  • Returning player very disappointed

    So could after a couple years without playing i decided to try and get my old account back and active. No way to find account info though, email changed and dont even remember login name. no way to get this back...support is no help. So i go and buy the game again and now you need not only credit card but a bank account where the bank accepts the security feature.


    This is a complete pain in the ass and wasted money and time - only to find out ill have to pay even more money to play the damn game. By the time it gets down to it the free month is nearly up and they are getting you for a monthly fee already. They really need a new payment option or atleast have it printed on the retail box somewhere the you will need to go through extended lengths just to play.

    Or maybe you could do your research ahead of time before jumping into something dont you think? This feature was implemented some time ago and was documented on these forums.

          If your bank isn't using security measures that are there to protect against fraud I recommend you find a bank that does.

              That's not always entirely easy, and changing banks entirely because of a fucking video game is very stupid. I get that it's like crack to some people (I was in that boat once myself so don't get offended) but I wasn't going to make a huge change in my banking situation or in my credit just to play this game.

              And for the record, I've been using Visa a very long time and FFXI was the first time I ever ran into the Verified by Visa thing, so it's really not that commonly used enough for someone to just go and switch banks to accommodate for it. And really, it hasn't been that long since SE changed it. It was about a month after I quit, so August-ish. I won't argue that it might have helped to check before buying, but who the hell checks ahead of time to see if a video game requires additional security features before playing? This is unique to FFXI and not at all a common practice to where you'd think to check first. You guys know how it is. You get a new game, first thing you want to do when you go home is play it. Not jump through extra hoops.

              Don't act like he doesn't have a right to be a bit annoyed by the whole thing. It actually is a huge pain in the ass and I can see where it would turn a new player off from the game before even getting into it.

                I'm confused about the having to pay more money to play the damn game part. I'm not sure from where he accumulates the additional fees.

                  Isn't this just the whole Mastercard Securecode thing (and whatever Visa's equal is)? If so the vast majority of banks support it in one way or another and if they don't I'd go in and talk to the banks about it. In fact a lot of people don't even know if their bank supports it as it is something you have to sign up for (easily done online). Here's the link to the Mastercard list of banks that support it, and all you have to do is click on your bank on this list and it will start the sign up process:
                  (Apparently I can't make links yet... so) Type Mastercard Secure Code (or visa equivalent) and use that site to search for your bank.

                  Hope that helps, sorry I don't know the Visa stuff

                    Yah, I use a mastercard and had to use the securecode thing when I changed my card information to update my expiration date. I didn't run into any problems at all.

                      How about players outside US... ?
                      I am in Singapore, I can't find the financial instituions stated in the website... =(
                      And this is my 1st time playing FFXI lol...
                      What a bad luck...

                      I can't even register my Card...
                      And it is ridiculous to change bank or apply another card...
