now. Depending on how you left off, it might take a bit to get used to everything again. I am just now starting to get my gear sorted out again. (Thank god I wrote that stuff down in a notebook)

I can not wait to experience the game again though, with all the changes, most of my "beefs" with the game are almost gone.

I tried XIV myself and to be honest with you i hated it right from the start, i know deep down there is probably a good game trying to get out, but it's just not there at the moment.

I don't think any other MMO can replace FFXI for gameplay (love the difficulty) and community, it's the people i miss most about XI, the game brings people together unlike any other MMO out there and iv'e been through them all now. Well i guess i won't be going back to Unicorn as it's scheduled for a merger with Fenrir so i'll wait out the big changes that are coming and decide after March 16th.

Each server is about the same I'd have to say... but Gobo is correct that it's less than in the past. Still vibrant but less. And the population focus is in Jeuno due to the newest content.

Crafting is the same pain in the ass it always was as far as I can tell. They've added Synergy but (again with Gobo) idk wtf that is.

If you buy the Steam version Gabe Newell will magically pop out of your computer and tell you that you're doing everything all wrong and in the same breath exclaim just how much he loves what you are doing. (1)
