  • Returning to Ragnarok :)

    Yeah folks, I'm getting back into the game. I purchased the ultimate edition (includes everything but abyssea which i plan to get later on) off of steam for 10€ (about 15$ i think).

    A great deal. I wouldve spent more than that just going to my parents' house to get my discs, hah.

    I had to go through the process of retrieving my POL ID which i had no idea what it was anymore, or the password, took me 15 minutes to get everything back through the chat support. Everyone complains about support but I've never had any problems with them, i've retrieved my account info in very little time and i remember a while ago i had to get a friend's account for him because he had weird work hours that made it tough for him to get in touch with someone through the chat. But I digress.

    Anyway, my RDM is 75, my BLM is 75 too and I remember being on BST74 when I "quit".

    I doubt anyone from my ls is still playing but atleast my best friend is coming back aswell and that alone is enough for me to get back to the game.

    So anyway. I left the game at the time they were launching the Mog mazes that you can "build".

    For someone that is coming back after a year or so... what should I get into first? leveling up my subs and mains is a given, and ill probably be spamming dynamis now that its "easier" to get stuff there, but other than that im pretty lost... after dynamis i think ill do assaults for those yummy gear sets, past that i have no clue what to do, im hoping to join some linkshell to help me get back on track, so if anyone is on EU timezone and would kindly open a spot for me, that'd be nice.

    And before anyone asks... yeah, im not getting into FF14 until atleast PS3 launch. Until then i really need some MMORPG fix, and im getting bored to the brim of F2P games.

      Should I skip relic and toau gear sets though? ... no point in bothering if they were to head directly into the storage...

        Duelist's Chapeau is still worth getting.

            It's perfectly reasonable to do Dynamis with group size of 8-9 if you have skillful players with the right jobs. (I'm sure the elite endgame people will claim they can do with far fewer, etc.)

            As to whether you should skip Dynamis armor, that's a harder question. Not sure about BLM, but the Fast Cast on RDM's body hasn't been replaced (unless you count augment?), neither has the Auto Refresh effect of the hat has been replaced. Even the not much talked about hands slot has Magic Def. Bonus +2, making it decent for the idling set.

            Do you need those armor to be an effective RDM, though? Probably not. It's not unreasonable at this point to skip the Relic set for the Empyrean +1/2 set, which you'd want whether you have the Relic set or not.

            * * *

            Dynamis or Empyrean, don't expect things to be ultra fast. If you have a very competent group dedicating a good chunk of its time to you, yes, you can get both in short order. But if your Dynamis group is large and tries to rotate through all zones, or if your Abyssea group is fairly but slowly getting everyone their share of gear, it can take some time.

            Hero of Abyssea is out, and I still don't have a single Empyrean +2 from Scars. Heck, I only have two +1's, though I can complete two more if I find time in-game to get some Resistant Credits.

            yet not a mote of dust is stirred;

            leaving no trace in the water.
