  • inflation deflation all in all the same percents.

So for anyone who wasn't playing this game prior to 2006, I'm pleased to say the in-game economy hasn't changed 1 bit.

for some of the hotter items... since back in the day I was an auction house hoe. who loved controlling every aspect of the market I can at least pop-up a FFXI economy view of the "Then" and "Now"

I always thought personally that gold sellers and underpricing like crazy was gonna be the downfall of a servers auction house.... instead I find that instead of their being 50 million gil in circulation everyday in 2005 to their now being 10 million gil in circulation everyday in 2010.. everything has dropped down almost 80% of it's worth since I've started playing but it's all worked out perfectly fine for the game itself.

    2005
Grain seed bag x12 went for 40k gil
now it goes for 10k gil in 2010.
    Astral ring in 2005 450-500k
    now it goes for 80-120k

this one is the funny one tho
    Leaping boots 2.5mil - 6 mil

    now they are 250k

My only wish is to now find my old ps2 and reactivate my Content ID from 2005 cause I would be 1 rich son of a *****

    lol
Just a history economics lesson for perhaps some of the newer players, future players; and returning players who see that everything lost it's price and don't quite realize that.....

10 stacks of grain seed could get you an astral ring back in the day, and 10 stacks of grain seed can still get you one today... we're just working in smaller increments.

This thread may be stating the obvious to some but i figured any returning players might be eager to know that their money making schemes from when they started back in the day still hold the same effect today.

      Thanks for the welcome.

Right now I am back just started on Takelli's server since he was the only one to toss me some information on the player base. Seems like it might become my home for now until I get cranky when my Galka mage hits 50 and I start getting ALT FEVER!...

It's a real disease believe me.

really now hold on lets see here.

Definition of Economics: the branch of social science that deals with the production and distribution and consumption of goods and services and their management.

Which all of that takes place within the game... The auction house acts as the main distributor for our In-game economy.

I didn't say real life economy but economy is economy... we make stuff in game farm stuff in game and sell it back and forth... so thats economics....

          Now lets see here.

History - A usually chronological record of events, as of the life or development of a people or institution, often including an explanation of or commentary on those events

And I am the one providing the commentary.

Next time you try to open your mouth make sure you know what your talking about.
Otherwise you might end up looking like an ass.

          From wikipedia:

A virtual economy (or sometimes synthetic economy) is an emergent economy existing in a virtual persistent world, usually exchanging virtual goods in the context of an Internet game. People enter these virtual economies for recreation and entertainment rather than necessity, which means that virtual economies lack the aspects of a real economy that are not considered to be "fun" (for instance, players in a virtual economy often do not need to buy food in order to survive, and usually do not have any biological needs at all). However, some people do interact with virtual economies for "real" economic benefit.

Argue with facts if you want but what I said pure and simply is a 5 year "History" of the" Economics" in FFXI.

The "History of the economics in FFXI" would be more like "here's what happened in 5 years", not "here's how it was, here's how it is".

What you did is simply a comparative analysis of a couple of items that were produced 5 years ago, and that are produced today. Economies are generally more complex, and thus require a more complex explanation than the "hey! prices!" you gave. They also are generally more than 3 completely unrelated items. What was the CAUSE of the change in prices? That's what SCIENCE deals with. You conveniently ignored that word when you wrote your defense.

For existing players, you're simply making us feel depressed when we realized how much we paid for certain items and see what their value is now, and for new players you are only informing them that it's just as difficult to get those said items, even though prices have dropped.

Lastly, you made absolutely no sense when you said...

My only wish is to now find my old ps2 and reactivate my Content ID from 2005 cause I would be 1 rich son of a *****
...immediately after telling everybody about how much prices have DROPPED.

Honestly, you did nothing in your initial post that could be considered close to what your intention may have been. You have no right to call someone an ass, even by inference.

Re: inflation deflation all in all the same percents.

If you don't understand why he'd be rich then and rich now still even with price drop, then you've missed an economic concept: Prices dropping is not same thing as the economy dropping--he would more or less have the same purchasing power, then and now.

              That, incidentally, was his point.

Best explanation ever? Nah. But, the intention to illustrate a point is there.

In my view, an economy is broken when there's
              1. Scarcity of goods that can't be fixed by price increase, and/or
              2. Widespread glut of supply that cannot be absorb by price decrease, and/or
              3. Economic actors are unable to enter or complete transactions for whatever the reasons on the large.

The actual prices of things in whatever denomination? Really only matters for savers and debtors since they have obligation and income locked in past values. (The debtors love inflation, the savers love deflation. Heh.)

              yet not a mote of dust is stirred;

leaving no trace in the water.

Same purchasing power only implies that he had a ton of assets in game before he left, thus, he quit when he was rich. Coming back would not change that, and thus basically means nothing within the scope of the post, which is about inflation/deflation.

If his in game assets were invested in high end gear or highly sought after items, than yes, KingofZeal is right. If his in game assets were Gil, then he surely would be rich in this deflated economy.

He didn't specify, so you are both kinda right lol.

Re: inflation deflation all in all the same percents.

The recent announsment of the server merge has whipped Kujata into a frenzy panic. This panic seems to be isolated to specific items. Just last night, virtually everyone who owned a Hagun was throwing them on the AH in record speed. On top of that, there were some people shouting to sell theirs for as low as 1.3 million. Some speculate that it was because of the lower price on Valefor (the server we're merging into). I did a quick check of my own and found out that their price was actually... more than ours. Arguably... people might just be fearing the market flood. Basic supply and demand... if there are more on the AH, the price will go down. To me though... it seems flawed. If we're merging... the # of Haguns on the AH will double... sure... but the population is also doubling.

I have no idea what's going on or why. It doesn't effectme seeing as I have no need for a Hagun. I was however, tempted to buy the one for 1.3 simply to hold it and turn a profit later. Alas... I'm not a risk-taker.

Despite my ignorance as to the cause of such panic... it was still amusing to watch people going price-crazy.

LOL, When I saw Leviathan was merging with Remora, I decided to check and see if there would be a problem with the items that I sell, but it should work out pretty well since those items sell at about the same rate and a slightly higher price there.
