FF11 + windows 7 = i'm going crazy

Hello everyone!
I don't post something since... well it's been three years now, because I stopped playing FF11 due to drama crap. I had to stop playing in order to avoid drama (very funny...).
Also, when someone hacked my account in the period of July, I lost all my friends, my friendlist is really clear now, so I am a level 75 who is starting again (I feel sofucking lonely lol).

Anyway, in September I changed PC, I bought something new thinking that this computer I have now would run FF14 perfectly.
Well, not only I don't run FF14 properly, but I sincerely don't like the game.
So I started missing FF11. (in reality I never stopped liking FF11, that game was a part of my life for 4-5 years now)
Tried to install it... no way. FF11 doesn't work on windows 7.
I visited the playonline website, downloaded the Playonline patch for windows 7, installed Playonline, installed the game... no good, the game doesn't work.

So my question is: is someone actually playing FF11 on windows 7?
If so please, please, enlighten me!
I miss the game, but I just can't figure out how to play it on windows 7 without losing my mind!

I really hope you guys can help me, otherwise I don't think I'll be able to play FF11 again.

Thank you SE, for scrapping the DX9 client update project in favor of a crappy new MMO that nobody even bothers to complain about anymore.

I played FFXI on windows 7 perfectly fine, but yes..... we need a little more info other then "it does not work" ;p

Isn't there a different version of POL that needs to be used for Vista and 7?

Have it working with no problems on Windows 7 on both my PC and laptop. You will however need to force windows to disable driver signing and run XBCD if you want to use a 360 pad to play this on Win 7.

EDIT: The Widows Vista POL client has different regions. Make sure that you are using the EU client rather the the US client. (Note that the steam version gives you access to both. Make sure that you make a shortcut to the EU config and EU POL launchers if you do use steam.)

or just plug in a PS3 controller, if you plug in an Wired PS3 controller or a wirless PS3 controller connected with a USB cable, windows 7 picks it right up and you can use it as is.

Windows 7 picks up pretty much any game pad.

FFXI, however won't always do that without the right drivers.

the reason why FFXI does not play well with default 360 driver is due to the trigger buttons, but windows sees them all as buttons by default in W7, thats what I was getting at

Damn sometimes I feel I am the only one getting this problem lol.

Does it make any sense since the game IS installed?

by patch I guess you mean the Vista/7 compatable version of POL.

go in this order, remove everything first,

POL > update > FFXI > update > ??? > Profit

make sure that UAC is off, or that yo uahve admin rights for all of this.

To clarify what Kailea said here. Right click on the icon for POL and then go to the Compatibility tab and at the bottom of that panel, select "Run as an Administrator". When you double click on this icon to start POL you should get one of those annoying messages about whether or not you want to run as an administrator and you can just click yes. It may ask you for a password if you have several accounts setup for that PC (for various family members)

I am administrator, but this "professionality" of windows 7 is annoying, it asks me a confirm for everything lol.

Your order is off, this runs the risk of POL not 'recognizing FFXI is installed. The order the expansions are installed also matters.

POL (If you have the Ultimate Collection that includes Wings of the Goddess, you don't need to download POL, use the one on the disk)

I'll try both stuff Mhurron, hoping one of the two will work.
I already tried to combination Kailea gave me (weeks ago) and it didn't work.
I'll try again, I have time. (and desire to play the game again).
I don't have the ultimate collection, I have like... the third edition of the game, FFXI+Zilart+Promathia. Yes, old stuff lol
