    Want to come back after who knows how many years

    Hey, I played FFXI a LOOONG time ago, and now I got a sudden urge to come back. Been playing WoW on and off since ~05-06ish and played FFXI before that. Its become way too easy and unrewarding for my taste with everyone running around in epics from the minute they hit 80. Anyway, I originally had FFXI for the ps2 but I don't have a ps2 anymore, and had bought the 07 collection once when I planned to come back but didn't stay for more than a month because of RL stuff. But now, I seem to have lost the install disc. Would I be better off just buying the ultimate collection?

    Any server that is more new-player friendly? And do warriors still start out with swords instead of axes?

    You might be better off buying the Ultimate Collection (though personally, I'm holding out for an Ultimate Collection 2 with Abyssea).

    There is no specific server that is "new-player friendly." Your best bet is just finding a server with your friends on it, and joining them.

    Yes, starting Warriors still start out with that worthless Sword, and are still better off upgrading to a Great Axe ASAP. Shield Break is stupidly amazing until the middle levels. Though, keeping your Axe skill skilled up as well isn't a bad idea.

      Oh when is that set to come out? If its coming out before October I might wait for it, but if not Ill probably just go buy the collection. Then again, is there any guarantee that they will bundle it into a pack soon/right away? And will it offer any kind of content that a low level will be able to take advantage of? The more I think about it the more Im thinking Ill just go out and buy it right now.

        What, an Ultimate Collection 2? That's entirely pure speculation on my part, and even then I don't think that anything the likes of it won't ever be seen until around December, some time after Heroes of Abyssea comes out.

        And aside, Abyssea itself is pretty much entirely endgame content, so I don't think it will be something that you would be concerned about right away.

          After four years of playing this game, beating cop, toau, and Roz with two characters and leveling a bunch of jobs to 75 Se decided to ban me. I didn't really care, things were heating up in real life, and a bunch of my friends quit so, for a year I went without, but recently I purchased the game again and decided to start all over. If I can make it past the Credit card information process, which I have been trying for 2 days.

              I too have been gone for years and have just returned. I purchased the ultimate collection my self for the 360 last week. Im on the "Leviathin server" and actually found players from my old LS i ran still there playing. I rejoined there new LS and am getting a lot of refresher help.. this is a very good Server and LS. If you like let me know and I will help as much as I can.

                Im installing the game now. Any help would be appreciated All my old friends are either long gone, or even if theyre still there I dont remember their names!

                    This...is awesome ^^ I'm seeing these threads all over and it makes me happy ^^ I won't say it's gonna be easy, FFXI was never for the faint of heart, but once you get a few jobs to 30ish and get some required questing done, you'll find that with all the nice benefits to experience points parties you'll be breaking 75+ rather quickly...

                    Also for any new players, this site has some experienced players, and we'll help you out ^^ alot of your questions are probably addressed in previous threads, so doing a little searching will help us all out, but if you come up empty handed feel free to ask.

                        This is actually the reason I'm coming back I played WoW for a long time and I really enjoyed it at first, but it's gotten so ridiculously easy that its no fun anymore. I miss the days of vanilla WoW where you had to gear up in blues to go into raids to get epics, instead of being basically handed an epic set when you turn 80 that is better than half the raids they put out a few months before. I need a challenge!

                        Well I finally got through POL... and now have 8 hours of updates They really couldn't put any of this stuff onto the disc??? Guess I'll choose a character and server tomorrow
