Returning to ff XI. Have some questions

Hi, I'm currently returning to FFXI after not having played in a number of years. Been planning to join asura since it apparently has the best population right now. i've been researching some of the features added to the game like exp updates and other things apparently making it easier to level up. I just have a couple questions.

Has the game handle solo lvling any better now? In the past it was always start in your starting area and move out towards the dunes and so on. I enjoy party play quite a bit so i wouldn't really mind if its the same way.

I saw that they developed a system so that higher lvl players could party with lower lvl players and the party could still gain xp. Do alot of people actually take advantage of this? I guess i'm just a little afraid of being able to find groups.

how fast does one lvl up in this game these days?

You level at breakneck speed with the exp patch they put in just last week. Also there are little books with lists of monsters to kill for bonus exp that help speed things up.

Your fears regarding Level Sync are totally unfounded. It is used for pretty much every exp party on your way up. You'll definitely be able to find groups to party it up with. The game is fairly top heavy at this point so invites will probably still be slow, but exp parties are far from dead.
